I love Alex's laid-back, casual delivery style. Dare I say it reminds me of a certain East Hamptons, former specialty foods store owner? A bit.
I also love how natural Alex is when she speaks to the camera and her students. You can definitely tell the show isn't scripted word-for-word (or if it is, she's a great actress). I've been turned off by some of the scripted shows lately (*cough* Aida *cough* *cough*), so it's refreshing to see someone who's knowledgeable about what she's talking about, who doesn't come across as wooden or forced.
And the food has looked great, which is, you know, important and stuff.
What do you think of the show? Hate the timeslot (Saturdays at 9:30am)?
I have caught a couple of episodes. Not digging her or the show. If they keep throwing stuff at the wall, maybe something will stick.
ReplyDeleteUgh, HAYYYYYTE the time slot! It's like Food Network doesn't even care about it's gay fan base or something... what gay gets up before noon on a Saturday?!
ReplyDeleteShame on Tuschelman!
I love this show. I have three kids so getting the tv on Saturday morning is a chore but I keep finding myself sending my kids out to play while The Cooking Loft is on. Alex has a real knack for being descriptive while not being over the top. She knows oodles of stuff about food but isn't condescending about it. She is amazing the way she incorporates her students and her viewing audience into the show. I feel like I am the fifth student. I think I could be friends with Alex if she weren't famous.
ReplyDeleteI hope FN doesn't let this one get away. Alex G is fabu!
I also love the show. Her peach cobbler was awesome and I'm going to try the mac and cheese next. I also wished they showed these shows more. I also like Grill It with Bobby Flay and that time slot sucks as well. Why can't they take away RR's 6 or 6:30 time slot and put on a different show every weeknight in it's place? We don't need to see 30MM back to back and it would give exposure to others that we can't always see on the weekend. That's my wish.
ReplyDeleteI miss Jamie in this time slot. If THAT wasn't early enough, they're going to bring him back at 7:30 am on Saturdays in October!! WTF??! I'd rather see him, AND Cooking Loft at a different time.... like LATER in the day.
ReplyDeleteLOVE ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe incessant commercials for this show were really turning me off but I did tune in for this Saturday's show and I really liked it. I wasn't expecting to but Alex seems very down to earth. That mac and cheese looked heavenly!
ReplyDeleteFrom the early commercials I didn't think I was going to like it either, but I love it. Alex has a really nice way about her--I thought she was going to be bitchy like the early FTV show--Cookwise--on a few years ago, but she's not.
ReplyDeleteoooo....Aida is bad!!! Can't watch her at all.
ReplyDeleteI like Alex too.
I wish they had more cooking shows on Saturday afternoon. The cake competitions get really old.
The cake competitions once in a while wouldn't be bad, but they keep playing the same ones over and over and over--and I think if I see "Memphis in May" one more time I may "pull my own pork"!!
ReplyDeleteI really like this show and I just made the pasta with yellow tomato sauce. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI hate FN on Saturday afternoons. The morning Rocks. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI want to be friends with Alex. It's my goal.
ReplyDeleteI love her show but wish it was in a different time slot.
ReplyDeleteI just CAN'T STAND to watch Aida. The stupid scripted style is annoying, and when she goes off-script she usually says something stupid. AIDA NEEDS TO BE CANCELED.
FN has spent soooo much money pushing Aida and Sunny at us and they both stink. Someone at FN needs to be fired.
i caught a few minutes of it and LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteLove the show - hate the time slot. Would it kill FN to have ONE night a week with cooking shows - they could show new episodes of a variety of shows during primetime, then rerun them on the weekend. Saturday is so hard with football, kids activities, etc.
ReplyDeleteWas really looking forward to this show and have not been disappointed! And honestly, that's a bit of a "first" for me in terms of the Food Network for the past few years. I do wish, though, as others here have stated, that it has a better time slot.
ReplyDeleteGet a DVR, LOL. Then time doesn't matter. BTW dead people have no concept of time (sixth sense) so us with DVRs are dead. I get to the "Cooking Loft" around noon on Sat, but it really needs to be watched a little earlier in the day.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Aida on DVR is great, you can FF through the punk she has on with her as well as the commercials.
