Pat & Gina Neely Take on L.A.

Did anyone go down to the Costco in Inglewood tonight and see Pat & Gina Neely? The Memphis duo have been on a book tour and chronicling their adventures on Twitter, which included a welcome earthquake from the city of Los Angeles. I guess L.A. just gets all rumbled up when all of Gina's sugar is present!

I know, I know!! Simply to repulse me!

Gina Neely is the black version of Paula Deen , and she's fast becoming just as obnoxious...

They're not that bad.

They make me puke. I would like to stuff her through a sausage machine.

A book signing at Costco very classy.

I think Paula's teaching them tricks !

Both shows are produced by Gordon Elliot -- I think that is where the trouble lies.

Christine ;)

I just don't think they have anything to contribute culinarily.

I guess it boils down to being an equal opportunity thing then.

The intro to the piece was a montage of some of the moments that drive me up a wall about their show. And then, during the demo everyone talked at once. I know that all cooking segments are rushed but that was a little ridiculous!

From their Twitter page:
"the_neelys is using Twitter."

Did you manage to matriculate from high school Gina ? And who gives a shit what you or your husband do or say ? How was the book signing at Krogers ? Ralph's wouldn't let you in uh ?

Did anyone see that interview with the Neelys>??? They married at age 28. Who is the baby Momma or Pappa of their oldest child who is in college. Do not deceive us- we can deal with blended familys

At 5/19/2009 4:41 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry -they say they have been married for 14 years in the interview.

Anon 440p. I caught that too and am wondering the same thing. As I've said before, I want to like them, but she is too in your face. Not real crazy with all the spicy fairy and brown sugar comments. Keep you hands off each other and act normal.

They were on the Bonnie Hunt show yesterday, 5/19 - pretty obnoxious.

Oh and I missed the show. Damn.

Sunny was on RR today. I love her hair. It looked amazing.

All of you are nothing but haters because they are black Americans who have achieved the "white American dream". There are many shows for you to watch so watch them! For many years black america has watched whites. Speaking for myself I enjoy the banter and candor of this college educated Southern couple in the kitchen who are making a small dent for the culture of Black cooking.

Paula Deen is annoying, and she's white. Giada comes off as completely self-absorbed. She's white. Rachael Ray has become boring. She's white. Come on now. I'm not trying to minimize racism or stereotyping people. It's an unfortunate truth in America. But we mustn't reduce everything to racism. The Neely's irk me, and most of the time, the food they cook is completely unappetizing.

Pat can you add your wet to my dry? Disgusting!

At 5/21/2009 12:48 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Then why are you watching the ones that irks or disgust you. Watch the ones that please you or cook food that satisfy your taste buds. There are others no matter what race they are. I was told as a child..."if you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." This must be the complaint message board!

The channel gets changed ASAP as soon as I hear that step and fetch it woman's screech. Put anybody back on that time slot weekdays between fat Ina and fat Paula. They have set back African Americans 30 years.

Ina Rules

At 5/24/2009 12:07 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree. Ina does rule! She's got the likability factor. A quality that most of the chefs/cooks lack on the network. Rachael Ray has changed on her ABC show. For the better! If you view her first year, she came across defensive and angry. I see her more relaxed now. Like she's found that comfort zone.

Pat & Gina are college educated ? Really, I wonder what they majored in? I think they need to go back to their restaurant and stay there. The constant sexual innuendos are so overdone and not necessary. I thought Gina had a child from a previous relationship ?

Great pandemonium! What a train wreck!!! The Neely’s, as a couple, have poor presentation skills. Did you hear someone shush them? How embarrassing.

ahwwww...come on now. what is so wrong with the Neely's attaining a high level of success? i am white girl who just adores the Neely's...they are sexy, REAL, and represent the growing diversity in our society. i don't see color or what some of the others have defined as culturally unappealing. Pat and Gina give me a good chuckle. Pat is too damn cute when she wiggles around in the kitchen - she exudes confidence in who she is. and to have a man who adores me the way Pat does Gina...geezzzzz wouldn't WANT what they have. i love 'em....i wish them a long a successful run on FN.

