Gimme Gimme More
Now that Emeril Live won't be on in primetime anymore, the network's got a few extra hours to fill each night. Even though I'm kind of on va-cay here in the Midwest, I thought I'd post about all the new shows coming up.
I'm very excited for my blogging friend Sunny Anderson who, in addition to getting a second season of Cooking for Real, will be premiering a new show in July, How'd That Get On My Plate?
"Each episode follows the fascinating journey of a single ingredient (such as eggs, garlic, honey or apples) as it moves from its raw state into the finished, iconic product. Watch Sunny as she travels the country from the farm, through the factory and to the market and showcases the technology and innovation it takes to get our favorite foods to the plate. Whether milking a cow, making a martini out of potato vodka, harvesting honey or driving a corn-harvesting combine, Sunny dives into the behind-the-scenes action and finds out how food gets on our plates!"
Sunny describes it as a cross between History Channel's Modern Marvels and Food Network's Unwrapped, so I'm excited for this show, as I've been known to sit through episode after episode of Unwrapped, endlessly watching some huge machine shoot a million Twinkies out a minute.
In other new news:
* Food Network has ordered up 13 more episodes of Simply Delicioso, hosted by Colombia-born Ingrid Hoffmann. Chica! Chica!
* Adios, Jamie and Bobby! Hello--the Neelys! Pat and Gina Neely are hitting the road for Road Tasted with the Neelys.
"This next iteration of the popular show follows the fun-loving couple to cities including San Diego, Baltimore, Portland, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Kansas City where they’ll highlight specialty stores and family-run businesses that make one-of-a-kind edibles. Armed with the knowledge of what it takes to launch a successful family business and a passion for all things food, they'll even show viewers how to get all the fabulous food finds delivered right to their doors."

So Sunny and the Neelys both have secondary, non cooking-based shows premiering this Summer. Where's Ingrid's new show? There are a lot of countries in Central and South America she could be visiting!

As for Road Wasted with the Neely's, why do the FN keep cramming this obnoxious wife and her sucky husband on us ?
We know FN want to up the African American demographic. I get it. Surely there must be much more worthy black people or a person that can do the job.
Sunny just proved how easy a transition it is for relative newcomers, and she probably pitched them first.
Gina Neely is setting back race relations 25 years with her on camera behaviour.
I know many African Americans who cringe when you mention Gina Neely.
So don't try and brand me racist.

Yeah, The Secret Life of..., hosted by Jim O'Conner. I liked him; he was cute.
How'd That Get On My Plate? is a remake of the FN show "Follow That Food" with Gordon Elliot. It was on even before "The Secret Life of..." It took a single food item ("such as eggs, garlic, honey or apples") and traced it from its origin to its final state in the grocery store. Then it showed a few people cooking with it and Gordon happily tasting everything with lots of "yums" thrown in. My favorite episode was the one on chocolate.

That's totally a rip-off of Follow That Food! And Road Tasted is a rip-off of Food Finds! Oy!

I do like Sunny so in my book, that's goo news.
I also like the Neely's, so I hope this show will go well for them.
Ingrid...depends on what she's cooking, she's okay, I don't despise and I don't love her.
Gina Neely is the most discusting person I have even seen on Foodnetwork. Her sexsual comments about the food and her husband make me SICK. My 16 year old love foodnetwork and I would never let her watch this show. Isn't there enough of this sexsual crap on other stations??? Now on a cooking show. Shame on you Foodnetwork
what happened to the chefs on Food Network???..this has all been dumbed down..does not appeal to the masses.. too lame...time to retune what is being put out!

NO. Sorry but that's Paula Deen you're talking about. I like the Neely's.
The stuff the Neelys cook up is basic blue collar church supper fare which just about anyone could make.
I mean if their signature dish is BBQ spaghetti doesn't that say something about their skill level.
They are on FN for one reason only and that is to attract African American viewers. Not because they are accomplished cooks.
FN should be ashamed of such low level programming. Gina Neely verges on being such a boor sometimes, it is quite sad.
Just like on HGTV, the Food Network is turning more towards "personalities" than true talented chefs. I can't stand Sunny, The Neelys, Danny Boome, or that new girl on "Chic and Easy". I would rather watch reruns of my favorites (Giada, Ina, Ellie) than the garbage they are showing now.
Road Tasted with the Neelys? You've got to be kidding. Are we going to be subjected to revolting commercials for that one too?

I love the Neely's because I realize that most chefs on FN are, unlike the Neely's, uneducated. These people know their food! Also, many self proclaimed "foodies" who post here are unemployed stay-at-home moms or their husbands who contribute little to society beyond whining on a web site. Sorry, it's true.
The Neely's are really awful watch. It is not because they are black it's because their personalities simply come across as annoying and sickening. The whipped husband and the fat woman who thinks she's a goddess. Give me a break.

Am I the only one to notice that Sunny Anderson is an exact, studied, deliberate, obvious, rip off of Rachel Ray? Her voice patterns, movement, gestures, facial expressions, and cutesiness are almost as nauseating as R.R.. When I first saw her show I thought I was watching a SNL parody, but NO, it's for real! Good Lord, what pathetic pandering! Did Bubbly, I mean Sunny, figure out she could make lots of money copying R.R. for stupid people and pitch it to Food Network, or was Food Network cynical enough to create her and insult us (especially African Americans) with a pathetic attempt to attract a larger black audience? Somebody please tell me!
