Back to Reality

Well, I made it back safely last night from Miami. I had a really good time last year, but this year's FNSBW&FF was truly outstanding. I met lots of amazing people, drank some awesome wine, scarffed on some all right food, and even picked up a few cooking tips along the way.

Here's a little slideshow of photos. I'm sorry if it takes a while to load.

It's so surreal to think that less than two years ago I decided to start a blog about Food Network people and now, just yesterday, I was sitting on a couch in the lobby of the Loews hotel next to Iron Chef Morimoto while waiting for Tyler Florence and his wife to come downstairs for coffee. So crazy!

Stay tuned over the coming days for my in-depth (perhaps obsessive?) coverage of the Grand Tasting Village, cooking demos, and late night parties... plus interviews with Ace of Cake's Duff, Mary Alice & Geoff and Tyler Florence. Also, be on the lookout for my interview with Adam Roberts on foodnetwork.com's FN Dish. They already have some fun videos posted from the weekend.

Okay... back to reality.

I gotta tell you that kid Adam Roberts is doing a swell job. As long as he approachs this gig with levity and an offbeat sense of humor, then it should be worth tuning into.

As for you Jake, I am kind of jealous you are able to mingle with some of these guys. Keep your Paulas and Rachels, but Bourdain, Florence, Oliver, Flay , I'd buy em a drink anyday.

Now Rachel did look a tad steamy in one of your pictures. Was the millstone around her constantly ?

Is that mary alilce in the yellow caftan-y drees. Yikes, that is not at all a flattering look for her. Makes her look about 50.

I think I smell a book deal coming up for you!

Great photos, and looking forward to reading the goings-on. I'd love to know what Michael Chiarello is up to these days.

Anything new or interesting regarding Bobby Deen or Paula Deen. According to the video from Adam Roberts, Paula's Poker Party featured a drag queen!

For 007 Secret Agent Alec Smart, the babes are only good for screwing.

Oh Alec. You're such a masculine character. And quite the heterosexual!

timotheus - My wife and I were just saying this the other day!!! I said either she was pregnant or giving into the downfall of working in a bakery. She looks a lot bigger than last season!

angie: thanks very much! glad you enjoyed that nod to Robert Irvine.

ckuretich: it really is an awesome time. I highly recommend it to any and all FNAs.

alec: yeah, i think adam is doing a great job. I didn't see Rachael's husband other than at the party one night. I think his band did a gig one night, so perhaps they were practicing. Hmm...

anon: it's her... it might be my bad camera angle. I have some beter ones.

pat: haha... perhaps. i saw chiarello taking pictures on the sand, but didn't have time to get into his demo. he's super busy out in cali, i'm sure.

shannon: nope... looked busy. he ended up leaving quickly with a driver.

anon: i actually didn't see Bobby Deen all weekend! I should have done better to stalk him, but he wasn't onstage during Paual's demo. I didn't go to the drag queen poker party, either. Dang!

anon: alec smart is becoming such a commenter celebrity here!

timotheus: i can pretty much assure you she isn't pregnant.

tablebread: we drank a few beers together, so I hope she's not pregnant. I think she looks great.

She honestly just looks like a person who is confident and comfortable with her own style and doesn't care what others say about it or think. I do have to give her props for being able to pull off some colors that I'm not sure if everyone can do. She likes to choose it seems stuff that you don't see as often--like bright yellow for example. (Not necessarily talking about these pictures vtw...) I remember they showed her at an event (think it was one of the zoo ones) and she pulled off wearing this bright yello t-length dress with black trim which most don't look good in, yet in my opinion either because I'm just different or what ever, she looked awesome.

Jacob, Did you know that the Academy is now allowing online content like webisodes and online films to be eligible for nomination in this years Primetime Emmy's. I think last year they were allowed for the DT Emmy's, so it's pretty cool they're actually considering online amateur/indie footage for nomination this year. If you're interested or want to read more, check out www.emmys.com. I'm workin with the Academy to help spread the message about the new nominations, so if you get to check it out let me know! It'd be nice to see FN Dish win an award =)

" I" said to my disbelief : "Jacob, Did you know that the Academy is now allowing online content like webisodes and online films to be eligible for nomination in this years Primetime Emmy's".

"I" do you actually think there is anyone on FN that even comes close to Emmy status ? Other than Alton for Feasting On Asphalt ?

I love to hear who else anyone thinks worthy of anything near an Emmy. Emmys require time, money, effort, and a commitment to excellence, something I think FN
does not possess currently. FN is quickly becoming a low budget, bargain network with the think tank near empty. I'd be bringing in some new coaches.
