Giada Joins Oxfam as Ambassador for the Hungry

Did anyone know that today is World Food Day? I didn't.

I was happy to read that Giada De Laurentiis has begun work with the relief agency Oxfam International as an Ambassador. She'll be focusing her efforts on fighting poverty and hunger.

"To a billion people around the world surviving on just a dollar a day, the question 'what are we going to eat tonight' becomes more about life and death, than about recipes," says Giada.

Giada's already raising awareness for the organziation. Every book sold on her recent book tour had an insert on rising food costs and the hunger crisis, according to Oxfam.

Good job, G!

Read more about Giada's involvement and see what you can do.

  2. Good for Giada! Love her!

  3. Don't you need to graduate from a accredited culinary institution in order to be referred to as a chef ?

I'd love to hear what chefs have to say.

  7. that quote from her made me shiver a little. every time I have to get creative and "rob Peter to pay Paul" and apply everywhere because my 40 hr a week job isn't enough, along comes the humbling reality that somewhere, someone has it MUCH much worse.

Good for Giada! What an angel.

  8. Those chefs you're talking about would kill for Giada's gig and everyone elses gig on FN for that matter.

  9. Many chefs would kill for her gig yes, but the point remains, don't you need to graduate from a accredited facility to use the term chef ?

Some may say she got to where she is because she wants everyone to believe she is a chef, and this self designation has helped her somewhat. I think this sort of insults chefs who toil away at school for a few years , busting their onions to pass the course and along comes Glamor Girl putting chef down on her resume.

I guess real chefs don't have time to read these blogs, as they are out earning and scraping by, so maybe that's why chefs haven't piped up.

  10. Don't you people wish you could be in her place!!!!! Good Luck Giada!!! Met her she is a NICE LADY. You people who find fault in her all the time (YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HER). Regarding all chefs they picked this profession and I'm sure they knew what they were getting into.

  11. Tom Colicchio didn't go to culinary school and either did Ina Garten but I consider them both chefs in my book.

  12. And just because you didn't go to school doesn't mean you didn't work hard to get where you are. Just sayin'....LOL.

  13. Didn't Giada attend Le Cordon Bleu?

  14. Well, she CAN get on my nerves but what a pretty picture of her.

  15. http://giadadelaurentiis.ytmnd.com/

The only thing I find annoying about her is the way she over-enunciates every word. She knows her stuff, though.

  16. Who cares if she is a chef or not if she is helping starving people around the world?

  17. Oxfam spends approximately 92% of every dollar on administration, overhead and costly advertising campaigns. You give em fifty bucks you think will buy wheat and beans and a fraction of that goes into action.

Oh Giada is a real saint isn't she?

  18. Great now she's going to bitch at hungry children. Do they really need to hear her talk about how wonderful she is.

  19. Me don’t like Princess Giada. She bad…bad woman! She only help children to assuage her capacious ego. No beneficence there ! Royght…and straight away ! She no Alain Ducasse, so I mock her (anonymously) every chance I get. We abhor Scions where me come from. …Umm, oops, I guess not.

  20. Good Grief. Those of you who try to put Giada down have to dig really really hard to find fault.
I've watched her and she's normal, beautiful and well mannered. I think she's just great!

  21. Yeah she's normal, beautiful and well mannered but that equals BORING.

  22. The real Giada showed up when she was judging on the NFNS.

All the eye rolling and facial expressions that were done to bring th efocus back to her.

Take your ego you bitch and go back to Italy.

    You look inbred.

  23. She was a bitch on the last 2 NFNS shows. I mean she needs to look back at her first shows. I watched but she is much better now.

  24. Lets not forget her wonderful appearance on Iron Chef. Giada the self titled chef need a real chef to do all the work. Then threw a tantrum because 'she' didn't win.

    Skillful and classy as always.

  25. I can't wait to read your review about Giada new show!

  26. I think anyone who works for charity should be praised. I bet she could feed half the world with all the food she must have stashed in that giant head of hers, because she obviously doesn't eat all the stuff she makes or she'd look like Ina. Can you say pancetta? Prosciutto? I think her head is analogous to a camel's hump.

  27. That's really not fair to the camel.
