Chef Sandra Lee Wants You to Eat some Kentucky Grilled Chicken

If Sandra Lee had a show on Discovery Health about how to apply band-aids and unroll Ace bandages would she get featured in commercials as "Dr. Sandra Lee"?

As many of you've seen, "Chef Sandra Lee" is featured in the big KFC marketing campaign out now for its "Kentucky Grilled Chicken" brand, asking you to unthink what you thought about KFC. In addition to setting up the oh-so-modern Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace pages, KFC is giving away a piece of this grilled chicken for free tomorrow, April 27.

I know some people get very upset about chef being used in what they believe to be unwarranted circumstances. The funny thing about this whole "Chef Sandra Lee" thing is that I don't even think Aunt Sandy herself would say she's a chef!

I have a feeling this anointment was the result of a marketing person thinking the smart idea would be to call her a chef, but when you're going to KFC are you really thinking about the "chef" making that chicken? How often have you sent compliments to the chef after downing a 10-piece bucket?

There are a few KFCs in the DC area. I don't think I'll make any effort to get my hands all greased up by Chef Sandy's chicken, but if you do... let me know.

Oddly enough, my son just got a job at kfc today. He starts training tomorrow.

I dunno about the whole "chef" thingy - not sure if it's a job title or an honorific. But whatever it is, Aunty Sandy ain't one of 'em. Bless her anyway ....

There are, however, "real chefs" who develop recipes for national food chains, in some corporate headquarters somewhere.

I'm curious about a deeper question - just because someone does TV shows for the Food Network, does that mean they represent the Food Network in any and all endorsements?

TGIF and FN already got in bed together on the URS shows - with a very large financial exchange to make that happen. By that, I'm assuming that FN has put their 'stamp of approval' on TGIF as a worthy and honorable food establishment.

Is the same thing happening here with KFC? Is Burger King next? McD's? Denny's?

Maybe all "Chef Aunt Sandy" did was suggest a packet of grill seasonings?

@ GirlygirlJen: LOL!!!!!!!!

I have actually heard this grilled chicken is quite delicious. I mean, it isn't going to be four-star restaurant good, but it is allegedly miles above most fast food.

Putting the label of chef on her is just plain wrong.

Maybe you can reclassify some of these FN personalities like Giada, Guy Fee-Eddy, Aunt Sandy etc.... to being Food Network "chefs" so people will know the difference.

FN chefs = do not have to graduate from recognizeed or accredited culinary school.

Calling her a chef in any article is a slap in the face to "real" chefs. This is quite a perfect pairing as both KFC and SL produce crap food.

I had a piece today with some co-workers and while it is miles above their normal fare, it was dry and rather bland. I think it was better than eating their fried chicken though, with that yellow, gunky layer under the skin...blech! However, I have avoided KFC like the plague cuz it stands for "Kentucky Fried Cruelty" in the way they handle their chickens! Stand up for the chickens! Go P!nk!
