Emeril: I'm Concerned
Former Food Network star Emeril Lagasse showed up at a few New York events recently looking a bit... disheveled. What's going on, E?!

Come on, Emeril! Use some of that $50 million you got from Martha Stewart to get a trainer. You gotta stay healthy if you're gonna be BAMing for much longer.

I disagree, Jacob. for that 50 mil, he probably had to sign away the rights to EVERYTHING. Like, if Martha decides tomorrow his new name is "Moley McPerkNipples", he has no choice but to apply for a new driver's license.

If you are so concerned about weight amongst chefs and "food celebrities" why don't you take a look at some of the growing derrieres and stomachs of some of your gal pals and set about to find them personal trainers.

Aside from the hair plugs, the botoxed forhead, the overacting thyroid and maybe just maybe a little depression there in the corners Emeril looks like he spent all the money he was making and then this financial depression started his resturants are not doing so well so he needs the $50 million or two...next we'll see him selling "Evenings with Emeril" for $350 each...just to pay his staff!

It's true that Emeril put the FN on the map. I will always love Emeril and his shows. I agree about leaving the guy alone. There are plenty of other chefs/cooks on FN that possibly have weight issues, but why give them a hard time. We don't know their personal health issues or anything else contributing to the situation. Please lay off Emeril.

This guy is an ass. It really seems like people of size (and she is only about a 12 or 14 by the way - our national average...camera does it to you, jerk), is the one type of stereotype that does not die in this country. We don't make fun of others for color, credit, orientation, etc. anymore, but God Forbid you be overweight, then it means you should be the brunt of any joke.
It is sad that our young people look at these sickly people on tv who are 6'2" and weight 110 and think that is normal. It is people like the Shamu guy that help little kids have eating disorders. Oh and I am a teacher and yes, I do see this firsthand. So, hush your mouth about Debbie, before this fat girl will sit on you.

Debbie is NOT a 12 or 14. The camera does add, but not that much.
But, as long as she is comfortable with herself, that's all that really matters. I know I'm about 10lbs to heavy and I am not comfortable at all. At least I am working on it though.

And no way I looked like her. I agree about laying off of the fat jokes, but obese is obese, and I'm afraid DL is obese. I'm not making a fat joke in saying that; I'm just calling a spade a spade.
But you are 5'8" and Debbie Lee is 5'2". And even if she were higher than that, there is no excuse to rag on the fact that she is overweight. Why does everyone assume that if someone is overweight that they must be miserable with themselves?
This is insane. I mean, who gives a damn if the woman is overweight anyway...or if Emeril is. Whos business is it for us to care or worry about it. Not everyone who is going to be on tv is skinny. Jacobs beloved Ina (and Paula)is certainly not thin either but you don't hear everyone picking on her. It is selective. So, it seems like if, in your all's mind, that an overweight female speaks her mind, she is shamu or a fat cow, but if they are sweet then they are exempt. Hypocrites
Never would the brave Jacob ever bash Emeril if he still was on FN.
Instead, acting on Herr Tuschman's directions he decides to post about Emeril's weight because Emeril is no longer useful to the FN.
If Jake really cares about the personal health of food celebrities, he should do a post about Sunny or Alex Guarnaschelli, or Mary Alice expressing his concerns.
Neither Jake or Tuschwipe can carry Emeril's jockstrap.
Emeril has been cooking for 31 years of course he is gonna gain some weight. I am sure the guy actually tests his cooking while he makes it unlike many I see on FN. I personally like to test my food when I am cooking to see if it needs anything. Emeril has worked with Julia Child and Jacques Pepin to name a few of some of the best chefs ever.I find it humorous when I see people who are in the FN mention Julia is their inspiration and they use premade items and so many ready made items.She would roll over in her grave at that.
Anyways most of the chefs who are heavier just prove they actually eat their cooking instead of a nibble for the camera. Who are we to say who needs to loose weight really would you go up to a heavy person and say hey lady or hey man you are kinda heavy go to the gym. I really doubt you would.
As for him leaving the FN how long would it take for Emeril to make 50million working for them? Anyone would have taken it. Also he is working on opening a few restaurants so maybe that is what he is spending it on. Its not a bad thing.

Newsflash you "alleged" skinny bitch, fat people don't need skinny people to "respect them more". You have some audacity to even spew such an arrogant statement. Who the hell are you? Respect is a two way street. You show it, you get it in return. And you certainly hear way more fat jokes than you do skinny bitch jokes.
In addition, being skinny does not mean you are healthy. I've known thin people who couldn't even run without getting winded. Bethenny from "Real Housewives" appears to drink like a fish, so while she has her skinny girl line of products and eats organic, her liver is taking quite the abuse.
So, next time you get called a skinny bitch, correct them and say, "no, I'm just a stupid bitch".

I find some of the comments interesting. Emeril is a French trained Chef and is true to his craft, he doesn't use a microwave, I don't imagine many of us can claim that. I believe he knows what is best for his family and himself. Please feel free to reflect why you have left a job or does is it help your sad sack lives to belittle others.

I don't know how anyone can miss the fact that in one picture it is very obvious that one side of his face (his right) is sagging. I believe he has had a mild stroke. When I saw him on Iron Chef tonight, I knew something was wrong. He was having a lot of difficulty with his speech being slurred (not like someone intoxicated) you could notice he could not walk fast and his motion, especially on his right hand was slow. He also had trouble with his eyes. I'm a nurse. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother to post on here.
Wow! I saw him today and wondered if it was Emeril? His face is puffy and his voice is smothered. He looks ill and like he's retaining fluid. It's not obesity.
I was shopping on QVC.com recently and watched a video of him selling his cookware - he just seemed depressed and not as vibrant. He kept saying "okay" a lot, which just seemed out of character. I don't know what happened...
