Party at Dave's!

I hope you all purchased your tickets, because this Wednesday Dave Lieberman is hosting a party in his new Hollywood Hills home... and it's for a good cause!

Dave, along with Food & Wine magazine, is hosting a special, $100/ticket Green Party. The proceeds will benefit Grow For Good, Food & Wine's national initiative dedicated to supporting local farms and encouraging sustainable agriculture.

Only 7-9 pm, though? I bet Dave wouldn't mind hosting a little after-hours if the mood strikes. Hope and pray, people.

I've read about Dave's newfound interest in political food issues such as these and I think it's great he's helping out. I guess you have a little bit more time on your hands to do these kind of events when you're only worrying about hosting an online mayonnaise show.

I kid, I kid.

How's your Monday going, peeps? I am bored with the excessive heat and still somewhat bored with the new Food Network schedule. I want my Ina on at the same time every Saturday (and so does she)! I don't care if it's the same episode of her making asian salmon or pecan bars for the millionth time. Gotta get it in.

I'm finally adapting to Alton's new time slot--I think it was past time to move Emeril off the anchor slot but I still kind of feel bad for how he's basically been shoved in a dark corner of late. Whatever I think of the dude's screen presence, he did make the network a household name...

Other than that, kinda bored with the schedule now too. the new Feasting on Asphalt isn't up to the same level as last year, certainly.

Their new schedule kind of bores me too. It sometimes feels like Dejavu...Giada, Rachel, Giada, Rachel, Giada, Rachel (throw in a little Ina, Paula, Michael and Robin and there you go).

I wish there were more shows on different kind of cuisines or cooking styles. I remember a few years ago when I started watching Food Network you could catch shows like "Low Carb and Lovin' It!" by that formerly fat chef and his formerly fat family, and some other healthy food cooking show by someone named Juan Carlos Cruz(sp?). I know they have Ellie - but what is she on, once a week? Otherwise I have to find her online, that isn't right! I love me some Paula and Ina, but I want to learn to cook healthier. I don't want a stick of butter, a ton of "EVOO", and a gallon of salt in everything. I'd love some more healthy cooking shows. Anyone else feel me?

P.S. - Why wasn't I invited to Dave's house party? Okay, I'm 3,000 miles away, but I still want to go. Yum! (and I'm not just talking about the food, hahaha! ;)

FN has gotten so booooring. Who wants to watch the same shows over and over again - for a food channel it's so bland and tastless. The network needs to concentrate on mixing things up (show wise) and become more consistent with the program's slots. I don't know when to watch who but I do know I'm going to pretty much catch Gialda and Rachel *yawn* about anytime throughout the day.

By the way, I was wondering if Italy owns FN. Enough of the 50,000 recipes of how to make pasta. There are other countries for heaven's sake.

Food Network has taken a turn for the tiresome - and I too feel Emeril's chagrin at being sidelined - his 7PM (EST) show isn't even repeated for us late nighters anymore (I work a 2nd shift - I mean I can always TiVO the poor guy). But - on a refreshing note - PBS, at least in South Florida (WLRN - channel 79 on Atlantic Broadband) has really got some good late night cooking shows starting at midnight with Lidia Bastianich, Gourmet Magazine's for Foodies, some Mark Bittman, some Todd English (every bit the hottie anyone on FN is or was - sorry Dave Lieberdrunk) and my favorite over Ingrid - Daisy Martinez - way more down to earth and no stupid Bewitched snapping ya' fingers in ma' face and making everyone into a statue - yawn. America's Test Kitchen and Barbeque U with Steve Reichlin are also good reasons to make the switch to PBS - and OH - did I mention - NO COMMERCIALS (yes, no stupid Cavemen, no Geico gekko with that cockney twang, no call 1800 Mattres (save the s for stupidity)) - it's really been refreshing. I'm basically done with Food Network. After years of dedicated viewing, it's degenerated now to the point where I'd rather parboil my fingers than watch endless episodes of Rachel or Giada.

Gone are the days of Two Hot Tamales and Two Fat Ladies. Jamie Oliver came and went. Ready, Set, Cook mutated into a (poor) imitation of the inimitable Japanese Iron Chef. Sandra Pinckney is no longer around to fill us in on great places for great food. David Rosengarten hasn't been seen for years. Back then, even Emeril was tolerable before he became a parody of himself.

Then there's Paula Deen. I used to love that woman to death. I felt she was a breath of fresh air when she first appeared. But alas, now even she's overexposed and overgrown far from her roots of country cooking.

Never liked Aunt Sandie. Never like Robin Miller. Can't stomach Rachel Ray. I abhor Guy "Fiedi." Even Alton Brown has lost his questionable charm. But hey, I don't have to like every show.

Problem is now, I don't like any of them.

'Cept for Nigella, and she's hardly on the network at all. And Ina, but she's lost in rerun hell.

I think at this point the best thing for me to do is buy the season DVDs of the shows I like and just watch them from time to time.

mussakka,

Alton is pretty much the only reason I watch FN anymore, and even he's getting a bit old/overexposed. I liked ICA for the first few episodes, but it really doesn't do much for me, and I mentioned my thoughts on Feasting above.

Good Eats seems to have perked back up a lot this season (though it still looks tired compared to a lot of the classic eps they've been re-running lately). However, it sounds as though it may be the last season, if the rumors I've heard about AB's contract not being renewed yet are correct. Honestly, if GE goes, my last real motivation to watch the channel is going with it.

Hmmm...Schedule-wise I think FN is in a late summer ooky time. Fall and holiday time will perk right up!

Paula Deen is getting a tad overexposed. Rachel has hit maximum overexposure. Giada might as well start doing her shows topless. AB is still just as cool as ever.

As an aside, I caught Giada's Weekend Getaways in Santa Barbara and Giada had her nails done in RED. Whoa, dude. I guess that means I'm gonna hafta get me some red polish.

$100.00? That's cheap. I'd go.

I love Emeril at 7. Alton bores me.

I love Daisy. That Ingrid chick is the worst.

You gotta admit - what might be a saver is maybe in a late spot - 10 EST, 9 Cent would be a "mud wrestling with the bitches and babes of FN" it seems like Giada and Ingrid have a hard time keeping their bodacious tata's properly harnessed! Covered with mud while Emeril and Chef Morimoto served beverages ringside - wearing tassles and thongs - oh if only.... Roberto desde Miami

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Ingrid. Although, I must admit I saw her as a bad omen when they started showing commercials for her show while JAG was still competing in Next Food Network Star, so I might be holding a grudge.
