Aaron McCargo Jr. Started On the Easy-Bake

Nothing like a delicious molten choco cake cooked over 100 watts of pure lightbulb!

Check out this nugget of info, taken off of Aaron "Big Daddy" McCargo Jr.'s Food Network bio page:

"Aaron's passion for cooking was sparked at the age of four when he started baking cakes in his sister's Easy Bake Oven."

I think that's cute. I hope he uses one in the first episode of his show this Sunday.

See, Hasbro? Even big daddies use Easy-Bakes. It's time to remove that "a girl’s first real baking experience" line from your marketing copy after 45 freakin' years.

  1. That's funny because that ridiculous broccoli/beef pizza (made the RR challenge) that Bob loved so much looked like something made in an Easy-Bake Oven.

  2. I refuse to buy one for either my son OR my daughter because of that frickin line.

The prefer to cook with me on the real thing anyway.

  3. I'm thoroughly jealous--I never had an E-Z Bake oven.

  4. I never wanted an easy bake oven, but I did always want a Snoopy snow cone maker...I never got one!

  6. Easy Bake Oven? Hmmm. I recall seeing Gale Gand use an Easy Bake on a very early FN show and her desserts looked wonderful - of course, she is a remarkable baker. Who knows - may catch on.

  7. I think that's cute too...and if the Easy Bake oven folks hear about it, it also may be lucrative. I had an Easy bake oven, but can't say that I was impressed with the results...but I wasn't Gale Gand!

He comes up with stuff and points stuff out that the rest of us either dont see or are too lazy to research but still want to know the gossip!!! Move on to another blog if you dont want the fun silly stuff!

  13. an interview with Big Daddy on another blog..... Why was I so shocked to learn about his Italian background and Catholic upbringing??
    OMG
    here it is:
How has your family’s food habits influenced what you want to present in your new show?

“We’re all about big portions. My mother always was into flavoring food a lot and that is what I plan to present to the audience in Big Daddy’s House.”

What was your original impetus to send in an audition tape for Next Food Network Star?

“I actually never sent anything in. My wife had my hands tied. She sent in my audition tape.”

When during the competition did you start to think that you could actually win?

“I walked in thinking I had a chance to win. Week to week they took me on a rollercoaster ride but I never gave up believing in my chance of winning.”

Will your show be based on one theme or style of cooking? Or will you open the door to other options say, different regions?

“My food presented on the show is going to be wide open in style and presentation. My main goal is teaching people to use what they have at home in preparing their meals.”

Can you tell us about your favourite family food tradition?

“My favourite family food tradition had to be fish on Fridays. And because of my Italian background with a Roman Catholic upbringing, I would always prepare pasta on Wednesdays. So on Fridays I started to combine the two into a unique dish to serve to my family.”

How would you describe the style of your food?

It’s about food that’s flavorful and food that comes from the soul.

  15. Well, my sister let me bake one time with her Easy Bake oven. And Jessica, most of the stuff that came out of the oven had an odd taste. Perhaps, the Easy Bakes they make now are better than the ones over 35 years ago. I agree with Jacob. Boys can bake on the oven, too. I know a few women who would love for their husbands to be able to bake. Start'em young!

  16. This sort of has FN written all over it, I think FN needs a show ala Robot chicken where you have action figure's doing the cooking

Now what can we call it????

  17. Iron Chef Captain America? (Jeffery Steingarten would NOT be allowed to judge...that hosebag!)
    Roadkill Tasted with GI Joe?
    Everyday Amazon with Wonder Woman?
30 Second Meals with Flash Gordon?

  19. Easy-Bake Oven food probly tastes odd cause of the plastic and un-even heating with the lighbulbs and pre-made mix.Rember, its a frickin TOY!!!

It would of been cuter if it was Duff who started out with an Easy Bake!!

Its true,it is kind of,um,biased that Hasbro says girls first baking expereience. Are they afraid that they might turn boys gay if they market it twords boys in this homophopic nation of ours??It may be helthy to encourage children to bake with and Easy Bake just for the sake of a some-what simple baking tool and to encourage kids to make something and do something productive, but,eh.

  22. LOVE Aaron.
He obviously loved cooking at a young age, which led him to become NFNS.

AND, I loved the easy bake oven!

  23. How come I'm not surprised. The crap continues. After the RR food processor bit the dust they needed another piece of junk.

  24. ha ha! Yes!! That is sooo Aaron!! This is one of the reasons so many people love Aaron!! :)

  25. Off topic, but I know Aaron mentioned his son running away during the season and he was hoping the show would bring him back. I watched his new show yesterday and notices the pictures of said son were just photographs where as the others were from FN cameras. What is the update with that? Has the son returned?

In her vlog, Susie Fogelson said Aaron's son returned home, so things appear to be all right now.
