The Neely Rubdown's Breaking Me Down

Okay, that Down Home with the Neelys promo of Pat Neely rubbing meat has been airing nonstop and it's driving me a little nuts.

You know... the "there is nobody that can give a rubdown like he can" one.

It's not so much the concept that irritates me--it has that PG-13 kind of sexual humor that's standard to their show--but the fact that it seems so difficult for Gina Neely to speak this slowly.

Watch:

There   is   nobody   that   can   give   a   rubdown   like   he   can

I can just picture the people working on the promo shoot telling her, "Take it a little slower... and why don't you try and take that 'like he can' part up a bit!"

It just sounds so unnatural and forced. She obviously never speaks that slowly in real life, so why try and change that?

Maybe they should have given Pat Neely the lines.

I hate Gina Neely. I don't watch the show because of her.I saw one episode and it was one too many.

I cannot actually sit through this show because of these two. Especially her. It airs early morning on Saturdays on the Canadian Food Network and the sound of her voice is insane. These two need a room not a T.V. show.

The African-American version of Paula Deen...Gina Neely is obnoxious,loudmouthed , attention seeking,dirty-minded , nasty to her mother-in-law, hen-pecking and generally UNWATCHABLE !!!
Paula Deen with black skin...

I understand FN's need to bring more African American personalities to air, but boy did they ever mess up with this one.

Who let this woman out of her cage ? The show sometimes reminds me of John Singleton film. Gunfire can break out in the kitchen anytime. I wouldn't be surprised.

When black people in America are wondering and shaking their heads in disbelief and feeling this is just too much, you know someone really screwed up.

The stuff they cook, the family specialties and favorites look kind of sickening actually.

The lemonaid pie with Kool whip made we wanna hurl.

Well done Tuschman. No Emmys for you this year.

*nods head in agreement*

Could they have put any less thought into that commercial? Are they hoping to evoke a puking response or get more viewers?

Someone commented that she is like the African American version of Paula then talked about her being nasty to her mother-in-law... I agree that she's up there with Paula on the annoyance factor where Paula used to not be, but not sure we've ever seen Paula be nasty to her family members. We only seem to see her trying to be much unlike herself--assuming that was her real personality way back in the beginning...

I didn't mean that Paula Dumbbell Deen was mean to HER family ( although if you notice , she's controlling and very bossy to them though )... I was saying that Gina Good Time Gal Neely had a nasty, petty and competitive attitude toward her mother-in-law ...

this commercial ALWAYS makes me cringe!

I would be horrified if my son brought home a person like Gina Neely. Some people need to shut their cakeholes.

I am watching the episode airing April 26th in Michigan and it is about "game watching " or something to that nature. It has all the brothers getting together for a day of sports. WHY, WHY, WHY, is Gina in this episode???? I do feel that Pat and his brothers could carry this episode all by themselves.

This show is just wrong. Gina's voice is annoying and I'm tired of all the sex talk. This is a bad show all around. I hope it gets cancelled. Oh and Paula is bad now that she's rich. She's completely changed and for the worse. I can't even watch her anymore. Very sad.

Love 'em both, and Gina's hot!

At 5/01/2008 7:55 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

No...Gina just THINKS that she's hot...And,Paula Deen is just a sex - crazed old slut who needs a serious dose of saltpeter in her in her sweet tea...

This is a really bad show, it is too silly and sometimes has more to do with the Neely's and their sex life than it does cooking. There is very little talent there and just because your dad was a great BBQ man does not make you a TV star. Take it off the air..........

My husband and I call this show 'Cooking with the Cliches'. It is just terrible on all fronts. I like sexual innuendo as much as the next healthy girl but it doesn't need to be shoved down my throat on a sunday morning. Cancel this show now! I'm all for diversity but let's skip the walking stereotypes next time.

I am sick of this show. I agree that Food Network needs more African American hosts, but these people are just plain hard to watch! I have been happily married to the same man for 22+ years, and we don't act like they do in the kitchen! All of their "sexual" jokes and the way they fawn all over each other. It just seems forced and fake! PLEASE get rid of this awful show!!

My tv is on the Food Network channel each day and all day 24/7. I thought that I would love watching The Neely's. The show makes my hair stand on edge. Too much unnecessary talking, sexual comments in the kitchen is a bit much. When they took the show on the road, oh man that was it for me my nerves were shot. TOO bubbly, the both of them. I could go on and on but I think I got my point over. Iam all for loving and happy couples but this is over the top.VERY ANNOYING!!!!

At 7/26/2008 12:34 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love them both, particularly Gina. Then again, I love Paula Dean as well. *shrug* And I don't find her voice at all annoying...nasal, yes, but not on a Drescher level.

At 7/26/2008 6:57 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think some of the negative comments about Gina Neely arr unfair and they obviously come from individuals who know nothing about modern, southern black women. And specifically Memphis black women,
I've been a customer at the Neelys restaurant many times and they are both hard working and friendly people, especially Ms. Gina.
I'm take aback by some o the hostility directed at Gina Neely.

She is like many African-American women here in Memphis. She's spirited, friendly, flirtatious, fun, a talker, and yes, sexual. You've seen her husband, right?

