Gift Idea: Food Network Studios Tour

Bob Tuschman's trying to make a quick $2,400 me thinks.

Just kidding.

Read on:

For the first time ever, Food Network will allow members of the general public to purchase tickets for exclusive, behind-the-scenes tours of the Food Network Studios. Tour attendees will see the studio where stars like Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri film 30 Minute Meals and Guy’s Big Bite. Fans of Iron Chef America will learn the secrets of hallowed Kitchen Stadium. And the doors to the Food Network Kitchens will be opened to allow fans to see where the network’s recipes are developed and tested. Along the way, veteran tour guide and network employee Joe Moseley will provide attendees with the history of Food Network and the Chelsea Market building.

Tours will last approximately 45 minutes and will be limited to a maximum of 15 attendees. Tickets are $20 each and will be held on the following days and times:

Wednesday, December 17th @ 10am

Thursday, December 18th @ 10am

Tuesday, January 6th @ 12pm

Wednesday, January 7th @ 12pm

Thursday, January 8th @ 2pm

Tuesday January 13th @ 2pm

Wednesday, January 14th @ 10am

Thursday, January 15th @ 12pm

To purchase tickets, interested parties are encouraged to call the Food Network Tour Ticket Hotline at (646-336-3736) or visit the Food Network Shop at Chelsea Market Baskets. Chelsea Market Baskets is located inside Chelsea Market at 75 Ninth Avenue, between 15th and 16th Streets, in Manhattan.

I'd like to go. I've been to the building and in some of the offices, but never to the studios or test kitchens. Don't know if I'll be in NYC on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, though. Hmm...

That's so cool! Are the tours just for the winter, or are they going to be a regular thing?

I'm not anti-tours (which some people are, because of their tourist-y kind of feel) but this sounds a little lame. What exactly will you get out of seeing where Guy films his show? If they actually gave you what they were working on in the test kitchen, that would be one thing. But I'm not sure I'm into wandering around a set and hearing "And this is where Tyler Florence chops up onions..."

I wanna see where Guy puts on his sweatbands and man rings.

If there was any justice in the world, Guy would be a food network tour guide and not the focus of the entire network.

Did I mention I hate Guy, and his ass face?

UGH, one little mention of Guy and people jump at the chance to make such vile comments . GET A LIFE! Anyway I hope they'll schedule some more tour dates at some point because I'm moving to Virginia in February and would love to make a trip to NY to do this!

Oh man, I definitely want to go! I am going to start looking for a plane ticket. =) You should go, Jacob!

Oh Jacob, I'd suggest going on the tour, if you're in the area. My girlfriends and I learned so much! And had a really great time when we took a tour in October. Joe Moseley is really terrific, incredibly kind, thoughtful, friendly, smart and a great tour guide.

Joe is also the guy who schedules studio time. There are two studios, big studio A and little studio B. I didn't get any video of the small studio, but I did get some of the large one.

I also have video of the food network kitchens part of the tour - just haven't converted the format nor uploaded it yet. Maybe later this week ....

If you like, you can check out what I have by clicking on my name here and following the link.

Tours are now sold out but Food Network hopes to resume them on a regular basis in 2009:

I think charging the public for tours is pretty bogus, unless they really need the cash.
