The Face of a Paula Deen Protester
Keep your eye on that one.
I've actually avoided writing about the Paula Deen protesting that's been going on as of late. (Read this article's sidebar if you don't know why she's being protested). I don't really know both sides of the story, so I'll refrain from getting into an argument over whether a spokesperson is responsible for the way a company treats its workers.
Paula hasn't commented on the fiasco-- doesn't really like to bring up downer subjects, you know.
Paula was protested here in D.C., but it sounded like their main goal was just to see Paula in person, from the way it was described in the press.
I don't know how good of a job these protesters are doing in conveying their message, but it sure doesn't look like these ladies are convinced.

There seems to be enough literature out there that suggests that the workers at Smithfield were horribly abused and many incidences of racism occured. Too bad she didn't do a little research before signing on with Smithfield. If I were her, I would step away.
I think most of that literature is also slanted & one-sided. Smithfield has given many minorities and those of little or no education, employment & benefits but it is still factory work. I think some workers had unrealistic expectations of their employer and of their job. I don't doubt instances of racism and abuse occurred, it does in many if not most work places.
I agree with Sassy....almost everything you read out there is going to be biased one way or the other. We will probably never know the truth.
What is "unrealistic?" Demanding fair treatment from your employer, even if you are a "factory worker" as Sassy snidely points out?