Miss Gina probably has to be a bit aggressive to keep other women away from her husband.

Gina neely is the most annoying person I have ever seen. Their show sucks so bad. I turn off the food network everytime they come on. Now they have a new show. I won't be watching that either

At 8/12/2008 11:04 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow...I guess a lot of you just don't like black women, but that's okay. The show is great, and folks who understand black women and black culture don't find her annoying at all!

At 8/15/2008 12:05 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

agreed they are awful annoying and too lovey dovey!

At 8/20/2008 1:09 AM , Blogger maggie2 said...

I completely disagree with the idea that Gina represents modern, Southern, black, female culture. I am all of those things (from Mississippi, no less) and Gina's obnoxiousness, her "baby-voiced" high pitched whine are the height of what we were brought up NOT to be...annoying, clingy, just a little too "precious", she is a throwback to some stereotypes that are way too tired.

At 8/23/2008 11:46 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is the worst show that FN has ever aired. Is it just me that is sick and tired of seeing and hearing Gina's references to the fact that they are African American? The show sucks. Let one of the FN white stars make a reference about being white and see how fast the show is removed from the network.

At 9/06/2008 4:54 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The whole foodnetwork is really going down, everything about fine cooking is gone, where are the old times where meals are prepared the old delicous way without all the stupid shortcuts.
And let's talk about the neely's what an annoying show is that, I just hear that girl jakking around like an old hen, while hubby is cutting veggies like a 2nd rank citizen.
I'm not a racist by far, but why does someone who has bbq joints, has there own show, my God you don't have to be french trained for that, and the dishes they are making ...crap crap crap.
Sorry this was bothering me for a long time since I saw their show, and thank God I'm not the only one.

At 10/20/2008 4:12 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Its really unfortunate that people keep making this about race. ANY time a white person says something negative about a person who happens to be black, people get all up in arms about it.

I don't dislike the Neely's because they are black - it is because their show sucks. And I say that about most of the other food network stars these days.

The black people on here shouldnt be p'od for us not liking the Neely's - you should be mad that the FN doesnt include a non-jive talking black person who can cook something besides fried chicken.

For the love of all that is decent and watchable, please take this horrible show off the air! I myself am an African-American woman with parents of southern heritage, and I guarantee you my folks act NOTHING like the Neely's! I honestly cringe every time I see a commercial featuring this irritating couple. Trust me guys, regular black people DON'T behave like this! I gave the Neely's a fair chance when they first began airing on TFN, but within a few minutes of watching I found myself becoming both nauseated at the plethora of sexual innuendos and inappropriate suggestive language, and angered deeply by the cliche and racially stereotypical behavior being shoved down my throat. Who can even focus on the food when you have two country black people clearly overacting and "cooning and buffooning" before your eyes! I mean, at some point I was almost expecting annoying-ass Gina to get naked, smother herself with butter, straddle poor Pat, and whip out a freaking dildo! I love TFN, but this was a bad move on their part. The Neely's got to go!

I DESPISE this show! It's probably the worst one on this channel, and Food Network is my fav. channel. My sister and I both think that this couple is gross and need to get a room! Please, we don't need to see all of this! Also, Gina is so so SO annoying. I hope this show ends soon, I turn the channel everytime it comes on. Can't stand to watch even 10 minutes of it.

I hate this show. The wife sounds so fake when she talks. I feel like attacking her and punching in her skull. Sometimes I sit through this show in misery just waiting for Paula. I hate hate hate hate these ppl. The seem SO FAKE! Try making a show with REAL black ppl. I am black, and these ppl are FAKE!

At 7/03/2009 3:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Gina is so upseting to watch, she makes me angry, first of all Pat can barely get a word in she talks so much, he is such a sucka when it comes to her fake ass. The show would be so much better if all the brothers did it with out Gina Pina fake ass wena. I just hope the show does'nt last much longer, I can't stand to watch her, she is to fake.

At 10/25/2009 1:34 PM , Blogger daiquiria said...

I too am Black, and I can tell you that Black people do NOT act that way! Actually, I am mostly embarrassed at having to watch these two. I turn the channel each time they come on. Gina's voice can be annoying, but IMHO, Pat is the one who doesn't need to be on the show! Without him, Gina can actually do the cooking. He seems to be just an appendage because he does all the stirring and cutting for her. And I agree with everyone else who cannot STAND the sexual interplay in the kitchen!!! I mean, over the food, people? I understand you love each other, but do we have to SEE it everytime you cook? Save it for the bedroom, why dontcha! I say, either drop Pat Neely, or drop the entire show altogether.

I read alot of the comments and agree about Gina, she is annoying to watch. She needs to grow up and act like an adult. She's a little fatty, and as for Pat he's a big YA'll person. BOO! Paula Deen is enough to swallow with the Ya'll thing but Pat has picked it up and I can't stand it. I can't tolerate their show. I love watching foodnetwork, but when it comes to the Neelys show I immediatly change the channel. Trust me people it has nothing to do with them being black. Like I said before I love watching foodnetwork, but the Neelys, no thanks!