The Neelys can cook, but the cheesy stuff sucks. I especially like Pat, as no doubt that man knows his stuff. I don't care for the pandering to his wife, but if that is his thing, go for it. I'll try to watch anyway.

BTW, I note some crazy posts here suggesting that "haters" are racist...why is it that if a white person doesn't like what a black person does, he/she is suddenly a racist? To me, an annoying habit has no color - if a white man shows those annoying habits, its okay for me to criticize. If a black man shows those annoying habits, I'm suddenly a racist if I criticize.

If a black person criticizes a white person, does that make them racists, too?

Such excuses and defenses of racism are getting old. Let's forget color and just focus on common sense and behavior as our guide.

They dated in high school and broke up. Gina went off to CA and got married. The oldest daughter is from her first marriage. I love the neelys. It's good to see Black people in love and expressing that without fear of reprisal. They're a team and you can tell that not only do they love each other they really like each other.

I read all the comments and I must say I have been laughing! I think to each it's own, if its not for you dont watch. I believe the Neelys are themselves on the show and I think thats what counts. Only because, I have seen and met some of these food network stars in person and can I say "DISRESPECTFUL!" And yes, I dont think it is about racism because a lot of the bad ones on the food network are white. I CANT STAND ANN with her awful blonde due who doesnt wash her hands after handling meat! I love Ina, but she too is very self absorbs with her and Jefferey. So I think they all personalize the show to add their own flavor. LOL!

IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM, DONT WATCH THEM. I THINK THEY ARE ALL WONDERFUL PEOPLE. ITS JUST A SHAME, THERE ARE HATERS EVERYWHERE!!! HMMM ? GOT JESUS?

I cringe every time I hear Pat say "Halla-pee-no," and "Mozz-a-rella." Wouldn't you think Gordon Elliott would tell him the correct pronunciation? They need to go get a room and have some different guests at dinnertime to eat the food they've prepared beside their family. What about the crew or a neighbor. Mix it up folks so it doesn't become so boring and predictable. (I hate Pat's lecherous laugh, ugh!)

At 8/01/2011 4:04 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It doesn't mean that when we say we don't like certain things that we hate the Neeley's. I'd just like to see a few changes made so the show isn't the same old thing day after day. Let's face it, when Gina thrusts her you know what at the camera and Pat's whipping her hiney, leaves a lot to be desired. Acting ridiculous on a cooking show is not condusive to smart or proper behavior. Spice Fairy, indeed! After all, it is a COOKING SHOW, RIGHT?

Ina Garten? Doesn't the woman have any friends except the gay men she entertains? And is there only ONE florist in the Hamptons, run aby another gay friend who always chooses the same flowers for her? And while we're on the subject, doesn't this woman own a blouse except the blue one that's all faded? Jeffrey acts as though he's never eaten her food and totally ignores her when she puts her arm around him - he stares straight ahead as if to tell her, "Lemme get to the FOOD!" Her nervous laugh whenever she talks eventually gets to me. She has no formal culinary skills from any Institute, right, and is self-taught?

Who really irritates me is Giada de Laurentis. She has a really bad habit of saying..."AND,".... (big long pause...and has now been saying, "AND THEN,".... or "AND NOW,".... etc. I really like watching when her Aunt is on the show as they always have words. The Aunt says Giada bosses her, etc. haha BTW, most viewers don't know the house in Malibu is not her house but is only rented by the network to film her show. I've seen people complain and criticize her for having a head that's too big for her body (cruel), or that her mouth is sooo darn big. Yes, people can be mean, indeed.

Well, while we're on the subject, I think Anne Burrell is a fantastic chef; however, when she uses a spoon to taste something, I don't know how many times I've seen her put it right back in the pot of food!!! This is a no-no for any chef and she knows better. And what's with all the wild, ridiculous antics she goes into as well as calling food, "hello little artichokes," "you make me a happy, happy girl," etc. I think she could do without all the pet names for her dishes and the nonsensical antics she goes into as its totally unnecessary. I didn't see her doing this one time on "Worst Cooks in America," on both seasons, so why now?
