Who's Got the PoweRR???

There's this nice young lady named Rachael Ray who seems to be getting quite a bit of attention these days. Perhaps you've seen her on the TV? Your magazine rack? Your grocery shelf, cell phone, kitchen gadget and olive oil? Well... the celebricook (along with Arianna Huffington and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin) is now on the cover of Newsweek!

I like making the good life more accessible to everybody. I told my mom that I
wished we could do something in our community to show mothers and latchkey kids
that they could make really good food, even on a shoestring, and improve their
lives. So now with every avenue that we can think of we're trying to get
healthy, fun, affordable recipes into the hands of kids and their parents so
that they can cook for and with each other.

It's nice to see that the mainstream media is starting to pay a lot more attention to Rachael and the other celebrity chefs who are trying to use their influence to make a difference (is Oprah rubbing off on RR or what?). Rachael can't do an interview anymore without mentioning her Yum-O charitable organization. I'll have to check out this issue and read more about if/how women do, in fact, lead differently. Hmm....

************************************************************

I'm back in New York today and tomorrow. I have had quite a busy past few days, what with family members visiting, museums to be visited, enormous amount of food to be eaten, etc., etc.

I was lucky enough to attend a taping of the Late Show with David Letterman tonight-- guests are George Clooney and Kid Rock. Sadly, Ina Garten didn't appear... what's up with that Ina? Regardless, it was a very fun experience. I also still plan on visiting Pinkberry, which I missed last time.

We just got back from dinner at Tao (I just had it when I was in Vegas, but had to go again). It's so delish. No Food Network in the hotel room, so I had to miss the premiere of "The Next Iron Chef." How was it? Alton his usual self? I need the details.

Happy Columbus Day, as well. If you had the day off, hope you enjoyed it!

Well, I didn't catch TNIC, so I'll let someone else fill you in, but you also missed the premier of Nigella's new show, "Nigella Express." Basically, it's quick and easy stuff which she admits is not healthy at all. New set, too.

There's a rather amusing story about her almost spilling out of her dress. Check it out: http://tinyurl.com/37dctu

(singing) "one of these things is not like the other! one of these things just doesn't belong..."

also, your choices of what to eat in ny are... sad. pinkberry? seriously? can you spell hype? may i recommend a dosa from this year's vendy-award winning cart in washington square? maybe just some decent pizza.

next iron chef was a ginormous disappointment. overly produced, poorly paced, and so heavy handed with the "panning-in-on-everyone's-intense-expressions" school of cinematography that is so prevalent these days. my main complaint was the complete lack of commentary from the judges about the dishes...it was so edited down that you got maybe one adjective about each competitor's dishes. and the end wherein alton had to tell each chef one by one whether they "will live to cook another day" was downright painful to sit through. food network has unfortunately filled this show with 90% filler and i don't think i will continue to watch. i was SO looking forward to this show but it has fallen victim to bad production before it even got off the ground.

on a technical side note, they made it look like the kitchens at CIA are downright deplorable...do they not have air conditioning? functioning freezers? do they do this on purpose or was the school in that bad shape? either way I was annoyed.

sadly taking it off my tivo,

moi
