It's Election Day! Which Food Net Stars Donated?

It's Tuesday, November 4, so if you live in the United States you know it's election day. Get out and vote if you haven't done so already! The line really isn't that long... at least not as long as the line to exit the country will be if McCain gets elected. Ha!

And while I know some of you come here with the idea that a blog about Food Network would be the last place you'd find people arguing about politics, politics have -- like it or not -- entered into virtually every facet of our lives, including Food Network.

Rachael Ray had the presidential candidates on her talkshow, Michelle Obama paid a visit to Paula Deen's primetime show Paula's Party, and Giada De Laurentiis is telling us how to throw an election night party on Food Network's Website.

Some Food Network stars didn't feature politicians on their shows, but that doesn't mean they weren't politically involved.

Let's take a look at recent and past donations:

- Rachael Ray gave $2,300 to the Hillary Clinton campaign (her husband John gave the same amount to Hill, too.)

- Sandra Lee, CEO of Semi-Homemade gave $2,300 to the Hillary Clinton campaign and $2,000 to John Kerry.

- Ina Garten gave $2,000 to John Kerry.

- Mario Batali gave $1,000 to John Edwards.

- Martha Stewart gave $4,600 to Hillary Clinton.

- I can't find anything on Giada, but her grand-daddy Dino De Laurentiis gave $2,000 to George W. in 2004.

Did anyone donate to one of the presidential candidates actually on the ballot today? Yes!

Ace of Cakes' Mary Alice gave $714 to Barack Obama! Go MALICE!

  1. Yay! Go MALICE!

"I can't find anything on Giada, but her grand-daddy Dino De Laurentiis gave $2,000 to George W. in 2004."
I had a laugh; her family DOES have lots and lots of mulah--they're probably close friends.

  2. Rachael's husband gave $2300 too? Doesn't that mean Rach gave $4600 to Hillary...? Isn't John's money his wifes money??? Oh wait he must be on her Rach Vacation and RR show payroll now- since is seems to always be in front of the camera... Get a real Job John- Geez...

  3. Why shouldn't John live off his incredibly wealthy wife? Would you say the same if the roles were reversed?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I could have lived happily forever not knowing that Ina gave money to John Kerry. Thanks a lot, Jacob.

I'm still waiting for all the people who were going to leave the country when Bush got elected to ship out.

  5. Plese people I know election day is huge- but I go to this blog for the foodie stuff. Can we get back to that- please.

  6. Bobby Deen donated $500 to the McCain campaign!

Why do I find that a little surprising given that Georgia has leaned toward the GOP in recent elections?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think Carrie Underwood summed it up pretty good. Celebrities should just STFU and not endorse or shill for any politician.

And I think most FN "celebrities" know this and have kept a low profile.

I am surprised Bobby Deen even knows the difference between the two parties.Does he ?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why should you put who the stars voted for? Shouldnt Americans make their own decision and not make it based on stars? I think this is a fullish post and you shouldve just left it at your first comment.

  9. I'm not surprised that Brotha Bobby donated to the McCain campaign . The rich want to hold on to their wealth and the Republicans are the party of the rich .

    ReplyDelete
  10. i bet you the grand dame of butter doesn't know bobby did that! she'll skin his hide!

  11. I bet Big Mama Paula is a Republican ... She doesn't want the Democrats taxing all those millions of hers !

    ReplyDelete
  12. Paula is a HUGE Democrat. She has made no secrets of that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. No...She's a Republican .

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, that would explain her love of Jimmy Carter and Michelle Obama. Most Republicans work desperately to get them on their shows.

    ReplyDelete
  15. $714 is an odd number for a political contribution isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Is that why she was talking up Sarah Palin at one of her live shows and the audience booed at her ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow,Aunt Sandy is a democrat???Go Sandra Lee!!!!!

Im not surprised that Giada would be a republican,if she takes after her wealthy, famous popular grand dad........

    ReplyDelete
  18. If Republicans are the party of the rich, why are all these rich FN stars contributing to democrats?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Trust me ... Anyone as greedy and money-grubbing as Paula Deen wouldn't approve of the LARGE amount of tax she will have to pay under President Obama's administration... Not to mention President Obama's stance on Smithfield , worker's rights , environmental pollution by Smithfield and unionization ... All of which Miss Paula just can't be bothered with...Y'ALL know it " ain't her agenda " !!! Just MONEY Y'ALL...

