Coming to Food Network Addict: HD Screengrabs
My oh my, I am a happy blogger. Why, you ask? Because I finally stepped into the 21st century and got a TiVo HD.
Just look at the clarity to this classic Rachael facial expression:
You can't get that in regular def. I am certainly excited.
It was quite a process getting screengrabs before. I could record shows on my other computer since it had a cable card (not sure what the real term is), but it was getting old and slowing down the computer with the huge file sizes.
Also, that computer is in a room that doesn't have a cable jack, so anytime I wanted to record something I'd have this jury rigged long cable-down-the-hallway situation that started getting annoying. Plus, the quality was just really poor and I stopped wanting to use the pics that would result. When Redlasso came around I was in love and used that service a lot, but unfortunately that didn't last long. I'm still mourning its loss.
Anyhow, things are looking up around here. These Food Network stars better be touching up their makeup, 'cuz I'll be posting you in HD from now on!

How are you getting the screengrabs? Everything that isn't from an OTA broadcast is copy protected by my cable provider and I can't get the file from my TivoHD to my PC, and thus can't do captures. Am I missing some other way to do it?
Hmm... not sure. Mine do not seem to be copy-protected. Sorry I can't be much more help.
Uhhhhh....better be real careful about what you copy and post.
That news makes your previous caps even more impressive. Especially the Aunt Sandy sloshed pic that made it into your 2008 recap..
Technically the cable provider is only supposed to copy protect if the content provider has explictly requested copy protection as part of the carriage agreement. That generally means the pay services (HBO, etc.). But many cable providers copy protect everything non-OTA, you can't find anyone at the cable company who even understands the subject to argue with them, and the FCC doesn't care unless it is OTA. So it looks like I'm still out of luck. Oh well, at least the captures here will look nice.
Jacob,
Belive it or not cosmetic companys have developed special makeup for HDTV. Most of the news anchors use it so they appear more natural looking.
This is why my husband takes care of all the electronic/technical stuff because I have very little idea what we are talking about! lol. I know I do love DVR and HD. "Good Eats" in HD is fabulous!! :)
Christine :)
I'm not surprised about the new makeup options. When HD first came out, everyone on the news looked crazily done up.
Ina looks amazing in High Def. I'm not sure why I'm that surprised, maybe because she's one of the not-generically-Hollywood- glamorous hosts, but she looks amazing. Great bone structure, great skin. Don't know if it's the high def make-up, but she's radiant.
And no, this isn't Jeffrey.
I want TIVO!
Why do you have to pick on Rach with your dumb ass picture , ass wipe!
Dave Lieberman in HD? Oy.
