Next Food Network Star - Episode 7

I am almost 100% certain that I didn't watch tonight's episode of The Next Food Network Star, since I just got done enjoying my second full day in Paris. I was hopefully eating an omelet at the Ina Garten-recommended Cafe de Flore when it aired.

Nevertheless, the episode aired and SOMEbody got kicked off!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Jeffrey got the boot! I think an all-girl final showdown might be in the cards.

Was I right?

Hell no. Jamika!! Hopefully the final will be him and Melissa!
Debbie is too fake

Hm, let's see what happened.

Jeffery cookes the winning, continues to be a bore.

Melissa calms down, makes a good dish.

Jamika makes average food, acts a bit angry.

Debbie lies AGAIN, FORGETS AN INGREDIENT, and only makes average food.

And who gets the boot?

Hint: It's not Debbie.

Of course Jeffrey did not get kicked off...you know better.

i would hope the powers that be would realize that because debbie has consistently shown herself to be dishonest and underhanded, people wouldn't necessarily be endeared enough to watch her show. i know i'm not. so she can handle a camera, so what? and if she wins, all i'll see when i see promos, etc. for her show is "oh there's that lying cheat's show. what else is on?"

Let's see Debbie gets no brainer distractions in the first challenge. No utensils and she uses her hands wow, rocket science... They swapped out a protein, maybe they should have subbed rice for pasta.. shessh...

Then in challenge #2 they swap out high salt ingedients and replace them with?? high salt ingredients...

She is the last one to get the shocking news, so she is prepared...

The fix is in.... no doubt after today's show...

Instead of just saying she forgot the capers she:
Says they are in the dressing, then probably remembers they are being filmed, so can't get away with that...
She then says she wasn't given them... they call her out on that lie and again she probably says shit we are on a t.v. program.. then fesses up....

Don't know about the editing, but she comes off very dishonest...

Jeffery cooking without borders.. What the f#@k does that exactly mean?????

Melissa has the best show concept and she is holding her own with educated and trained chefs... I think she would have the best show...

I said it before I will say it again.
The fix is in Debbie wins, Melissa still gets her own show.

As a "home cook", I was a little perturbed that Mr. Tuschman described Melissa as "frantic homemaker" at one point.

Thank you, Mr. Tuschman, for completely putting down a HUGE majority of your viewing audience!! One should NOT speak down to homemakers.

His,
Mrs. U- VERY happy homemaker and a pretty good cook, too!

This show is a complete joke.

Debbie's Shamu a$$ didn't even get any real "distractions" during the first challenge...how the F--- does taking away tongs and swapping chicken for fish even compare to what the others had to endure?

I wouldn't watch a show with Debbie as the star. I want to watch a program with someone who can cook, not someone who makes excuses...

At 7/20/2009 12:19 AM , Blogger Unknown said...

That Shamu must scare the judges. Maybe they think she will eat them alive if they throw her off. What a disgusting obese pig.

I think the only reason that Debbie is still here is for the finale. I honestly think that FN is very well aware (and has been since filming) that we HATE Debbie. Face it, she's pretty much solely responsible for all the people watching this season. Everyone I know tunes in each week just in hopes of seeing Debbie get killed or something. I think that FN has let Debbie coast this long to get viewers in and then in the finale she'll be cut, leaving viewers ecstatic and more willing to watch whatever show won. Any other thoughts?

At 7/20/2009 2:41 AM , Blogger Unknown said...

Matt, you bring up a very good point. The "villain" is often times the most popular figure in any form of entertainment, and people will absolutely tune in to see them finally get what's coming to them.

However, there is also the fact that she is getting the same "passes" for practically everything, just like Aaron did last season...While Aaron was hardly a "villain", if they let him go all the way and win it all, what's to say they don't legitimately want Debbie to win this time? Not to mention the whole "quota" conspiracy/debate/argument.

When all is said and done, I honestly don't see any of the 3 having bonafide star power or longevity on the network...well, longevity maybe, since Aaron got extended and I don't know a single person who is a fan of his.

One thing I do know for sure is that as mainstream as they are, the FN is still caters to a very niche audience as well...these people will lose (even more) respect for the Network if Debbie wins, or even gets her own show.

Hopefully, they keep whatever integrity people think they still have.

Jay, they lost their integrity last year.

And it is obvious many are in the tank for it including this blog author here. Anyone notice you now have to have an account to respond here. How much conversation on this has been squashed, or dare I say censored and controlled?

TPTB should give Jamika the On The Road series -- the one the Neelys gag through that was The Deen Bros before they took if from that nice lady who had it before them. Jamika has personality, knows a little about food, but has a decent personality when she isn't under pressure. And given the catastrophe that was last season, it didn't matter where you placed, you got a show.

Does anyone else cringe when Debbie talks all condescending like Ina Garten? Southern my butt. Southern Californian maybe. Or is this another lie, hmmmmm, Debbie?

At 7/20/2009 11:16 AM , Blogger Angie said...

Jamika needed to go, although I think Debbie deserved to go for her umpteenth lie of the season. "The capers are in the dressing...I mean, I didn't have capers...I mean, wait, we're being filmed?"