  21. Yay Mary Alice! One more reason to love you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jacob you are such a fag.

    ReplyDelete
  23. WHY is it being "greedy" if she wants to keep the money SHE earned????

    ReplyDelete
  24. I read your post regularly. I have to tell you though, that as I read this, we are seriously considering our options. To live in a country where laziness is rewarded and hard worked is punished, is not a life we want to live. People should do some reading about socialism and how close we could be to a government controlled society in the next 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Medicare and Medicaid...You Repubs take advantage of these " socialist " programs....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon 8:47, Paula Deen is described as being greedy because she will do anything absolutely anything for a buck .

    ReplyDelete
  27. It is called capitalism.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jesus Jacob, you try to have a nice fun and sassy blog and you bring out the killjoy wingnuts (all ANON, natch). Sorry about that - they certainly can suck the air out of the room. This fag thinks you rock - keep doing your thang, baby! I am looking forward to another beautiful day in Chicago...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anon.10:26...Capitalism at it's stereotypical WORST !

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mary Alice's displays of her politics on the show made me lose a LOT of respect for the woman ... and for Food Network for allowing her to wear those t-shirts ...

Hey Mary Alice - Just wait til your boy brings back the Fairness Doctrine ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was at Iggie's pizza last night (wrote about it too - good pizza, okay salad) with some friends. I swore I saw Mary Alice outside with a friend, then come in and order a pizza, and then leave with her friend. The place was all afrenzy with Obamamania, which is why I mention it. I don't think anybody bothered her, which is good.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wish you would leave politics off of this blog, Jacob. Many of us are looking for an escape from hearing about it!

    ReplyDelete
  33. John has his own money. Obviously not as much as his wife but enough. Remember that he is a lawyer...or was a lawyer. Not surprised that Giada's family is a republican. But remember, she doesn't make more than 1 million last year so she isn't really rich. Sorry Giada, I know you really want to be in the rich/super rich like Ina and Rachael but it's not going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I, too, wish celebs would STFU about who they support! It only makes people lose interest in them. I have no respect for celebs who show no respect for whatever administration is in the White house.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I so agree with Anon 617pm. What is the percentage of high school or college grads amoung celebs any way. I remember a time when who you were voting for, or donated money to, was private. I wish it was still that way. I'm tired of this whole election.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Just because you are a lawyer doesn't mean you have money. You need to practice and come on Rachael money does not compare.

And I think Giada is doing OK.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Giada IS doing ok. She's got family money if she doesn't have enough of her own. I'd be happy!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think Mr Rachael Ray has a 'Lawyer' Job- have you seen how he looks lately? He looks like a homeless guy - whenever I have seen his name in print he is usually listed as Rachael Ray's husband or 'Singer' - no where have they ever said lawyer--- how about Rachael Ray's paid Boy Toy...? She deserves better and for God sakes a classier act... shave and shower John!! Your wive is A STUNNING BEAUTY and you... well you are just embarassing!
    Sorry Rach, I love ya!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You can poke fun at RR and criticize her etc.. but I honestly think her choice of husband is her worst mistake.

Maybe he was disbarred as lawyer. if he was lawyer in the first place.

Every time I see his "eyebrow" appearing on his wife's shows, he adds absolutely zilch to the story; kind of like a non speaking extra, except he open his yap once in while.

Maybe Rachel will kick him out an make him truly homeless.

  41. Here Here... Get rid of the loser - I mean the guy is having a mid life crisis at Rachael's bank account expense with this indee band- for gosh sakes... Rach - You can do way BETTER -- although she will be paying for him the rest of her life... sorta like having a monkey on her back...

    ReplyDelete
  42. NO Shit anon 7:14- Poor Rach- I hope she has a freakin' pre-nup... and I agree he looks like a drug addict and not very healthy lately- kind of grey in color- scary!

  43. What is it judge not be you judged, oh wait that is Christianity and we now are Islamic ? or what. Our great leader walked out on his religion after 20 years or did he just pretend to be what ever he claimed the first time? How can you be African if you never been to Africa, and how can you be black if your only half black, I wish just once you people would realize HE IS AMERICAN and nothing else. My ancestor came from many places but that was them not me, I am American. As far as who gave what to who, in the end will it heat your oven, fire your stove, cook your burner, sorry it makes no difference 4 years from now we get to go all through this stuff again, only then will we know if it was voted right or we totally screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. But until then you can be a good and patriotic American and respectfully support your President - Elect .

