Lisa Garza Speaks!

I can't confirm, as of yet, that this comment from my review post is from the real Lisa Garza, but it very well could be. I don't think someone would put this much effort into it, otherwise.

"Hello Bloggers,

It's Lisa Garza. The woman you don't even know but LOVE to hate.

First I will address the very ugly ugly attacks by your bloggers about my actual skills.

I have worked in the restaurant industry since the age of 16, in every single position.

Yes, I do own and opperate the restaurant with my husband, who is the executive chef, and I run our catering business. I have apprenticed under him in the kitchen since the age of 17. I have paid my dues.

What you don't get to see is that I made 4 recipes in 20 minutes and plated 10 plates without much help.

Second, my designer diva status-My niche in Dallas has become catering for detail oriented fashion clients such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Hererra, Barneys and so on. It is important for me to represent a certain style and maintain the utmost attention to every detail in order to get such accounts.I studied fine arts all through school and find that these skills are the same as food styling which is what fashion clients want most, that doesn't make me a snob, just a good business woman trying to hustle a buck in an industry that was killed after 911.

WARDROBE FYI- Most of my clothes are vintage, bought at Barneys 75% off sale, or thank you gifts from my clients. I'm just as happy in a gap t-shirt and jeans, which is what I wear in my interviews.

The 3 C's

COOKING EDUCATION= take the mystery out of fine dining, break it down and make it accesible.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH=any one who really knows me, knows this, I overcame a very difficult and abbusive childhood to be the strong ass woman I am today. I will never forget where I came from. I will never forget what it feels like to be hopeless and in need of love. I don't throw change at the homeless, I hug them, I love them and I feed them.I am sick to death of all these beautiful celebs eating up the attention and not addressing real issues. I don't think food TV does enough to educate the public on how hard we work to feed the hoeless, how many millions of dollars are raised because we donate our time, food, and service to charity events, sometimes, during the busiest time of our year.

The only reason I agreed to be on the show was because I want to use the attention and possible celeb status to promote my purpose for living, to feed the homeless, care for impoverished children and make a damn difference in this shitty ass selfish world. I give a large ammount of my personal income to an organization that feeds and cares for impoverished children. Divas have hearts too, big ones.

CULINARY CRAFTS= how to's for building a buffet table, home made gifts, arts and crafts that relate to cooking in some way. I want a Martha Stewart type show where I can show the public how to get high dollar presentation on a budget.

A lot of this is edited to look the way it does. You are not getting the whole story yet. If you want to see who I am then go to facebook, I am an open book."

Kudos to her for speaking up, but if you're gonna combat the bloggers and critics everything they judge you, you've got a loonnnnggg road ahead of you. Proof is in the pudding, not in the pleas for understanding.

Ah ok..since when do you have to have "celeb status" to be charitable..that's a load of poo poo poo!! Paid your dues?? Uh no..don't think so..as for cooking and arts...your food looks bad..you don't seem to have your heart in it. I think you are going about this the wrong way. You are a pretty lady, but that does not sell me on you. Same ol, same ol, with a nice strand of pearls..big whoop!

I didn't see the show, and it's certainly true that the editors can selectively manipulate the viewer's perceptions of particular people, so I didn't have an opinion before reading this... but am I correct in understanding that this reply is supposed to make her NOT sound like an arrogant snob? Um, I don't think it's working.

Can't imagine where I got the idea she was a diva. Her post doesn't contradict that at all (smirk).

At 6/03/2008 1:04 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with Lisa. It is easier to promote your causes when you have the celeb status to back it up- PETA uses celebs in many of their ads now to get the word out- AND IT DOES! Does that make their cause less worthy? Besides that, I know Lisa Garza personally, and she really does care about the things she is saying and she does "walk the walk". You can't hate her for looking good while doing it!

She may be an awesome chef and all that stuff.

But she's spoiled the illusion of dispassionate logic that defines Vulcans. She's just a rotten Vulcan.

She'll have to wow me now with her awesome cooking now that my trek-fantasy is ruined! Ruined!

;)

I am sure that being publicly bashed is quite difficult. Lisa's response has made me consider being softer on her. However, I do believe a better balance between humility and pride needs to be struck. It is possible to be proud of your accomplishments, yet take it down a few notches and be a bit more humble. That doesn't require taking a backseat to any one. Take for example Alton Brown. I feel he is quite accomplished, realizes he's smart, but flaunts it over no one.

