Paula Deen Sued for $40 Million

Hey y'all! If y'all could get y'all's butts down to my restaurant The Lady & Sons in Savannah and run up about an, oh, forty-million dollar check... I'd really appreciate it. Best dishes!

That's what I imagine Paula Deen might be saying to her fans now that she's being counter sued by Celebrity Chefs Tours LLC for $40 million.

As you may remember, Paula Deen sued Celebrity Chefs Tours LLC back in February for defamation. She had recently canceled a 10-city tour organized by CCT and alleged the company defamed her and her sons' companies over the reason they backed out.

WELL, CCT has since filed a $40 million answer, counterclaims, and third-party complaint against Paula Deen Enterprises and Deen Brothers Enterprises, as well as Paula's hubby Michael Groover and her agent.

CCT's argument includes complaints of an alleged lack of promised publicity on the part of Paula and her sons, concerns "about the language used by Paula Deen on stage, that her show is not 'family-friendly' and the fact that audiences at her previous appearances have been disappointed by the fact that Paula Deen rarely cooks during her performance."

Also, a "sizzle reel" sent to CCT by Paula Deen Enterprises (PDE) for the purposes of marketing the performances was apparently "so full of inappropriate remarks and sexually suggestive materials" that CCT advised PDE's representatives that it would not be able to use that video. According to CCT, Deen's camp never agreed to edit the video.

Yikes! Methinks Paula won't want to be giving $40 million away without a fight.

Having seen Paula Deen "perform," I can assure you that, yes, she is very racy and sexually suggestive during the live events I'd attended... but those were all 21 and over events. I have no doubt that Paula performs much differently during the many children events she does every year, but I'm not really sure how she works in this middleground, gray area where both adults and kids are potentially present.

Paula's got a LOT of dick jokes.. and she wants to tell 'em!

So many lawsuits are swirling. Who do you think will win?

No idea who will win..but between her decorum and the Smithfield thing, I'm definitely not a fan of her anymore.

Dirty, dirty, dirty old woman. On the rare opportunity I catch an old episode, like pre-2005, I weep for who she used to be before being Elliot-ized.

Um, if they think she's so racy and inappropriate, why did they sign a contract with her? Hello, she sued them because their check bounced! This seems like another attempt at defamation against Paula to get out of admitting they defrauded her when they sent a bad check. I know Paula is racy, and sometimes I have to turn her show off because it makes me feel embarrassed for her, but you can't make a contract with someone, bounce a check, and then try to use ridiculous excuses to get out of it. So, they're saying that her raciness, which was known to them beforehand, is an acceptable reason to send bad checks to her and still expect her to work? That's absurd!

Yeah, not a huge fan of Paula Deen. However, I've never met a promoter who wasn't total sleaze under a corporate name. Bounced checks, "forgotten" wire transfers and late payment are so common that many veteran acts have started to demand payment in cash. An extreme example is Aretha Franklin, who's been screwed so many times she won't even go on stage until that cash payment is in the hands of her people.

This is likely just a promoter who tried to run the usual scam, got caught and is now trying to save face (not to mention a few other acts on the verge of doing the same as Deen, I'm sure).

She's not an entertainer, she's a cook (I can't in good faith call her a chef). Unless you orgasm hearing her talk about butter and cheese and bacon, why would you ever go see her. Seeing an unattractive, overweight, old woman tell dicks jokes is not exactly my idea of great entertainment. Her popularity continues to amaze me - I just don't get it.

She's not an entertainer, she's a cook

That's a worthless distinction in this business matter. Promoters are promoters, and they're uniformly sleazy. I mean, it's great you feel ways about things, but it doesn't change anything.

This lady ran off the rails a few years back. She has a filty mouth and male guests on her shows are embarrassed. Her sons must be embarrassed by her behavior. I know several people who have sent letters to the FCC complaining about her filthy mouth in prime time TV. I have trouble with Food Network continuing to support her and renewing her contracts.

I wrote to the FCC two times about her sexual innuendos during prime viewing time. The first time they assigned a case number. The second time no response. Paula Deen is a toilet tongue that should not be

From the lawsuit against Paula it appears that the promoter never bounced a check and that the promoter actually did wire the finds to her. Plus, she has been sued for comparing the promoter to "spoiled food" in her restaurant!

She is a total pig, her husband is Captain Creepy and her sons are borderline retarded.

And this is the 4 th lawsuit to be brought against her in 5 yrs.

The FCC has no authority to regulate cable TV content-- it only regulates BROADCAST television.

I for one am sick to death of seeing this woman's face plastered on everything. And now her two dopey sons and her husband. Why doesn't she just go back to Savannah and stay in her restaurant and leave the rest of us alone. I can see why food network loves her, look at all the other crap they broadcast. Remember when it used to be about the food.

Yes JC I do and I miss those days. Paula was one of my favorites at the time and now I can't tolerate her anymore. I miss Sara Molton (sp?)and some of the other CHEFS that were in to teaching. Tush and Suzy are always pushing for personal stories, which I could care a less about. I just want to learn new recipies and ways to cook.

Oh come on people...she's a great cook and no one is telling you to use her meals! She was cheated out of money! I think she works very hard for that money! If your boss bounce your check I'm sure you would be in your boss's office the very next day asking questions! She and her boys continued work in good faith... They didn't have to! I saw her on Wheel of Fortune and I thought she was great on there and no filthy mouth. Her live shows have a little sexually innuendos, but so do cartoons! Food Network you better keep her on I enjoy her shows.

