Kelsey Nixon Getting Food Network Show

Shocker!

Kelsey Nixon
, season 4 contestant on The Next Food Network Star, is getting her own Food Network show on a new Food Network Web site called F2, set to launch in January. The Provo Utah native is on the cover of Utah Valley magazine this month and talks all about the new show.

"I've been approached by so many production companies, but I think Food Network is the route I should go. It's the brand that most matches who I am. I'm working on a project with them right now—a web show about teaching cooking basics. They're launching a Web site called F2, targeted to 20-somethings for food and drink."

Ah ha! So that's what you've been up to, Kelsey! I'll have you dear FNAddict readers know that I heard a rumor about her getting a show on this new website a long time ago, but I was a good boy and kept my mouth shut until I saw something definite. Hmm... would anyone have cared if I had said something earlier?

Here's something I didn't know about the show, certain to delight (or anger) Top Chef fans:
"My co-host on the show is Spike Mendelsohn from "Top Chef" and we have a great time. I'm the one to do by-the-book classic methods, and he uses crazy ingredients from all over the world."

Veeerrrry interesting. So Aaron McCargo got a show. Adam Gertler supposedly has a show (we'll see about that), and now Kelsey. Guess Lisa Garza's will be announced next week? Maybe a Christmas special starring her and Sandra Lee?

One can hope.

I haven't always been all that optimistic about Kelsey, but I wish her the best. She got what she wanted... kind of (it is still a Web show). Let's see if this "innate passion" really shines through!
[Thanks Jacqueline for sending!]

OMG! OMG!!! I'M FIRST - I'M FIRST! I really hope this show of hers DOES NOT LAST. She's a Rachael Ray wannabe - there is only room FOR ONE RR! I think WE ONLY WANT ONE RR!!! LOL LOL LOL !!!!!

Can we get off the "Food Basics" shit on FN? More like "dumbed down".

Wow. All the Kelsey fans can rejoice! She made it, she made it. lol. Seriously, maybe they'll finally calm down and breathe again -- they were mighty pissed when she lost.

But how funny is this? Even fans of the show agreed this was a really lackluster crop of contestants -- and what happens? FN hires all of them! The only person who actually came off as semi-interesting -- Shane -- is nowhere to be found. Give that guy a show.

So I guess Bob and Susie didn't know what the hell they were talking about when they said Adam and Kelsey didn't have what it takes.

Is the pool of talent so small that they have to hire the runners-up from their own reality TV shows?

No doubt Lisa is regretting going out with a blaze of glory, burning down FN on her way out the door.

That interview is definitely worth checking out. Kelsey already had a cooking show and shot over 100 episodes. How exactly was this never mentioned on the show? It's kind of funny that Bob thought she was so inexperienced because she just graduated from culinary school, but in fact had more experience cooking in front of a camera than any of them. This is why you don't prejudge people, Bobby.

Gag me with a spoon. Least I won't be forced to look at commericals for her show as it is on the web. And i hardly ever go there anymore. I'll bet all those narrow minded Uthan's are happy that there mormon girl got the gig.

Spike Mendelsohn is going to walk away being the bigger star, you wait and see.

Dude knows how to cook. Appeals to young hipsters, isn't bad looking.

And I thought Tuschman was asleep at the wheel.

Good score Bob.

I think she was adorable !!! Yes, she has got the innocence of Rachael Ray 8 years ago- I wish her luck and will look foward in seeing her show- She is better then some of the new ones on FN these days- PLEEZZZZEEEEEEEEE! But she will never be Rach!

Remember seeing a video on FN where Bob T & other FN types were sitting around and did a promo for her Red Lobster gig ( FNS cahllange she won) and they had conference call while they tasted the revamped (by red lobster) dish she created. Bob said his entire family almost disowned him when she was eliminated fron FNC. Also, to top it off he said he had a wedding photo of her in his office at FN. At the end of the call he said she had a future career in"Food". I guess the FN was in the works then on promoting her. Sink or swim her audience will determine.

Kelsey makes me a little crazy but good for her on getting the show.