Lisa, it is true you have prove yourself but there are many ways to do this. I don't know what I'd do in your situation, how I'd strike that balance. To be quite honest, in your situation I imagine it's quite hard to not feel it necessary to fight and claw every step of the way and throw your accomplishments out there for all to see.

You should be proud of your accomplishments, as well as the obstacles you have over-come. You are pretty, just so harsh. I actually feel bad for being so very critical of you, especially of any physical traits, it's not right. I certainly wouldn't want someone to be that harsh towards me and I extend an apology (if you're reading this).

Thanks for your feedback, Lisa.

Such bitterness, Lisa.

Frankly, I was not impressed with any of the contestants in this years' competition and was not necessarily planning to watch all the episodes. But now I have to, to see if you soften any or any other personalities shine through. Also I am anxious to find if Jacob's prediction that the 'b' stays in for a while holds true.

True compassion is rarely heralded by those who provide it. Those who herald it without having yet done it come off looking phony. Perhaps that's your problem.

Good luck!

The type of adversarialism and hostility Lisa puts up is that of of person with juvenile tendencies
and her first reaction is to lash out. I am sure she has her share of people she has peaked on. People like this are on edge pretty much all the time and develop ulcers.

I love Lisa! Great to see someone on the show who has a sense of style. People mistake style for being a snob, or being expensive, etc. She appeals to the anti-rachael ray crowd! I think she's great - don't know why there are so many haters (jealousy?)

Is this the original Lisa Garza? The image below is from an old website of "Suze", Lisa and Gilbert Garza's restaurant in Dallas. She's apparently had quite the makeover!

Lisa, perhaps you could relax a little if you had that very large stick up your ass removed. You are a plastic, self-involved phony. I don't care how much editing is involved in NFNWS--you cannot pull "douchebag" out of thin air. You obviously have no self image or self esteem, so you hide behind those horrible sunglasses and designer clothes. What kind of idiot wears higheels in a kitchen?? And you wonder why no one likes you.

I am a big fan of Lisa from just the TV show.

Her hair, clothing, and style is indicative of individuality, independence, creativity, and attention to detail. If her food is even half as perfect as her style, she deserves to win.

Within arts, music and theatre scenes Lisa would not be looked down upon for being either snobbish, nor plastic and definitely would not see her as a diva.

Perhaps Food Network has focussed the editing upon portraying her as artistic people are often portrayed on TV? How many people have seen sitcoms make fun of artists by portraying them as either strange or snobbish?

Her smile and the way she crinkles her eyes shows someone with a kind heart, and her demeanour shows a beautiful soul.

If I could say something to Lisa - I would tell her not to listen to the close minded people. Just like in high school some people want to kick you for being unique. To be a star, you have to shine brighter than most, and you GLOW! None of the rest have anything unique enough about them to make me want to watch them.

Eh, I still like her. I wonder, why would she even care about what people say online. They're just the type of spineless creatures that doesn't & will never have what it takes to say anything publicly. Why even bother with these shrews.

LISA is GREAT! She is able to do a messy job with style and class, and even when she literally fell on her butt she got right back up and introduced herself with grace and dignity. I am definitely pulling for Mrs. Garza the whole way, and since I too am from Dallas I plan on finally getting to taste her talents at "Suze".

It is very easy for you people to sit behind your keyboards and cut her down to size, but I do not see any of you having the guts, skills, or culinary expertise to accomplish what all Lisa has. I wish her the best of luck and victory in all her battles.

What kind of person wears high heels in the kitchen and expensive clothes? It is a WORK environment, not a social environment. Watch TOP Chef, they have their chef smocks on with "sensible" shoes. Hey Lisa, we DO NOT care how much your shirt costs...get some cheap tennis shoes, you won't fall again.

At 7/14/2008 1:27 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am a little surprised by the complete lack of eloquence by the self-proclaimed diva, particularly considering her vehement assertion of catering to a high-end clientèle.

I do think that the spelling issue is a problem as this is not a discussion in a chat room, but rather, a very pointed response to some pretty significant criticism. But the continued coarseness in her written statement is something that is you would expect from a high school MySpace page - not a person in the spotlight hoping to promote any kind of self-advancing cause, much less a philanthropic cause.

I would say that Lisa might want to invest in a basic English class, or have her "PR" person proofread stuff before that is circulated for public viewing and consumption.

