Next Food Network Star - Episode 6

The remaining 5 contestants all headed down to Miami for episode 6 of The Next Food Network Star to serve a large hotel party.

Before they even made it out of JFK, the final 5 were met by Ted Allen and a Jet Blue chef who challenged them to create a dish the terminal's fine dining restaurants. It was fun to see Ted back in the guest-judge role...although I fear he probably ate a lot better on Top Chef.

Did you think the person who went home deserved it?

I am so tired of Debbie's poor me attitude and throwing others under the bus. Others have been tossed for lying and she should have been tossed tonight.

This whole thing SCREAMS rigged. Lying bitch Shamu gets off free again with just a wrist slap, while the man who has had good food every time except tonight is kicked off. It's obvious they favor Shamu greatly. Do they think we're stupid?

Thank God it's not just me..."Shamu" is just horrible...has been from the beginning...she is a brown nosing snake in the grass who will throw anybody under the bus that gets in her way...I just cannot stand to see watch her anymore...it's obvious they want an Asian on Food Network...but I believe they can do a hell of a lot better than this witch -- I don't think anyone will watch her except her family...and Melissa, sweet - but good lord, if I had to watch a program with her maniacal bugs bunny grin and pop-eyes...i will be too nauseated to eat. Jeffrey is my fav - I think they can build a really good show around him but he needs some work...Jamika - B-O-R-I-N-G...MILD jerk chicken - c'mon!!!

U N B E L I E V A B L E!!!!!!!!!SHE GOT SAVED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! She downright lied!! about doing other people’s food and they KEPT HER ANYWAY!!!! I WILL NOT continue to watch Food Network if DEBBIE LEE gets her own show!!!!!!!!!

UGH! God, i CANNOT believe they didn't cut that lying, self-serving, conceited *blankity-blank* Debbie Lee! I'm with those of you who say i'll boycott FN if she gets her own show. She is fake, deceitful and conniving, and i hope, God, i *hope*, that they are just keeping her around for the drama.

And if i *am* forced to boycott because of that ho-bag, thank goodness i at least have plenty of Alton Brown DVDs to remember the good old days with.

*shakes head* This whole thing is sadness upon insanity mixed with fraud. Horrible recipe! >:(

of course it is rigged. another poster stated this is a show case not a competition. I wonder is this something along the lines of that movie about some old game show scandal. I think it was called "Quiz Show"

Ok, so I just got home and the DVR was off!!!! So who got cut. So sorry to use this to find out....

Mike got cut, even though Debbie blatantly lied...again.

It was down to the two of them.

I'll watch. I liked him but wish he hadn't admitted being scared of the cameras. Dumb move on a TV show.... But think he could have been really good.

Not fond of Debbie either.

Thanks for the info.

I call a do-over. This season hasn't had anything RESEMBLING a star.

Melissa reminds me of those Hillary Clinton/Zombie pics from the campaign. She's equal parts noodge and goblin.

Debbie has done a fantastic job of tanking her career. My wife and I both yelled "..AGAIN!" when Susie said that an ugly part of her was revealed tonight.

Jamika is a blinky pre-preparer. The judges give way more credit than she deserves. They turn "friendly" into a 10-minute salute.

Jeffrey is clearly the best, and he's the blandest thing I've ever seen. I can't tell if he wants to go to sleep or I do.

The last two seasons have struggled. re-vamp or go away.

Michael shot himself in the foot by admitting to be petrified of the camera, and then re-emphasizing this over and over...and over.

Jeffrey at this point is the best choice, IMO, though he seems very pedestrian, almost like Michael Chiarello-Lite. I shudder to think about how/what Gordon Elliot would concoct to try and make him "Larger than life"...we don't need him rubbing a steak on his projector screen forehead.

Jamika started strong, but ran out of steam...fast. Everything after the first 2 weeks (if that) has screamed, "medicore". Yawn.

Melissa is kind-hearted, warm and sweet. However, I don't need her ultra-hyper, shrilling self bugging out at me every week. If she toned it down 2 or 10 notches, she'd be very good, even if her cooking chops aren't really extraordinary or exciting.

Debbie sucks, and it's a travesty that she is going to probably win...and I'm Korean. I just think aside from a few "good" dishes and decent attempts at Korean-Southern fusion, she has shown a blatant lack of integrity. Even with post-production editing, it's evident that there isn't too much smoke and mirrors going on with what a 2-faced liar she is.

If they want to bring some charismatic Asian flare back to the Network, they should've kept Ming or bring Martin aboard...didn't he have a show on Food Network Canada? Or he still does? Both these men are more presentable, knowledgeable and better on camera that this tub of fail. Hell, just bring back Japanese Iron Chef episodes...Film a bottle of soy sauce sitting on the counter for 30 minutes a week...ANYTHING would be better than he being the lone Asian influence on the Network.

Sadly, it's clearly evident at this point the winner was determined weeks before the first episode was shot...determined by looking at statistics and exploring what demographics they could work to expand on.

I'm just wondering how the hell Shamu was able to stay on after this week. Bobby was clearly pissed at her attempt at martyrdom and Bob definitely caught her in her lies. Susie must have promised Bob and Bobby a threeway or something to get them to keep Shamu...

