Symon Says

Michael Symon confirmed the announcement that he will replace Robert Irvine as the host of Dinner: Impossible on his official blog:

"As some of you may have read we made the announcement today that I will be taking over as host of Dinner Impossible. I am super stoked to take over this show as it is a proven format and I love a good challenge. To make it even more exciting DI will be going to a one hour format and I will have a bunch of my close friends as sous chefs, which should make the show very entertaining and fun."

Symon also announced that he will be opening a new restaurant in Detroit called Roast, focusing on "all that is meat," and featuring a wood fired rotisserie with suckling pigs, baby goats and spring lamb.

***************************

Wow... quite a day for Symon! I've never spent any time in Detroit, but I had a lovely layover at the Detroit airport this past December. Perhaps I'll have to make it a point to actually venture into the city once Roast opens.

Well at least we will get to see more of Symon, cause we was totally underutilized at Iron Chef.

As for the dismissal of Irvine, these hacks at Food Network disgust me to no end. Numb Nuts Tuschman is a two faced weasel that failed to do his job and is now taking it out on Irvine. I would love to slap that prick silly.

Brooke Johnson has no idea of what is going om most of the time as she is just a figurehead pres who ain't much use to mankind let alone the the Food world.

As for Symon, I guess now all of America is going to be familair with his very strange schoolgirl laugh.

smart alec: just curious... are you somehow affiliated with Food Network, Scripps Networks, or one of the parent companies? You seem to have a lot of animosity toward Bob Tuschman and other execs. How would you know about the decisions being made by Tuschman and Brooke Johnson and whether or not she's "just a figurehead pres" unless you were somehow connected?

Not having a culinary background, I enjoy Mike Symon and am glad to see him get another show. Agreed with Alec that he is very much underutilized on ICA. Being a fellow Ohioan is also another feather I put in Symon's cap.

Sad for Irvine, but that's what you get for being a shady bastard -- doesn't mean a shady bastard can't cook though.

Jake, you are getting warmer. Let's just say I have affiliations and know many people in the biz.

While I do not work with Scripps or FN directly, I certainly have colleagues working in TV that give me all sorts of goodies.

I think because this is television, just about anyone will put be under the microscope for a variety of reasons.

As for Bobby T, this whole fiasco with Irvine and how this was handled not only irks me, but many others as well.

Look at it. They used Irvine. Chef Robert told a couple of whoppers, and all of a sudden, FN turns into a sanctimony machine, making Irvine look like a complete fool.

If they had any stones, they would have supported him. Instead they take the easier route and try and paint him as a bad man.
A few skeletons fell out of his closet. So what? Did he lie to a grand jury ?

Even in TV circles, the loyalty factor is huge and this one won't be forgotten soon.

btw, many industry people also wonder why FN viewers tune into and watch personalities like Paula Deen and Guy Fee'Useless doing their drop and stir shows, and are amazed that people actually enjoy it. I think many feel as if these two, are examples of FN cramming them to us in hopes of increasing the demographics in areas that suck.

In addition, it is common knowledge that FN is a second tier "network" and that while it does show tremendous potential to become a mainstay in the lives of many Americans, this potential is being salted away and huge opportunities for advancement are being lost due to real suspect leadership.

Need anything more ?

Yeah. Sandra Lee. I cannot watch that show. I could at least take Paula in small doses.

I still think I am the only one that likes this show. I see nothing wrong with Gina Neely. I just laugh off a lot of the things she says. You can't please everyone.

bullsh!t... stupid move.

They gave that moron from HAM on the street 'Secret life of...' and now this???

FN is stupid. Nothing against Symon personally but he's not that good on TV. He was marginal on 'next iron chef' and I seriously doubt he could carry a show like D:I.

Bad move, very bad move

I always thought it was strange Symon, a buddy of Bourdain's, was allowed to compete and win the last FN Star when one of the judges, Ruhlman was also a buddy of Bourdain's. Conflict of interest? Something more insidious?

Bad move firing Irvine FN. The network is almost unwatchable. Another year from now they'll have to change the name to the Bobby Flay Network with all the shows he has and more being casted.