I have a feeling Pat's family hates her. Except for his brothers who she loves to flirt with.

Both Pat and Gina butcher the english language and their sexual innuendo is too much. We get it, they are a married duo. Give the sexy crap a rest already.

At 1/20/2010 5:45 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I swear, I want to ring her neck whenever she shouts, "kay?!" after ever recipe step she does.

And someone please tell her that Worcestershire sauce is not pronounced "wooshershire showze"

I absolutely hate this show. Their food actually looks pretty good, but I just can't stand Gina Neely. She's always just behaving in this weird way, this silly, loud, obnoxious way, and I want to watch for the food, but I can only take a few minutes of the show because of her.

At 4/11/2010 2:39 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Would someone teach the Neelys how to speak proper English. They went to the same schools we all did and English was a required subject. Are they trying to create a new language? I am tired of hearing dis and dat. Pat pronounces extract as estract to name only a few of the black lingo words they spit out. I can't take her arrogance and sexy attitude. She is to fat and ugly to be sexy!

I love watching FN but agree with all of the negative comments about the Neely's. I have to change the channel when they are on. How can FN, which producers so many GREAT shows allow this one to continue? Someone needs to take the time, man up and tell them face to face how bad their show is.

I am a Black Woman and am nothing like this, so please don't box me in with her.

I don't like this show. Has nothing to do with their color. If they were of any other race, I would still have a problem. Their behavior grosses me out. (YUCK)

It disgusts me to watch this show. Saw it once and the language and gestures make me want to throw up.

No more talk about "rubbing someone down or BIG DADDY"

At 6/28/2010 12:44 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jazzylinn, I agree that color has nothing to do with it. I would love to learn better methods of cooking true southern foods such as collard greens for example but I cannot watch an episode of them long enough to learn anything. Put the LOVE and passion of cooking in the food during the show. When the show is done, God bless them and their relationship but keep the tacky and insincere behavior off the TV. kitchen.

At 7/05/2010 4:06 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jazzylinn,

Correct, color has nothing to do with it. I hate to say but it is not only their actions but her voice just goes right through me. I like the recipes and want to learn more. I just wish it was someone else teaching me these exact recipes.

Gina Neely's voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard, very nasal and ultra annoying. She should always be muted, listen by closed captioning, its the only tolerable way. Why does The Food Network let them get away with all the sex in the kitchen?
Its highly unprofessional. Food can be sensual but they need to go the motel 6 and get it on instead of filming a cooking show.

At 8/22/2010 1:36 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Absolutely hate the show. They are both so fake. I have to switch the channel whenever their show is on. I've tried watching the show but they just have weird personalities. They also talk dirty, cannot watch the show with your kids around. Quotes from Gina like "give me some love", "give me some sugar", "Why do men have to stick their fingers into everything" are just disgusting. REMOVE THIER SHOW PLEASE!!

I just watched an episode of Tyler Florence making roasted filet mignon. LOOKED SO GOOD. Then the Neelys came on..Ruined my FN fun for the day. I would like to see if they are even married. They seem so fake. They can't cook. HECK, he can hardly cut vegetables. Simply unwatchable.

At 9/11/2010 8:25 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love The Neelys! They have great rapport with one another and it's so fun to see them interact. Although I may not be inclined to replicate a lot of their non-BBQ recipes ( I hate cheese, tomatoes and cilantro for the most part), I still very much enjoy their show for the bbq tips.

Yes, I am an African-American and I'm glad to see that the Food Network hasn't forgotten about us. African-Americans do cook, too...

Big props to Patrick, Gina, Paula and the Deen boys, Aaron McCargo and Rachel Ray for making "everyday people" recipes.

OMG If I hear "Y'ALL" one more time from Pat, I'm going to shot myself. It seems like there is a competition to see who can say "Y'all" more Pat Or Paul. We know you are from the South but plzzzz don't "Y'all" us to death to say "Look at me I'm a real live southern good ole boy cookin for Y'all". As for Gina, there isn't anything I can add that everyone on this blog haven't covered. Gina, Gina, Gina just act normal and stop showboating to make people love you. Stop with the "Give me some sugar". It makes you look like a child who was deprived of love from your parents.

The Neely's what can I say. They are the most annoying twosome I have ever had the misfortune to watch on TV. Pat is a suck up talking about his sweet brown sugar *vomit* and Gina what can I say about her, she needs to shut the hell up and then saying on the one episode that she didn't get a butt like she has from eating just seafood and then the crew has the gall to tune into her butt *nasty*. I watch Food Network for one reason and that is to enjoy the cooking and great recipes when watching The Neely's it's a light version of porn and it totally disgusts me.

As an african american male and a person who loves to cook i enjoy the show quite a bit. The thing that gets me though is at least the food network reached out to the two african american for a show. if thee weren't any of us on this network WE would cry fowl and send al and jesse in there to chsnge things for us. they masy not be the best but they are by far not the worst people on this newtwork and i certainly appreciate seeing peopleof color on this show. keep up the good work pat and gina. i'm a dedicated watcher and will continue to do so as long as they're on the air. we need to support our people of color and stop tearing them down!