The judges made a big deal out of how important ethics are earlier this year. Understandable, given the Jag situation 2 years ago. They sit back and acknowledge Debbie's lack thereof, and then put her through anyway. What's up with that?

At 7/13/2009 1:12 AM , Blogger Unknown said...

I despise Debbie. I hope she goes next week.

Michael, unfortunately, is afraid of the camera. Food Network is a *TV* (thus *CAMERA*) based situation. So, although I adored him, I understand why they cut him. I just hope they cut Miss LiarLiar next week. I am SO tired of her lies!

At 7/13/2009 1:14 AM , Blogger Malt said...

Ugh, absolutely disgusting. While Michael wasn't the best personality to ever come by (plays up the flamboyant gay shtick too much), he was LEAGUES better than Shamu.

Really, the only reason to watch this show anymore is for Bobby's criticisms. He's just fantastic at being a jerk.

At 7/13/2009 1:27 AM , Blogger Kathleen Dombrow said...

REALLY?!?!?! A liar over someone with personality! Yikes. I respected the fact that the Food Network still pushed ethics with its talent, but apparently not anymore! All I have to say is Bobby better watch his back if Debbie becomes part of the "family" . . . nothing like a backstaber in the family.

At 7/13/2009 1:28 AM , Blogger Regina Freeland said...

Michael made 2 critical mistakes. One he said [again] that he's afraid of the cameras, and the judges said that his food tasted like "nothing". Something else, didn't get around enough at the party to serve his own food. I do think Melissa is in the lead still; Jamika, Jeffrey & Debbie are following her.

I think next week's going to be Debbie's week (can't stand her-or Michael, actually). However, does anybody else find it interesting that Michael was eliminated when Ted Allen was a guest judge?

BTW - Jacob - i'd love to know the "straw that broke the camel's back" regarding anonymous commenting.

I'd feel both sad, and strangely proud(?), if it were mine.

Random note from the show: Never trust a fatso claiming to create "wasteline-watching" cuisine.

What a crack of day old *hit, fricking shamu in the 1st episode , did not get the mustard for shanikua, and lie about it and no one gave a hoot about it.

I wish the judges were the real fans of the show instead of the puppets we see every week..they can`t be that stupid or blind to ignore the sentiment of the majority.

Not that they will give a hoot ,but i am feed up with that crap and will not tune in any more i don't give a flying **** about any of it.

I am sorry to jump on the Debbie bashing bus late but I was stuck watching the train wreck that is the next Food Network Star last night and in between my own vomit and what was served me thinks the reason Debbie or any of these people have "made it" this far is

Money.

They either have lots of financial backing or some kinda money ball deal for Food Network i.e. Food2 show.

I can't believe a whole network jumped the shark but Food Netowrk is worse than an 88 cent chocolate cake mix box...just add water and see it grow.

Well Done Tuschwipe. I thought topping last year's debacle with Chef LuncheonMeat Lipitor would be hard to do follow , but kudos to you.
In less than a year you have managed to garner the honor of having your TV station being referred to as a "cake mix" network.

I'll bet every exec at real TV stations are howling and using your example of how to alienate and piss off viewers to their advantage.

Ted Allen was one of queer eye for the straight guy tv stars. Didn't anyone other than Heather catch that??
Unfortunatly the liar is the chosen one, simularities from last year. TV has quotas also, we live in a PC world.

I am not too pleased who they kicked off.We all know who should have been kicked.
To be honest I cannot wait for the new Top Chef season to start. I like that show much better, also alot more realistic situations in the kitchen such as front of the house and back of the house and there is no questions why people get kicked off they don't allow you to serve raw meats and get away with it for a few weeks.

I can understand wanting to get rid of Micheal due to his camera comments, but to let Debbie stay shows where FN's integrity issues are on their list of qualifications for a star.

I was so hoping that Micheal would get to stay and when they said he was going home, I was severly disappointed. I have to keep watching but Debbie needs to leave next week. If they keep her til the final three for drama, it would just be wrong.

But I do have to admit that I can't wait til the next episode to see how Jamika, Jeffrey, and Melissa treat her. I would be hard pressed to be nice to her. Polite civilness would be all I could muster.

CAN'T stand Ted Allen ...

He's freakin' everywhere and it's bloody annoying ... He wasn't even the "good" part of "Queer Eye" (It was all Kyan & Carson) ...

Seriously, Ted's on Food / Bravo / PBS Create ... It's just toooo feakin' much ...

I turned on Ming's show the other night and there was stupid Ted ... WTF does he know about making Asian food??

I hate Debbie. I hate Bob and Susie even more for not getting rid of her.

I think they are favoring minorities like last season. Reverse discrimination.

At 7/13/2009 7:03 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Another thing about Debbie. I'm not trying to be mean, but looking at her reminds me to eat less.

Debbie is the poster child for overindulgence and obesity. I don't need my chefs to be thin, but she is very unhealthy looking.

At 7/13/2009 7:28 PM , Blogger Unknown said...