I originally logged onto this site to learn more about Lisa and much to my surprise I happen onto this rude and, frankly, despicable stream of blogging. You are mocking her clothes, her eyes, her hair, her personality, her shoes, anything you can get your disgusting little hands on.Oh and when someone leaves a NICE comment about her you attack them too?It takes a real coward to sling mud online. Perhaps before you criticize Mrs.Garza so harshly you would like to tell me just how many times you have been on a television competition where all your hopes and dreams hung in the balance? It is pathetic to say some of the things some of you have said.Seriously, if you hate her so much quit watching, otherwise try out some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

At 7/14/2008 5:24 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

By agreeing to be on the show, Lisa has voluntarily subjected herself to comments and criticisms for good, bad or ugly. If you can't stand the heat, don't go on reality shows.

At 7/14/2008 11:12 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Seriously. You guys really are heartless and pathetic. If you don't know her, how can you possibly be sooo quick to judge, and to judge soo viciously and ruthlessly? If she chooses to wear high heels in the kitchen, so be it. Maybe SHE feels comfortable that way. And perhaps it is NOT her choice, perhaps it is a choice by the production team. It is a highly-edited and polished reality show, after all, much as I may enjoy it.

Lisa if you read this, stay strong. If FN lets you go they will definately regret it. Your fans will follow you when you move on to other food chanels and publications.

I hope you win and get a show, if you don't they will probablly put another STUPID Dean show on. Trust me the world would much rather watch someon fresh and new.

Keep in mind that all of us that entertain or host an event/party want everything to be perfect down to the last little detail. We pride ourselves in the way our food is presented, our table is set and the way we look and greet our guests. Boy, I know when I am in the kitchen getting things ready for family and friends, I'm rushing around and have that same intense feeling. Lisa Garza's intensity is really a personality that works hard on creating perfection and beauty in all details. I think more people should look at her as an example. It is too easy for us to just throw on jeans and a t-shirt or throw burgers on a grill. Why shouldn't she set herself to higher standards... we all should.

I THINK SHE LOST US ALL AT HER BELIEVABILITY WHEN SHE WAS WEARING HIGH HEELS IN THE KITCHEN. COME ON YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY? TAKE OFF THE DAMN HEELS AND STOP SQUINTING AT THE CAMERA YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ARE STRUGGLING TO SEE. YOU DO COME OFF LIKE A SNOB NOT A CONFIDENT WOMAN LIKE YOU MAY THINK. THERE IS CONFIDENT AND ARROGANT. YOU ARE THE LATTER OF THEM TWO AND IT'S NOT A VERY BECOMING TRAIT.

I've said it before and I'll say it again..... Lisa went into this show knowing EXACTLY what she was doing. At first.... couldn't stand her and thought that if she wasn't kicked off soon, I'd stop watching the show. Then well........ like a fungus :-)) she just grew on me!! She knew her "look" her "clothes" her "attitude" were all apart of the "PLAN". Who do you remember of all the shows past has made this much impact good or bad? Had so many comments made about her? She is a smart woman and TRUST me when I tell you, she is sitting back just smiiiiling!!

Lisa,

I think you have it going on...you come up with some great concepts and quickly bring them to life. I think it's great that you have your own sense of fashion, and guess what, it works. Your voice when introducing the Vegas buffet blew me away. If the FN gig does not work out, you could probably make millions singing...that's pure soul I heard tonight. Keep rockin and forget all the haters, you got it going on in the kitchen, in the music, and obviously in life.

All I have to say is, Lisa ROCKS. You have class, you are genuine and I can tell you have true passion about everything you do. My husband and I really enjoyed watching what you had to share on the show. We look forward to seeing more of you, even though you didn't receive a show on the Food Network (you even showed your class by being so happy for Aaron). Thanks for who you are and what you do. You know you need not worry about people that have nothing better to do than to post crap about others on the internet. They are obviously watching too much television and trying to become famous for bringing down others. I say to them, find something better to do and get a life. We love you, Lisa, here in Missouri.

You have a star quality about you that I won't soon forget. You will go on to do amazing things and I know we haven't seen the last of you. You were the main reason I watched the show. You are magnetic! Good luck to you and I look forward to the next time I see you on TV, which I know will be very soon. ~Lisa from Seattle

Attention to detail with your food and dress, but not with your spelling? There were a few more typo's but I'll leave it at that.