But what do I know I like Guy Fieri and Michael Symon
I agree with Gen from an earlier post. I, too, feel like a 5th student in the class standing inbetween Iffy and the one guy. Has anyone made the caramelized tomatoes yet? I've been meaning too but haven't yet. I think the time slot is ok. I don't like to sleep the day away and by time 1pm rolls around not even Ina could keep me home. Unless she came to my home. With Rach in tow. I'd stay home for that.
ReplyDeletehate the time slot for sure
ReplyDeletei am NEVER up early enough to see it
so i have not which sucks.
typical FN Bullshit programming as usual.
I caught the show this Saturday and she seemed much more relaxed than her students and I agree that she seems comfortable in front of the camera.
ReplyDeleteI love her! And she's also one of my favorite ICA judges when she's on too, she knows what she's talking about!
ReplyDeleteI have DVR but yes, the time slot suggests the network doesn't give a crap.
People!!!! For crying out loud- GET A DVR and stop complaining about the time slot! Sheesh!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Cooking Loft!! I think I've said this before, but it reminds me a lot of Donna Dooher (sp??) and her Cookworks show that used to be on. It was a really good teaching show and I feel that Chef Alex is accomplishing that, as well.
I do NOT like Aida's show. She seems very kind and I am sure that we would get along well in real life... but the show.... oh dear... it's just, well... dumb. Gee, I hate to use that word, but I can't think of another to describe it! I actually get EMBARRASSED while watching it!!!

Refuse to watch until Jamie Oliver comes back
ReplyDeleteI agree about Aida and Sunny. Do not care for either show. Add rescue chef to that. I miss my Tyler doing 911.
ReplyDeleteI have caught her shows and Alex is absolutely fantastic as a host. She's knowlegeable, relaxed and very well-spoken. FN needs to get with it and reduce rr's exposure. For crying out loud, she's everywhere and her voice is getting raspier by the day. I agree with a lot of the comments about Aida. I'm sure she's a nice person, but just not the right person to put in front of a camera.
ReplyDelete*Love Alex's show, can't wait to make the mac and cheese.
ReplyDelete*Cannot stand Iada and Sunny, come on FN get a clue.
*Love Jamie Oliver and miss his show very much.
*Too many contest shows on Saturday and too many repeats weeknights in prime time.
*Love Ina.
*RR gets on my last nerve.
Why doesn't the FN big wigs realize that we cannot stand those scripted, unbelievably annoying 'stars' on the network.
Just show us some of these great shows: Cooking Loft, Ina, Jamie Oliver, Bobby Flay shows, etc. on the week day prime time slots rather than showing several repeat episodes of RR and AB (love AB, but surely we have something more recent than a 2003 Good Eats). Then on Saturday re-run the good shows from the week days and include some of those other shows you are trying out. Some of us can't watch one time or the other and that way no one misses out.
I don't have the machinery or the time to record everything I want to watch.

I LOVE this show. I don't like the time slot so I watch it on Food Network OnDemand.
ReplyDeleteAlex is a GREAT instructor and I also feel like the fifth student. I hope FN renews this show. I am SO TIRED of Rachael Ray. Sunny and Aida need to leave, also.
This is the best new show on FN in a long time. Her food looks delicious, she doesn't dumb down her cooking like so many FN shows do, and these are recipes I really want to try.
ReplyDeleteI also miss Jamie Oliver.
As for Aida, Sunny, the Neely's...I find them unwatchable. And that new Guy Fieri show makes me feel like Kramer when he hears Mary Hart's voice...
seizures, anyone?
Awesome show. Good concept and easy to watch. Hope they don't milk it to hell and back like most of their shows.
ReplyDeleteNeely's Sunny, Aida, such a waste of time. Sunny is just brutal, The Neely's have no business being on TV, although Aida looks like she could be saved.
Fee-Etti is growing on me when he does DDD's, because his interaction with real food people is genuine and unscripted and he let's the subject matter be the star.On the other stuff, he is too over the top. Calm down surfer dude.
I. LOVE. This. Show.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
Alex needs a serious bikini wax.She has mature coniferous forest down there.
ReplyDeleteGreat show. Now that it is on Monday are they making new episodes?
ReplyDeleteBTW. Made her Thanksgiving Turkey and the family loved it!