I think all of the hateful comments about Debbie's weight are a bit uncalled for, as really, she has a wider face, which makes her look a lot bigger too. The problem with Debbie, ACTUALLY, is that she takes no responsibility for her actions since day one, yet she gets a pass for everything she does. I will not watch her show, although it seems that next week will be her last. As for Michael, I adore him, but it seemed like Susie would have had difficulty marketing him, as he might have had to tone down a bit for the network. He will likely go on to be the next successful one, like Adam Gertler. Frankly, the show isn't worth watching anymore. I could be watching True Blood instead.

This week Debbie made good food - but lied. Michael made not so great food - and has said he's bad at the camera. Drat.

You know what really concerns me? In the past few episodes, Debbie has had the best makeup by far. It's like she gets the $100 a tube stuff - AND TOUCH UPS - and everyone else gets maybelline. (Which is nice, but still...)

Honestly that detail is the tipping point that makes me worried that they've already chosen Debbie.

At 7/13/2009 10:12 PM , Blogger Charles said...

WHO LOVES YOU MICHAEL!!?? Apparently not Bob or Susie. Although you really got on my nerves last night, Michael, you were the best of the bunch. I'm on the wagon and Debbie has to go! Of course her food came out good she used the whole night to get it just right while everyone else was busy. Noone left is worthy of their own show and really won't last. Down with all these beeyatches!

I heard Shamu was being tapped to be the next spokesperson for Blimpie Sandwiches...

This is pretty much over...Debbie will be kicked off for a real or perceived ethical lapse, Jamika will go after she freaks out in front of the camera again, and Mellissa will probably lose to Jeffrey when he edges her out with better food. Then Mellissa will get some kind of FN2 or FN3 show full of tips for moms.

They sure telegraphed Michael going home whether they wanted to or not, he looked DEFEATED in all of his on-camera recaps during the show.

Maybe he'll get a show on FN4.

At 7/14/2009 12:46 AM , Blogger Lord of Light AZ said...

Did the right one go home, sure. It wasn't Jeffrey or Melissa. That being said. Debbie is still would have been my pic.

I know how to keep Debbie to the end next week goodbye Jamika, the following week is goodbye Debbie, but wait there's more, the finale is ala "Iron Chef", 5 dishes of whale, starring Debbie as the whale. Jeffrey and Melissa, cook horribly and the judges award the win to the the secret ingredient, "Debbie the Whale"

The new show will be "Korean Klassic", cooking will be done on one of the "green" cooking oil powered buses, other FN stars will guest appear and find out how to fit under the bus. First episode, how to make rotten kimshi and kobe beef with Morimoto. Shamu accidently runs into Motoman and crushes him.

In passing, man it must be interesting to cook in an airline terminal with the knives cabled to the workstations. and thank godness no more anonymous posters.

"she has a wider face, which makes her look a lot bigger too."

No, she's big on her own. Have you seen her next to Jamika? Jamika is a good-sized girl, but Debbie dwarfs her.

Debbie wins, Melissa gets a show anyway...

At 7/15/2009 6:51 PM , Blogger rkt said...

If they truly kicked off Michael for his comment about hating the camera, then they already know who they want to win. Aaron last years winner said the exact same thing and quess what here he is. Also if the only reason Debbie stayed was because of her food, then why judge them and comment on other traits like camera, personality etc. Just bring in people whose food tastes good.

At 7/16/2009 12:01 AM , Blogger Unknown said...

In order to give Shamu Debbie a show, they would have to pay her a ton to keep her properly fed.

Hey JA they can just give her all those attempts in the test kitchen Bobby Flay uses on challenge. God knows he needs enough attempts to take on his competition.

During this weeks upcoming episode commercials, I am very interested in seeing exactly who Debbie is alluding to in her "this person is so hurtful" whiney crybaby fest...She just will not take responsibility for anything...I hope someone got in her face this coming episode...mama Mel needs to bitch slap ol Debbie...Jam and Jeffrey can hold her down...I hate that I despise this woman so much...does the Food Network get this about her yet...find a talented Asian with integrity to host a show - there are plenty of them out there...Debbie appeals to NO ONE...

At 7/25/2009 10:16 AM , Blogger Unknown said...

it's fine to not like debbie, yeah she's shady as hell, but for those of you calling her 'shamu' - does that really make you feel better? sick.

At 7/31/2009 1:04 AM , Blogger yum-yums said...

Those that got offended by the "shamu" remark must be big also.

I agree with most, Debbie was so annoying. I think most wouldn't make fun of her weight if she had some good qualities.

I'm tire of her "I'm Korean" phrase. change it up... maybe use "I'm Asian" once in awhile. Her cooking seemed to be mediocre, and yet, she acted as if she was good.

In the last episode, she sounded as if she was offended when they critiqued her food... My food's my food, I'm not going to make excuses, she said. Accept the critique gracefully.

In the beginning, I hoped that Debbie would win because Food Network doesn't have an Asian chef and they need one!

I'm so glad she's gone. She sounded idiotic by saying something like... I rep. the Koreans and Americans.I think I understand the whole America... what?

I have to say, she was the biggest Asian girl I have ever seen.
