Food Detectives Gets Second Season

Food Network's Food Detectives, hosted by Ted Allen, is getting a second season.

"[Food Detectives] launched in July to very good ratings and we’ll be shooting our second season in December," Ted tells the Gay & Lesbian Times.

I HATE to say this, but I'm kind of surprised it's getting renewed. I had the pleasure of meeting Ted this past February in Miami and, later, interviewing him over the summer; he's a great guy and wonderful TV talent. I just don't think this show is the best fit for him.

Not sure if it's a personal choice, but Ted's delivery style sounds strangely robotic. I know he doesn't really speak all choppy like that, sooooooo... why do it on the show?

I agree - love the guy but hate the show.

Ditto.

I guess a renewal is better than having to come up with content to fill a time slot.

Can we all hope the show gets retooled ie. better?

Agreed, he needs to dial down the robotic-perky and crank up the sardonic wit we know and love.

But, Jeebus, I'll take another season over more repeats of "Food Network Challenge."

I can't believe this show got picked up. Ted, please just act normally. The concept has potential, maybe they can retool it somehow.

I liked him better when he was a member of the fab 5- queer eye dudes-- why don't they bring that show back....????

ted is annoying
he needs to not be on any shows

I never saw an entire episode but did catch a couple of segments that I found provided interesting info but I don't think I could watch an entire episode. Like others, his robotic manner is annoying, and that's understating it!

I agree Turtle. Food Netork Challenge every night is killing me.

I noticed he wasn't listed as a judge for Top Chef 5 New York which starts on Wednesday. Can't wait!! They list a new judge. His name is Toby Young (food critic/author).

Ted Allen hmmm... lets see.Not sure what made this guy an expert in the first place. Oh wait. He made himself an expert.

Show is so bad, it might go down as a HAll of Fame stinker

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ted working at Starbucks to make rent. I bet he can be a good barista.

if you go to Ted's blog on tedallen-dot-net, you'll read that he has brought in new staff and has retooled the show. Also that his jump to Food Network is the reason he left Top Chef and Bravo. He's a great guy--give Detectives another shot!

Ted's quirky but loveable. My 12 y.o. daughter loves Detectives - almost as much as Mythbusters, lol. I'm wishin' Ted the best ....

Lana is onto something here. His show ain't that bad. I just don't think that many adults like it.

Hey Ted,if you are listening. Take the concept and sell it to another network. You know a real network that will make you some decent coin and not be chained to in servitude like FN asks of guys like you.

Look forward to an adult show from you Ted.

Agreed. Love Ted. Can't stand the show. It really is a bit juvenile.

Agree with several here. Can't stand Ted. Not sure why he is presumed to be an expert on anything. He judged on ICA and was the foodie on Queer Eye and now he is an expert...? It is a total rip off of mythbusters, but with food. This should have been an Alton Brown show, someone who knows food. I would rather watch Rachael Ray in surround sound... yikes.

Well, I'm witholding judgement until we see the new and improved version. I hope the first thing they do is get rid of the bloody teleprompter--Ted does much better ad lib than reading off a screen. Even now, it's not my favorite show on FN but it's *far* from the worst.

Also, it's the first time he's had to support a show on his own--with QE and his various reality judge stints he was one of an ensemble. He seems to be getting more comfy with the host role as the season goes on, so maybe it'll work out...

Not only the worst show on FN, but maybe one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Completely unwatchable, IMHO.

Ted is a great guy and I really like him a lot, but this show is not for him. He needs to be doing something like out interviewing food movers and shakers, sharing recipes, or doing "food makeovers" ala Queer Eye or something.

This show is just a really REALLY bad fourth rate Good Eats on some level, I guess.

I agree. This show sucks so bad.

Definitely a candidate for Bourdain's Golden Clog Awards in the Rocco category for bad career moves.

Oh Ted, you are such a sucker.

This show is great if you are 10 years old. But not if you aren't. Watched part of 1 show and that was all I could take. Liked Ted better on the top chef.

He needs to do a food and wine show. Travel and try some winerys. A new one every week. Not hard, since there are 5000 just in Napa.
That is his forte.