Lisa Garza definitely burned her bridges with FN.

As for "food basics," isn't every show on FN dumbed down to appeal to "the home cook." I just heard Giada just say that when onions cook down, "they actually get sweet." Duh. Thanks for letting us in on that insider culinary knowledge, Giada. Can I go back to looking at your cleavage now?

She is not a Provo native, she is from North Ogden, Utah. She went to school in Provo.

I liked Kelsey, and I've come to appreciate Spike (for his real life self, not the twatwaffle he was on the show). But they seem horribly mismatched.

I wonder if Spike tried caramelize Kelsey's onions.

What is the point of that show if you are a loser and get a show anyway? FN is getting lame.

Sorry, guys, the LAST thing I want to read about is Rachael teaching me how to do ANYTHING kosher. I'll ask my grandmother first. Blech.

At 11/15/2008 8:58 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with anon 7:44 am. Oh my, oh my - RR is definely NOT on my "A" list for cooking geniuses or teachers for that matter. The thought of her cooking anything kosher makes me tremble with trepidation. Do you think she teamed up with Aunt Sandy to come up with kosher shortcuts?

Hey, because of her LSD, I mean LDS background, there won't be cocktail time like Aunt Sandy!!

I like Kelsey and pray that she NEVER becomes anything like RR (cause I cannot stand RR) ...

They should've done the show with Kelsey and Shane ... I don't know who that Spike guy is ... The only Spike I know are Snoopy's brother & the vampire from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ...

It's sad that people are judging Kelsey based on HOW FogleTusch had the show (TNFNS4) edited ... Tusch was totally brow-beating Kelsey (throughout the show) about her saying she'd just gotten out of culinary school, but after the finale aired he was totally in love with her & wished she was his daughter ...

Re: Giada & the onions ... I have a friend that watches FN and he didn't know that onions can get sweeter when cooked ... So, there are a LOT of people who watch the network and do NOT know "cooking basics 101" ...

My complaint is that every show on FN seems like a basic cooking course for the home chef. How about a few advanced or even just intermediate shows?

Watch PBS - that is where the real cooking shows are these days for anyone above the "how do you fry an egg" level of culinary sophistication.

If you want mindless "Foodertainment" watch FN. If you really want to learn cooking technique, PBS is the only place to go (and no commericals for Fridays with Tater Tot's grease pie every 10 mins to boot!)

An advanced / intermediate show would be great. After watching FN for a few years now, I have learned quite a bit and ready to move on.

I think Secrets of a Restaurant Chef has potential. I think the issue is... FN has what appears to be a 3 dish minimum per show which limits the steps in any recipe.

Giving all these ousted contestants their own shows just proves how totally amateur the FN really is.

What's next ? Nipa and Jeffrey Vaden doing a pilot ?

Go back to community cable Tuschman you wanker.

I enjoy Kelsey's personality BECAUSE she is genuine, young, yes, apple pie, prehaps. But I remember watching all the exit interviews and Kelsey had so much class and kindness. She genuinely loves cooking and friends. She wouldn't use her designer shoes to step over anyone who got in her way(if you know who i mean).
Yes, I wish her the best!

ooh spike is hot. i'll watch his show, even if it's just a web thing. i guess i'll just mute it when kelsey speaks.

Where's Rory? LOL.

I like Shane and Kelsey better than that annoying Patrick from Top Chef.

Thank God there is only one RR. Kelsey is a way better cook that's for sure.

Is it just me or is FN having trouble finding chefs to do shows???? They keep trying all these AWFUL wanna be chefs. There are so MANY GREAT CHEFS who would love to be on FN.

These people just won't go away

What about Adam's upcoming show called..."Will Work for Food"?

That looks so stupid

Maybe Marvin from RR Can you cook contest will get his own show too. He was on Big Brother ya know...

I agree FN show's have lost all their spark. They have gotten into something that that they can't get out of.

If you want really good cooking shows yep PBS is the way to go. They have alot of the original FN chefs on now. NO COMMERCIALS!!!!
