Sandra Gets Queeny for Halloween

I honestly couldn't tell you one thing Sandra Lee cooked in her Halloween special this year... but I do remember the costumes!

In case you can't tell, that isn't Sandra's everyday hairstyle (altho if it gets her the Emmy for best hairstyling next year, I think she might start rockin' it a bit more) or costume but actually her take on Marie Antoinette. Kinda close? Maybe?

I'm thinking it's a bit closer to 1990 VMAs Madonna performing Vogue in Victorian drag, but good effort, Sandy Sand!

Aunt Anne Boleyn. Umm... all right.

Guinevere!

My favorite! Aunt Sandy as Queen Elizabeth I. Love the powdered face!

Again, I think food might have been served, cocktails were probably drunk, but I have no recollection of that stuff. Props to Sandy for really going all out. I love her, but I bet an orange button-up shirt is as much Halloween as Ina Garten gets.

Did you watch?

  3. I could only handle the first 5 minuets. and she did acctually fry up some fritters and made dipping sauces! How semi-homade.

  4. Oh GAG me... She must of been hitting the bottle all day before taping this show.

  5. I thought the collarbone in the Guinevere costume would be the scariest thing I saw all day. . . then I scrolled down. . .

  6. I think I'm glad I missed this one!

Wish I could say the same about the Halloween episode of Paula's Party -- as usual, too much talking and not enough cooking!

  7. I thought it was her best Halloween episode yet. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at a Food Network show!! The first Boleyn costume I kept thinking that that hair extension with the jewel at the end of it was going to dip into everything she was making and then the Guinevere outfit--I couldn't stop staring at the wig. I can't for the life of me remember anything she made either. All I did during the whole episode was stare at her bosoms and I'm not gay!!! The Queen Elizabeth was frightening. For some reason it made me think of Cher and I was waiting for Aunt Sandy to burst out "If I Could Turn Back Time"!!! If you haven't seen the episode - don't miss it!!

  8. I would take Sandra Lee in a Queen costume any day over a cackling snorting Paula Deen in her Witch costume or worse her Stick Of Butter costume !

  9. Not a Sandra Lee fan but I have to agree with you BJ.

  10. Thanks for the comparison shots, Jsaon.

I don't remember what she cooked either but I did enjoy watching her bounch around.

For the negative folk, its halloween for heavens sake y'all must live in the houses with the lights out when the trick or treaters come by

  11. I'm surprised that Paula Deen doesn't dress herself up in a Vagina costume ...

  12. Now THAT is my semi-Ho. Cocktail time for all!

  13. Well done and enjoyable to watch. What else do you want ? Sure she coulda had a few cocktails while filming it, but who gives a crap ?

Credit to the costume/wardrobe people to research period costumes. Obviously not someone on the FN payroll.

Kudos to hair makeup crew too.

  15. Off with her head - or let her eat her own cooking. Same result.

  19. I have to admit her costumes were great. Even my 16 year old daughter said she watched her costumes and not what she was cooking. Who would eat that food anyway.

  20. I poked fun at Sandy's latest Halloween show on my own blog. I remember doing the same last year. Hey, I remember the last holiday special she did. I Googled "I hate Sandra Lee" and you popped up almost at the top. Funny! Really, though, I think 2007's show was when she outdid herself. This ep, astoundingly, seemed more sedate than last year's. And the food was kind of edible, too.

  21. Poor Sandy. It's like she's the joke of the FN. I guess it's good to mix things up ya know like a good cocktail.

  22. Yeah, there was some "bloody" boozey drink ... LOL It was gin, lemon juice, cranberry juice, peach schnapps and some other alcohol (it was kinda brownish) ... I remember cause the labels on the booze were bogus ...

I thought she was making some kind of ham & corn casserole that she was gonna bake ... but then she put some of it into the deep fryer which I thought was odd cause it batter had too much liquid in it and you could tell the second it hit the hot oil ... LOL

I think the Halloween show where she's totally macking on Tyler is better ... At least she didn't have RR and her "yummy mummies" on ... LOL

  23. Anon. 9:05 ... Got it wrong dear... Paula Deen is the joke of FN...And , they make a lot of money off of her being a joke as well as her wildly loyal fan base ...

  24. Betty,
It's a toss up as to who is the biggest joke. Paula did not use to be, until Paula's Party. I have to go with Aunt Sandy. The cocktails, matching kitchen and table scapes put her on top. And at least Paula can cook (without seasoning packets).

  25. True , but the Paula over the top act over shadows everything . And , I used to be a real fan too.

  26. I agree with you Laura. I cannot watch Paula or Sandy (or Sunny for that matter). I have made Paula's recipes but won't touch Aunt Sandy's crap (even though I think she is attractive her food isn't). So take that Betty DEAR.

And we all know they make alot of money doesn't mean we have to like them. It's all in good fun.

  27. Hey Anon 10:35 ... Get over it and remove the corn cob from your own behind before you chide someone else about theirs ...

  28. Hey 11:13 see 9:14 you budinski.

BTW that corn cob idea sounds good to me.

  30. I went to my 1st ever Aunt Sandy booksigning and it was THE best one of all FN personalities I have ever been too. I think it wasn't highly announced and I only went because it was literally 20 minutes from where I live and didn't interfere with my work schedule. I'm not a huge fan of her cooking or tablescapes but she was fantastic. She had a q&a, posed for photos, talked about her new books and her Halloween episode and new stuff she has going on. She was very personable and super sweet. It helped that there were literally under 100 people there so it made it intimate and not so rushed. I don't think there was much promotion. I love me some Aunt Sandy now!

  31. Well Charles I agree with you on this one... I'm a big fan too !

  32. Um, Madonna was not in Victorian drag--she was also portraying Marie Antoinette just like Sandra!

Sandra cannot cook her way out of a paper bag but she has a good makeup and hair team who obviously did some research!
