Kelsey's a Winner Too

Kelsey Nixon may not have won The Next Food Network Star, but she did pull in 37% of the fan favorite vote—good enough to make her the fans' favorite... or the favorite of those fans who actually took the time to vote. Either way, woo hoo Kelsey!

You'll also remember that Kelsey's Macadamia Crusted Tilapia with White Chocolate Beurre Blanc was placed on the Red Lobster "Today's Fresh Fish" menu. Even though I never made it in to sample this chocolatey fish, evidently thousands of other people did.

In just the first week on the menu, more than 680 Red Lobster restaurants collectively sold 31,820 of 'em!

Did anyone try it? MarketWatch claims that the dish is "receiving rave reviews from food writers, bloggers and guests alike." Where are all these rave reviews?

I know I mentioned I'd stop talking about NFNS, but they are the only Food Network peeps having stories written about them right now. I'll let them have their moment in the spotlight a bit longer. Plus, I have some thoughts on some recent interviews Kelsey's done where she reinfornces her unwavering desire to cook on television.

  1. Is it still available at RL? I guess I'd try it if I happened to be scarfing down Cheddar Bay Biscuits in the vicinity...

  5. Do food writers actually go to Red Lobster? Though stranger things have happened- I live in NYC, home to 15,000 restaurants, and people actually wait on line to get in to the Red Lobster. Weird.

  10. Kelsey looks like a nice person, but honestly...did anyone else think of her as basically a Rachel Ray Jr.? "Fast, fun, and affordable cooking"? Right. Like we haven't heard that one before.

  11. Yeah for Kelsey! Last month I actually went to RL to try this dish and was not disappointed. It was delicious!

I hated to see Kelsey kicked off the show. I hope we see her cooking on television soon.

  12. I went to RL and had this. The dish was good, although REALLY sweet, and mine had way too much of the beurre blanc. Others did not though. I was the first one to try it at the store, and the chef came out to ask me what i thought. It was very good, just a little less next time! mmm Cheddar bay biscuits. What is Kelsey doing now?

  15. If they sold that many and it was new on the menu - why in the heck would they not keep it on? They could start a new promo - Tilapia Fest - or as we call it here Crappie Fest!

  16. I tried it, it wasn't that good

  17. RL is so not a place for a true seafood lover. Everything comes out floating in butter to disguise the bland, iodine injected, farm-raised seafood they serve. You can cook the same thing at home with fresher, quality ingredients. It doesn't take an expert chef to cook shrimp scampi or grill fish. I am appalled that people wait in line for restaurant chains.
