SPOILER: AoC Avenue Q Cake

Playbill has a sneak peek of the cake Duff and the crew at Charm City Cakes created for the Broadway hit, Avenue Q. It's going to be featured on tonight's new episode of Ace of Cakes.

I haven't seen Avenue Q, so I'm not sure if the backstage is part of the show or not. Still, it's fun that they worked that into the cake, too.

And in double-fun Ace of Cakes news, Mary Alice has updated the official Charm City Cakes blog:

"Happy spring, everyone! March has certainly come in like a Lion here in Charm City. This week we commenced filming our fifth season of Ace of Cakes. Holy cow, it's hard to believe. We're so happy to have the familiar faces of our crew back in the bakery, and already there are some pretty amazing cakes on the docket.

This weekend Duff and Geof will be traveling to the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota where they will be participating in the Great American Bake Sale to benefit Share Our Strength. They will be creating, and I swear to god I am not making this up, the WORLD'S LARGEST CUPCAKE. As in, for reals. There will be a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records on hand to confirm its world's-biggest status.

If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by and say hello. The best part is, after they have finished the cupcake monster, it will be cut up and the pieces will be auctioned off to benefit Share Our Strength. A great big cupcake for a great cause! "

Any Minnesotans (sotians?) out there? If so, hit up the world's largest bake sale. Sandra Lee will be thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. =)

And, yes, I'm still bitter that Aunt Sandy dropped out of the South Beach festival in Feb. I must see her before I die!

The backstage isn't part of the show, but it does make a nice 3-d effect for the cake, and I'm sure the cast and crew of the show enjoyed having it a part of the cake.

Avenue Q is completely hilarious, if a bit dirty, so if you ever get the opportunity to see the show, I strongly urge you to take it!

That promo picture of Aunt Sandy promoting the Great American Bake Sale make her look smokingly good.

I'd bake cupcakes with Sandra Lee anyday.

She must be doing something right to garner all this attention.

The Ep was on last night. Great show (as always) but they kind of glossed over Duff (falling off of) and his scooter. His face is all bruised up. I guess it doesn't have much to do with the cakes but we hope he's ok.

and just remember "Everyone's a little bit racist sometimes..."

patty: I definitely want to see it. It was just in DC, so I'll have to go elsewhere.

alec: (sigh)

jordan: i gotta learn all these puppet characters, now.

anon: that's a line from the show, right?

darryl: i know that's a line from the show. and, yeah, the accident was a bit weird, but there's only so much you can cover in a 30 minute show. Duff seemed fine in Feb., so he's thankfully recovered.

Is Mary Alice preggo? She looks adorable, radiant, and happy. I'd love to send her some handknit baby clothes!

That cake is so awesome. It Doesn't Suck to Be Me when I eat that cake, that's for damn sure (but the stomachache from eating it all will make the focus of some justified Schadenfreude).

Jake, since you are so tight with the Ace Crew, can you find out a bit about the building where Charm City Cakes is housed ?

I do not think they have ever discussed the actual building, although it looks to be quite historic. My first guess was that it is originally was a prison.

Since I am fan of architecture, I am curious.I'm sure many other Cakeheads are too.

Let us know if you can help us out.

I think Mary Alice said it was originally a church. The stone facade and big doors seem to indicate that.

Duff has an apartment upstairs and in the basement is a small gym and the room in which they do their interviews with the cakes and colored backdrops behind them.

It's a cool space. I felt it seemed smaller than on TV when I was inside, but I guess people say the opposite all the time, too.

Even though you can't go in without an appt., you should check it out and at least drive by if you're ever in Baltimore.
