Guess which prominent Food Network personality told the organizer of the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival that she needed a balcony to smoke on if she was to return next year?

You should definitely read this New York Times article on Lee Schrager--the man behind the South Beach festival and, now, the New York City Wine & Food Festival coming in October. (Alton will be there)
The Times also prints the email Lee wrote that was able to woo Giada De Laurentiis to the NYC festival:
"Tiffany’s will buy your newest book for each of the 100 guests and also present you with a very special gift, along the lines of a watch — I noted your Rose Gold Rolex is your casual day watch."
So kids, if you want Paula or Giada to show up to your event, just make sure you have 1) A balcony and 2) A present from Tiffany.

Wow ... I don't know a single chef that -doesn't- smoke. So get over yourselves.
What's the big deal about Paula Deen smoking ? Smoke police out again ? I detect a hint of " I'm better than you because I don't smoke, so stop, and join my side ".
If that is the only request she had made to ensure her appearance next year, I think that is quite fair.
I wonder what Princess Giada is asking for her return ? A separate floor at the Delano ? Private jet ?
I can't believe Lee Schrager needs to brown nose and bribe Princess Giada like this.

If you think Paula's teeth are stained, take a close look at Michael "Groove Her" Groover's beard! I thought Paula and Michael were quitting smoking...at least I thought she said that on one of her episodes.
And as for chefs/cooks being smokers: How can they taste anything?
It's not an "I'm better than you" vibe at all; it's a "you're a 61 year old woman who's about to emark upon a daily talkshow and will need to be able to speak... and be healthy enough to live through it" kind of vibe.

On the new shows of Paula's Party, filmed in New York, you can tell that she has had her teeth whiten. She even introduced her dentist on the last show.
I don't know how well her talk show will be received. Many people are growing to dislike her because of her dirty talking and very non lady like behavior. People only take this type of person for so long, then they disappear very fast.
Jacob, being that you have attended the Sobe Festival, can you please recommend some events to attend at the NYC festival? I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the options, but the only one that really interested me was the Grand Tasting. Would I be missing out on something?
I think the Grand Tasting is your best bet if you want the general festival experience and aren't majorly into wine tastings. At Sobe, buying the grand tasting got you in to all of the chef demos, too, which I assume will be the case for NYC.
The grand tasting tent was incredibly crowded in miami, but I still think it's worth it. I'm not sure what the projected turnout for NYC is, but I'm sure it'll be big too.
The unfortunate thing about this NY Times piece is that it's not like Giada wrote the e-mail TO Lee Shrager asking what she would get in return for hosting an event. The words as written to Giada were FROM Lee. So it's unfair to assume that the only reason Giada would accept the invitation is because of a watch. That actually seems really silly to be honest. How do any of us know what Giada's response was? Maybe she wasn't all that into it and told Lee she'd do it for him as a favor? Maybe she told him she didn't need a watch? I dunno, it just seems like Paula, Giada, Bobby, they're being unfairly judged, I think.
I think this Schrager fella got wind that he might have to grease

I'll say it again. This woman is starting to really think she is something. It's one thing to rise to the top when you come form humble beginnings, but Princess Giada has been a sponsored child all her life and thinks she is alot better than she actually is.

I think Smart Alec is being a douche-bag just because he's well... a douche-bag. None of us know (unless I'm missing something here, and I don't suppose that Smart Alec would be so biting if he did indeed know them and like them) Lee or Giada or what their friendship is so blanket judgements are just unfair. You can judge her food, her show. That stuff is fair game I think. But not her as person unless she's proven to be the person you say she is. Otherwise, blah blah blah...

Do you think good friends, or friends in general need to present lavish gifts in order for one to commit to ones event ? Gifts that may run $ 10,000 + ?
By the sounds of it, you might not have any friends, so I don't expect you to understand, but only people with superficial motives do shit like this. Give me break.
btw,I used to like her show until she turned into " I am the Future of Food" and her mouth grew 2 " across. Wonder how that happened ?

Just to name a few. Man, do Giada De Laurentiis' people get mad when you mention her smoking. You see, it's "supposed" to be a secret. More teeth whiteners for miss De Laurentiis, please!
So that's why Giada stays so skinny. Yes, I should have known. I was skinny too, until I stopped smoking 10 years ago.
As far as Rachael Ray, she says she doesn't smoke anymore.
Paula Deen, from what I've heard, is hateful to her fans. Apparently, she doesn't have "time" to acknowledge them, unless she's being grouchy at them.
They say her cigarettes are more important to her than the people that put her where she is.
Sad.
