Bobby Flay Challenges Obama to a Grilling Throwdown

Bobby Flay achieved an all-new level of pompousness today when he strided into the White House and challenged President Obama to a grilling Throwdown.

Ha! At least that's what I thought at first when I saw the headline. Actually, Bobby was just there to give the Prez a few grilling tips.

After dedicating yesterday afternoon to the importance of fatherhood, President Obama and the Flaymaster -- and what sounds like many photographers (so many shutter clicks as Obama throws the steaks down) -- took to the grill. Flay brought up many Food Network talking points: the importance of the "one flip" when grilling meats, tips for grilling corn, and the ever-important "resting time" when pulling meat off the grill. Phew!

No word on whether or not Bobby ended their meeting with this line:
"So all you awesome Presidents out there, keep doing what you do... but ask yourself this: 'Are you ready for a Throwdown?'"

Ahem - who do you think was going for "Joe Everybody" in this little clip? I can only hope the POTUS knows how to run the country, and leaves the grilling to those who know how to do it best.

meh, wasn't really interesting where the President kept telling Bobby " I knew that, I know what I am doing "

Bobby is becoming a cartoon character but, its all for a good cause. right?

I think I saw the president eat a french fry that is like his one meal a day he needs some of those steaks he is looking thin in middle ...

Also, didn't Emeril Lagasse do the same thing with W or Clinton ???

I thought Bobby did a nice job.
Of course he was nervous, so he went into teaching mode. Nothing wrong with that.

I love Obama. I cannot get enough of or Prez!!! He just seems to be so accessible and cool, while still managing to be intellectual and brilliant at the same time. Flay was noticably nervous, but I would be, too. Afterall, hangin' with the leader of the free world would be a little intimidating!

I love Obama but I hope that he's more focused on the fact that S. Korea may shoot missiles to Hawaii on the 4th than the dry vs wet argument. And Neda. Poor Neda.

Thank you Food TV for providing a respite from all of this scary sad news. I wish Aunt Sandy was here to coctail it all away with me!

I don't care for Obama or Flay. I couldn't care less about what either of them does in his spare time.

Yay! Bobby did great and the Prez asked questions and interjected where he knew his way - loving it! Especially all the camera shutters anytime Obama moved food with the tongs.

As far as the political stuff - the guy deserves a few minutes off to throw a hunk of meat on a grill. I think he's fully aware of the goings on and will be ready to act if need be. At least I know he won't declare war if it's not necessary - or to settle an old vendetta for a family member. It's a pleasure to not cringe every time the president opens his mouth as I have the last eight years.

Mr Flay should count his lucky stars he was allowed to do this.

Say did any of you think why Aaron McCargo wasn't asked to do this instead of Flay ? Or Pauler Deen ?

FN should've sent McCargo ...
