Tickets to NYC Wine & Food Fest Onsale Monday, 6/15

I've barely recovered from February's South Beach Wine & Food Festival, so I can hardly believe tickets to the 2nd annual New York City Wine & Food Festival go on sale Monday, June 15.

I love the beach and think South Beach is great, but I really think I enjoyed myself more at last year's festival in New York. Some events, like the Grand Tasting felt less crowded, and the October weather was just perfect for enjoying a few (okay, hundreds) bites and beverages. In SoBe, it's kind of hard to enjoy a steaming sausage sandwich when you're in a crowded tent on the beach and it's already 85 degrees at 10 a.m.

A big surprise this year will be the appearance by Ina Garten, who will be doing one of the TimesTalks interviews on Saturday, October 10.

If the ticket prices seem a little steep, keep in mind that all the proceeds from the festival will benefit the hunger-relief organizations Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength. Last year, the 2008 festival raised over one million dollars for those organizations. And from the culinary celebs I've talked to who appear each year, none of them receive payment for their appearances.

So think about making it a part of your Columbus Day weekend this year. I'll be there!

Wait a second Jake. Didn't Princess Giada request a fancy ladies watch last year from the event organizer as a gesture of her own appreciation for being asked to participate ?

Pretty sure it happened, so what is she asking for this year ? Birkin Handbag ? Faberge Egg ?

Find out for us Scoop , will yeah ?

There was a Food & Wine Festival here in Melbourne recently, and Gordon Ramsey got himself quite a bit of bad press after he insulted a female TV host during his appearance. Sounds like he went a little further than, say, Anthony Bourdin did at his SoBe event.

I can't believe Ina will leave the Hamptons! (lol) Well, at least she has her little Manhattan pied-a-terre; she and TR can see a show, go to Zabar's. Ya know: girl's day out :-)

Interesting that no one from FN is listed in the 'chef' category.

Jacob, is the NYC Food/Wine festival on your dime? Part of your dime or are you on your own all they way?

@Alec - I think she just got the watch for hosting the event for Tiffany--didn't think she requested it.

@anon 5:40 I attend as press, which covers the cost to some events in exchange for coverage, but I pay to attend any others I don't get passes to. And my transportation and lodging is all me.

Jacob , please for God's sake don't pay a fortune to see Paula Deen drop her pants and moon the audience ... Or, spend the time telling dirty jokes , describing her sex life with Michael , or telling everyone how , when and where ( like a driveway ) she has a bowel movement or intestinal gas attack !

So how did you know this ? Didn't you write about it last year ? Before she paid any attention to you ?

I wonder what she will do to stand out amongst all the real chefs in attendance at this gig ? I guess her cleavage will make an appearance.

Say do you think Duff Goldman will dispense any more sage advice like he did at the Bourdain/Waters Summit ? He could tell us all that they make water safer by boiling it .

Can I just point out that there is a "Sandra Lee" package that, surprisingly, does not include a bottle of nail polish remover and a Sterno can to make your own semi-homemade cocktails? Disappointing, but I still love my drunk Aunt Sandy!

I wish I can go... I checked in on tickets and so far just a couple of events are sold out... I was surprised 200 dollar tickets to RR burger bash was still available - sign of the times ... no one wants to pay 200 dollars for a freaking celeb burger...??????

I have been a vendor at two of these events, and it is amazing how many people come to see Paula. Her shows almost always sell out. Giada and Bobby Flay don't, though, and part of the issue I think is that Giada tends to keep the girls covered up for these things (as two guys who came to my booth said, "What's up with that?") and she's incredibly awkward live (at least the times I've seen her. I guess 15 hours taping per episode means there's at least one good take for them to use). I imagine there's a similar problem with Bobby Flay (what we probably see on TV is the least smarmy of the various takes he does).

And Jacob, I can tell you that even if the "celebrities" don't receive payment, they get a lot of stuff, and their expenses paid, for attending. The show organizers pretty much extort as much stuff out of us vendors as they can to give to the presenters. I saw the gift baskets being put together last year, and while a lot of the stuff if food, a lot of it isn't, too. (Of course, it's nothing like the $100k that RR demands for conference appearances -- my boyfriend looked into scheduling her once and couldn't believe it) There isn't anything forcing the vendors and organizers and sponsors to cough up the goods, but they do, and the presenters don't walk away emptyhanded (and who knows if they declare the gifts, either).

I don't think Giada cooks 'live' anymore. Not that she ever could. Thats why they nixed her as a cohost on Today third or fourth hour. But from what I understand she simply sits there and answers questions and 'humbly' lets people tell her how good she is while others cook and she takes the credit.

It's absolutely MINDBOGGLING that people will pay an exorbitant price for a ticket to see Paula Deen ... Go figure !
