Another Handy Tip from Ina

I'm guilty of re-watching the same episodes of Barefoot Contessa over and over. Some may call that crazy, yet I see it as pure adoration.

(I hope the people who read this get that I'm being slightly facetious when I speak of Ina. I'm just tryin' to keep a spring in your step.)

I've even written about the countless tips I've picked up... countless times.

One of my favorite Ina tips is her habit of reminding us to "crack each egg into a separate bowl."

Her justification is that you "never know when you'll get a bad egg."

I have to tell you Ina... I don't crack my eggs into a separate bowl (shudder and sigh)!

In fact, I don't even think I'd know what a "bad egg" looked like. I've never cracked open an egg to find a black yolk or a live chicken, for that matter. In those cases, I would-- yes-- probably regret the fact that I hadn't chosen to use the separate bowl.

But for my general brownie making, I'm going to live on the edge.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure if the egg is black or discolored in any way you wouldn't consider "normal," that would probably constitute a bad egg. Ina power!

I always think the same thing when she gives the egg tip. I'll take my chances. Saw a rerun with TR today -- to quote Rachael, "Yum-O"

I always thought the same thing about the whole cracking each egg into a separate bowl first. That was until I did crack a bad egg into my batter.

As for watching reruns of Contessa, I think all of us Food Network fans are guilty of watching the same episodes over and over no matter how many times we've seen them. I know I am.

I generally crack all my eggs into one separate bowl before adding them to my batter, mostly so I don't get shells in my baked goods.

I also don't know how to tell a "bad egg," but I remember one of my high school teachers telling us that if you got an egg with a red dot in it, it would have "grown up" to be a chicken. I think of him, and his ceaseless attempts to insert pro-life propaganda into our Honors biology class, every time I eat eggs.

im rewatching the nautical theme ina (daqueris, eggplant dip..), and I just realized she made a dig at "tablescapes". Sandra-Lee is totally crying now.

something along the lines of "I don't know who came up with the idea of tablescapes, but they make me CRAZY." Amazing.

There's just so much to comment on here - Ina, rewatching FN shows, great cooking tips - that I'll have to restrain myself. But as far as confronting a bad egg, suffice it to say that, just like the Supreme Court and smut, you would definitely know one if you saw it.

anon: right on.

sassy: isn't she?

harry: haha.

quincy: sorry about the bad egg.

jordan: haha... hilarious. thank god (our one lord and savior-- learned that from my math teacher) for teachers like that.

kev: ina wouldn't have it any other way.

noah: other people have mentioned that ep. to me, but I dont remember it. good for her!

Who isn't guilty of watching Ina prepare Jeffrey dinner in her absence for the 4th time?! Or making the Boeuf Bourguignon (extra luxurious since its “filet”) to send into the city for her friend's daughter who just finished exams?

The question is, does anyone know when there will be a new season of Ina? And if we’re lucky enough, would the new season feature that supposed second kitchen of hers, or is that just an urban Food Network legend?

LOVE this website.