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, just the way Democrats and liberals respectfully supported President Bush for 8 years. Let's return the favor.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They did a wonderfully supportive job considering that Bush is the most unpopular U.S. President in American history . Some die hard Obama haters won't even give this brilliant man a chance ... I thin that what it all boils down to is racist attitude on the part of some... They haven't even given the man a chance . The American public had to give a moron guided by a sociopathic Dick Cheney 8 years of their lives ...

    ReplyDelete
  47. If I did not stand up for what I believe, that would make me UN-AMERICAN, if I followed a leader I do not believe in, that would make me UN-AMERICAN, if I do not question the leaders of our country, that would make me UN-AMERICAN, if I follow blindly and do not speak up than I am UN-AMERICAN, I really could care less what race or color the Pres elect is, but do not claim to be what you are not, as for having respect that has to be earned, and so far I have seen nothing to impress me, And as far as McCain goes goes he will not follow blindly, has he followed Bush ? So Anony 8:47 I am waiting to see if They deserve or earn my support. As for Bush it has been a long 8 years and I am glad it is over.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't know ... according to Rethuglican philosophy , if you criticize the government or the President you're " UNAMERICAN "..... As far as respecting the new President-Elect Obama , if you choose not to that is your choice ... But , I will because I was brought up well ... Apparently , you were not .

    ReplyDelete
  49. If someone does not respect the man who was elected to be President of United States of America , they should at least respect the office of the President ...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Verbally bash Rachael's husband all you want. I bet he has a better command of the English language than most of you.

IMO if it wasn't for Di nicola, I doubt very much if Rachael ever would have been on television.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Never said I did not respect the office, but the man that holds it. Anbodies upbringing is just a matter of judgement and for you to critise mine just shows me your were not brought up to respect other peoples opinions, and as that goes so does the person.

    ReplyDelete
  52. No Anon 10:25 ... Not respecting other differing opinions is the forte of the Republican right wing ... If you don't agree with them your "un-American " ...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous 8:38: I totally agree with you!!!!! Our President Elect is NOT our first BLACK President, because he isn't BLACK. Mom-White, Grandparents-White. Father-Black who left him and married 4 more times. He didn't know him. So I guess he dis-owned his Mom and Grandparents (who are white). They raised him, sent him to college, etc. He is bi-racial!!!!!!! And this fine. But everyone lets get it straight!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hey stupid ... Obama never " dis-owned " his mother or his grandparents ... He was very close to them ... GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous 1:04: You need to read the book he wrote about his life and family. I read it and it explains why he changed his name, etc. Oh I guess you are personal friends with him and his family to know this information. HA!

    ReplyDelete
  56. No...You are just a right wing Obama hating racist...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just heard on the news that Michelle's Mother is moving in with them!!!!!! Here we go. Don't know of any President that had their other family member's moving in with them. Oh my.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Harry Truman did...Maybe Michelle's mother is a secret Muslim terrorist ! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEE ! Get ready Obama hating Rethuglicans ! Stir up more hate and fear .... You better watch that mother ! She might try to bake cookies for her grandchildren ! Oh the horror ! Oh the humanity ! God save us !

  59. Did anyone see the Bill Ayer's interview on GMA today. In his book he said that our New President Elect is a family friend and he doesn't regret bombing anything/anyone!!!!! God Bless America!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. That is SUCH a distortion of what Bill Ayers said ... This is what the " BOOGEYAN BILL AYERS " REALLY said ... Listen to this clip from GMA and get the truth !

    http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Politics/story?id=6251086&page=1

    ReplyDelete
  61. Better watch FOX NEWS there is really something going on with this Bill Ayers and our President Elect. What is wrong with you people this man BOMBED places to kill people. The FBI is all over this man and his wife. Chris from GMA was on Fox News talking about the interview and nothing was taken out of context. Like I said just sit back and wait.

    ReplyDelete
  62. If you believe Fox News you're a right-wing racist wing nut...Get over it...Don't be like Sarah Palin...Accept the fact that Barack Obama won the election...Move on ...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous 9:23 , you are a hate monger . People like you inspire incidents like this ... :

  64. I can't believe that Duff let Mary Alice wear a "Barack the Vote" T-shirt on a show aired the week before the election. My respect for them plummeted. And history, I can now say, has not proved me wrong.
