Sandra Lee Speaks at Share Our Strength Event

Sandra Lee is a spokesperson for Share Our Strength and the Great American Bake Sale, the non-profit org dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America. Even though this speech was given a few months ago, I thought I'd post it since it was just uploaded and has a lot of great Sandra moments.

She speaks highly of her co-spokesman Duff Goldman, plugs her Halloween show, and even gets a bit choked up when she remembers paying for grocery with food stamps.

Some of my favorite quotes:
(talking about a drink recipe) "And a little buzz... which I haven't had today, yet. But as soon as I get on that plane...!"

"I don't birth babies, I birth books."

"My other brother, who is gay and has a great partner, he's marrying a doctor! And they have dogs, so it's all good."

"Maybe we should do 'Cocktails for a Cause.' When you get these ladies a little liquored up, they pull out their pocketbooks!"

Hahaha... I'm glad Sandra doesn't compromise her style, even when speaking at an event such as this. Good work, Aunt Sandy; it's a great organization to be a part of!

Well, that took all the fun out of picking on her, didn't it?

I can't stand "Semi Homemade"; not even her Halloween shows. But here, she was poised, articulate and convincing. I was moved to hear her speak of her childhood.

Now if she would just channel her passion for feeding children into feeding them nutritionally rather than pushing sodium, high fructose corn syrup, and chemical-laden convenience foods!

She is using her celebrity to aid a very good cause and doing a credible job because of her upbringing. She appears very selfless and genuine.

Looks good on her. Maybe Giada should take notice .

That's the day I met her! Her Emmy nominated hair was unwashed, her sweater needed dry cleaning, and that skirt was shedding beads at an alarming rate.

She's a hot mess.

To anon @ 1:53, haven't you seen the commercials that high fructose corn syrup really isn't bad for you? LOL...ummm....yeah when I saw her at a recent signing, she was very genuine and down-to-earth. I too don't really care that much for her FN show but her signing was one of the best ones I've been too. It was intimate, about 100 people, and she took time to talk with you one on one, pose for pics, and talked quite a bit of that she spoke of in this clip. Not knowing her, going by her tv persona, she appears as if she were born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Who knew!? Thanks for posting this clip Jacob!

She heated up Hormel Beef Tips along with a side o' Country Crock mashed potatoes today. She nuked it all in the microwave, tossing in some chopped basil for the "homemade" part. And vodka. Lotsa vodka. She should write a new cook book: The Smirnoff Diet. I like her, though. For some perverse reason, I like her.

I suppose she's attractive to straight guys, but as a lesbian, I'll take the adorable Ellie Krieger any day.

Off topic: Giada will be on Oprah tomorrow (12/5)! :)

I think Ellie is the only legit hot woman on the entire network. (Unless someone is slipping my mind at the moment.) RR and Giada get all the attention, but Ellie is a true beauty.

Sometimes my cold, black heart feels a little sympathy for Sandra. Maybe it's just me, but she seems blindly unaware of how people feel about her.

She may not be much of a cook, but she seems like a nice, charitable person -- so there are worse things in the world...

I am so impressed with her! I am sure it is hard to bear your soul in front of an audience, but she was really eloquent. I've never been a fan of Sandra's show and recipes, but now I am intrigued by her. She is more philanthropic than I ever would have imagined.

Straight males will lust after the adorable Ellie Krieger as they would Aunt Sandy too.

Both bring different things to the table.

There's room for Ina and there's room for Sandra on FN. While Sandra may not offer finer or even healthy dining fare, she puts on no pretenses that she does. Some nights I cook like Sandra, toss in some fresh fruits and veggies, and some nights I go the "Ina mile". For people who are new to cooking, at least Sandra offers a starting point. Hopefully if they stick with it, they may migrate to something more along the lines of Ina or even Ellie, but everyone has to start somewhere. Even with her frozen veggies, Sandra is often better than a constant diet of the local drive-thru. Her meals may not be ideal, but they at least get people in the kitchen and that is the whole point. :D

Live and let live..I used to despise Aunt Sandy, now I watch her for entertainment and cocktail time! I'd love to hang out with her, she seems pretty damn awesome to me!

I screw the table to bed with both LOL, or on the table what a tablescape.

You have to have seen the chefography episode on our aunt sandy life was not what you would call a bed of roses for her.

Now who out there hasn't doctored up a store bought meal. Lately, alot of the FN chefs have recommend that store bought roast chicken.

What a great event. I was totally impressed with her story. I had no idea Sandra and her family had been through so much. She really is a self made woman and took a basic idea and made it her own.

Sandra's nice, but please let the elbows out. Not sure if that's the way proper women are suppose carry themselves.
It just bugs me when I see the elbows tucked into her sides while she cooks.
Will someone please enlighten me?

I was at this event, and let's just say, girlfriend has taken some acting classes. She was definitely buzzed (you could smell it), and she had to take off her shoes to walk on the stage during her "speech" because she couldn't walk a straight line in heels if she tried.

Tragic.

The Cuomo family must be so proud to add yet another trainwreck to the family.