I learned at a young age how to turn the channel if I didn't like a show or person on television. All of you who are making comments about Paula's dirty mouth, her family, etc. obviously are too stupid to turn the channel! I like a little entertainment with my cooking and she and her family certainly provide it in true down home fashion. I guess I am an overweight, trash mouth cook because I love her shows and her cooking!

hahahaa, believe me she does not edit her content for family events. she doesn't care whether it's a room full of families and children or old people. she says what she wants and damnit you can't expect a food network COOK to cook? not when she can be babbling about losing her virginity, y'all!

Um, anonymous 11:47, I don't know where in the south you grew up (because I mean, you must have, in order to be a judge of all things "true down home" in fashion) but I'm born, bred and continue to live in the south. What Pawler does cannot be considered true down home fashion. Down here, we have values and morals just like the rest of the country. We do not all but totally molest strangers who come into our homes nor do we try to all but commit murder with hideously dangerous cooking. She did used to come across as more of a sweet, country lady, but she has bastardized her image into something totally unpalatable.

Years ago, I worked waiting tables in Savannah and Paula Deen arrived one evening to dine with some guests. She was rude, boisterous, and quite frankly, behaved like a pig (even going as far as to pick up her meat entree and eat it with her hands). Her language was inappropriate and she certainly lacked the "Southern charm" that she portrays on television. As far as I'm concerned, the Paula Deen seen on the Food Network and in the media is nothing more than a fictional character.

Someone earlier said something like "do you remember when the food network was about food?" I couldn't agree more! Now it's more about deep cleavage and perfect kitchens and french manicures (see Giada...), shock entertainment like Paula and a totally warped view of what frugal shopping and cooking really is (see Sandra Lee and Melissa D'arabian). I really don't understand why it's changed so much... And the most interesting part is that with the exception of a few shows most food that cooked is mind numbingly simple and just plain boring... I mean c'mon... Do we really have to ask Aida if we can zest an orange... Duh!

I wish that I could get in on this. I would sue her for being so annoying!

My sister and I went to see Paula Deen Live in Atlanta about two years ago. This was a 10 am show, with children present. And yes...she did say alot of off color remarks about the male anatomy. We were very disappointed. Would not go to another live show because of this.

Paula Deen has admitted what was alleged against her! In pleadings filed in court on April 5th by her lawyers in response to the $40 million counter-claim against her by promoter Celebrity Chefs Tour, LLC, Paula Deen has admitted that her agent never signed the contract that would have allowed the money for her appearances to be sent to him as an escrow agent. She has also admitted that she issued the defamatory statements that Celebrity Chefs Tour alleged. Finally, she now admits that she was wired $100,000 from the promoter.

So Paula lied about the check bouncing, eh. She is a disgusting pig.

No offense but I am starting to think that it's as much as Deen's fault but the people who are attending an event that is not specifically labeled as "family event". I mean seriously? That's as absurd as parents who buy Grand Theft Auto for their children, see inappropriate films like Kick-Ass then claim they were "disappointed" that it was so "violent/sexy/etc" You need to be disappointed in yourselves. Honestly.. wouldn't you first make sure it was appropriate before attending an event? Simply because something is marketed a certain way doesn't mean it won't be off-color. Then again, I have heard racy jokes in Spongebob Squarepants.. so I suppose it doesn't surprise that one) raciness comes in all packages two) there will always be uninformed or ignorant people...

All Paula's lawyer have to do is get a jury of 12 gay men and whe will win, hands down.
I like her, as someone previously said if you don't like her, change the channel. It's not like it's the old days where you had a couple of channels to choose from, cable has hundreds of channels.

Paula I m very disappointed at the level to were you and other famous cooks protray how smart and clean you all are. WHAT ABOUT SCRATCHES OE SORES ON THERE HANDS THEY NEVER COOK WITH GLOVES WHY I DON'T WANT DANDRUFF IN MY FOOD BECAUSE WERE A NET, AFTER ALL IM A REASON YOUR'E THERE ANYWAY THINK PEOPLE BEFORE YOU EAT IT MAY NOT BE CLEAN.......

I love Paula . I have seen all the others . Paula does not forget her southern roots , the fact she was poor and her loving sons are always there to suppport her . So are you all just watching the butter ??? It takes more than just a spectacular cook to make a show she has the best ingredients for all.....

I hope PAULA DEEN LOOSES. She and her recipes are disgusting, promoting heart diseases and getting FAT. All she cares about is getting as much money as she can, using her show to promote her sons in the hopes of getting them their own show on the network, and publicity in general - As if her sons have any real talent as chefs - they're at the most home cooks, but more like sons of a parent that owns a restaurant - And that parent herself is no chef.

I like paula deen, aren't we spliting hair's here. this woman came from nothing thus through hard work and beleif and two children she is doing what she loves. don't take info printed or gossiped about and label her. have you been to one of bethanny frankle on tour promoting her book, now she has potty mouth, but i like her, she doesn't apolize for nothing she says, you don't go don't and pretend your living in a perfect world. have any of you watched the neeley's cooking show. they both use sexual enuendos and the bumping & grinding going on there. i wathced them one saturday moring and boy i thought there would be a matress on the floor instead of the island. i think paula deen has a strong following so if you don't want to watch her tv show, change the channel or don't go see her at a state, or city near you. filter your mouth.