Jamika's time had run out. I don't think she was as engaging as she was in the beginning. She gets flustered easily, and while she's sweet and would probably have a decently sized audience, she wouldn't have the star power that other FNS have.

I'm surprised Melissa has made it this far. If she gets rid of her frantic-ness, she could have a large base of fans who have been laid off and are looking for an FN star they can relate to.

At 7/20/2009 12:18 PM , Blogger Alec Smart said...

Based on merit, I think you need to give it to Jeffery or Melissa , but overall the process of finding a new "star" has been kind of problematic.

An easy route would be to simply call Lisa Garza, admit you fucked up by giving Aaron McCargill the win last year and offer her a show.

Tuschelwipe, this is some bad TV.

Melissa "frantic-ness" can be handled because FN shows are not taped live. The are scripted, blocked and shot. Retakes are done when necessary.

I think she has shocked a lot of people. Bobby Flay was pleasantly surprised with the way she is breaking out.

Melissa also seems to be able to take direction. Her flaws were pointed out and she made a genuine effort to correct them and overall she has succeeded.

Smart boy Jacob, Letting us comment and you over there in Paris.

Let us know how Cafe de Flore is, as well as every other place you get a chance to eat at.

I watched TNFS then True Blood. There definately is a place for Debbie on True Blood. Debbie continues to be the Spin Doctor of Food Network.

Lord knows we hate that korean fat ass, she is a mess as a person and as a cook.

The show as some one pointed here, has no credibility , is a crack of crap.

To bad they have no real personality this year, who ever wins we all loose, and no doubt will be a waste of ingredients when they cook.

Just for gags, show hands for the dopes that watch ,what his face black mr clean cooking show?

Nothing to learn ,just like the Neeages(sp), a waste od food .!!

Am I the only one who loves Debbie? If it weren't for her, the show would be boring, boring boring!

She's the only thing that makes the show fun to watch.

*uproarious laughter*

I love Debbie Lee! (Seriously!)

I fully admit it. She's entertainment and I really like her Asian-Southern fusion style cuisine. She may have attitude, but girl can cook, and she has a "clear culinary point of view" :) You go Debbie Lee!! :)

I admit it: I actually yelled out loud when they showed Shamu without her make-up.

It's gotta be Jeffrey in the end (which by the way is NOT a compliment). Debbie's integrity is pretty much unfixable at this point, and Melissa is WRONG - she has NO culinary credibility. Not with chefs, not with home cooks... she's a nobody with giant teeth. Go home.

Melissa or Debbie has to win. I do like Debbie. Jeffery, there is just something That I don't like about him. The last thing FN needs to do is get Lisa Garza back on camera. The happiest day of my life was the day she went home.

Jeffery is calculating. He has ceased upon others weaknesses and exploited them to maintain. He reminds of that guy from the first season of survivor.

I think Melissa has really grown. I like her!

I want to like Debbie as she can cook, but she has lied and gotten so many free passes, well, I can't.

I like jeffrey too, but he has no culinary point of view that I can tell. However he is cute, happily married and can cook, so who knows?!

All I can say that even with all the lying Debbie did, the judges were still simpering over her...she said she was Korean at least twice and no one called it out...if I hear she is Korean one more time i will throw up. As for the challenge...they should have all received the same challenge...Debbie got the easiest one - I believe all of the contestants (except maybe Jam who is not friendly with the camera) would have handled it as well...Debbie would have been just as flustered with the more difficult challenges which followed.
I think the judges were sucking up to her, even while calling her out on the capers...if someone else had done that amount of lying on this program they would have been gone by now...
It's all staged, all rehearsed and all ready the winner has been chosen...the rest is semantics.
So why do I still watch...because Debbie is a train wreck and I am DYING to see myself proven wrong and her Korean lard butt sent packing along with all her Korean ingredients...she is so not a credit to her race!

The judges seem to require that the next FN Star be able to cook from regions all over the world?

Doesn't that seem hypocritical from a contest that insists its winners have culinary POV's and from a network that has shown Giada, Paula, Mario, Ming and Ingrid? These people don't exactly cook with a global palette.

If Debbie cooked only Asian food, I'd probably watch--simply because no one else does this on FN.

El chef Carlitos, you sound like you are hating on the people who had the balls to try out for the show and actually win. In addition, it sounds like you have a problem with the Food Network finally being integrated instead of segregated. Aaron McCargo's show is very diverse and he cooks foods from all kinds of cuisines. If you are such a chef, I challenge you to get on the show and show the world what you can do instead of being condescending and hateful to those who are successful. Right now you need to add sugar to your "Hateraide!!!!"

Just watched the last episode again. It's obvious Debbie continues to get a pass on her lying & deceitfulness. I've thought of a great way for FN to market her show: Call it "LEE THE LIAR" She leaves out ingredients & lies about it!!!!! See if YOU can figure out what ingredients she left out of her dishes this week!!!! They could carry that angle a long way. It would be a little different take since we all have seen this season FN only gives lip service to the "integrity" of contestants. They might as well market the real Debbie Lee. She's a LIAR, market her as a liar. It would be a refreshing change. I might even watch that show.

Actually I think "Shamu" has a better figure! Debbie is more like a pumpkin with a cantaloupe (head) sitting atop it!

I didn't get to see Debbie without her makeup on, does anyone have a pic??
