Noah Starr GONE on Ask Aida

The new season premiere of Ask Aida was on this morning and host Aida Mollenkamp's "tech guru" Noah Starr was noticeably absent. I think Noah got the technological boot. See yah, Noah!

Ask Aida has never been one of my favorite shows on Food Network. Noah did have his comedic moments here and there, but I don't think his presence will be missed all that much. Sorry to say.

As she acknowledged in our interview last year, Aida already knows what questions will be asked of her in advance and everything is planned out on her show. Thus, having a "tech guru" there to read her emails and "call" viewers just didn't seem to make sense.

Will you miss Noah?

I just watched it while running on the treadmill. I have made a few of her things and they were good. Glad Mr. Noah is gone, but she really needs to look in the camera and stop saying "CHECK THIS OUT". OH and what is that "hair do"?????

I thought Noah was kinda cute. Actually a lot cute.

The entire concept of the show was having people ask aida questions, and Noah was our representative in that process. Without him there it's not nearly the same. Before she'd make recipes and the questions would break in asking about technique. Now the questions are just "how do I make a burger?" And then she makes a burger. Without Noah it's just another generic cooking show. They've gotten rid of what made it unique.

Just watched the show and I mostly enjoyed the tweaks they made. She was certainly more relaxed and convivial and seemed less unsure of where to find things. (Although I have to admit, I haven't watched the show in awhile.)

Noah was adorable, but I didn't miss him. I think Jackie Malouf playing off a surly Bobby Flay for "Hot Off the Grill" is the gold standard for how that kind of set-up is supposed to work; she made up for what he lacked, and she knew food.

If Noah was a foodie, we rarely saw it. He just kind of sat there. It never really gelled in the shows I watched.

Gotta admit, Aida taking a huge bite of that first burger and grinning afterwards, was hot. I liked her humor, but I agree that without the Q&A it's a fairly generic show. The burgers looked tasty, and I liked that she had a veggie recipe, but does FN need MORE burger recipes at this point?

Maybe they could mix "Molto Mario" with "How to Boil Water" and just have people sitting at the counter watching and asking questions.

Off-topic: I caught a new ep of "30MM" this morning. Holy crap, how much salt did Rachel toss over her shoulder?! It much have been like walking on sand on that kitchen.

She had to have been mega-rushed that day: her pepper grinder was empty, she couldn't find a few ingredients, pork chops and onions were flying around.

That's kind of RR's thing, and I like that they don't re-shoot that stuff (like she has the time anyway), but again, the woman is clearly over-scheduled. She is gonna drop dead of exhaustion, and those palmfuls of salt she dumps in her pasta water isn't helping.

Also, I'm wondering if Jacob is still watching Sandra Lee's silly money-saving show (I think I'm done with it now); an onscreen graphic last week was misspelled AND got the math wrong. Quality control seems to be slipping a touch.

I wasn't a big fan of Ask Aida last season and thought that Noah was one of the show's only saving graces.

When I watched this morning, I thought I would really hate the show now that he is gone.

BUT, I actually found the show MUCH more pleasant and enjoyable than it was last season. Maybe Aida is just finally coming into her own.

I'll keep watching.

I'm a tech guy by day and foodie by night... I will miss Noah!! I kinda identified with him.

Plus, he was cute too! :)

Aida just straight up sucks. She has yet to advise us or show a cooking technique that we haven't seen a gazillion times already on FN, or didn't know already. WTF was the big deal over the "no recipe recipe" potato fries? Dumb a** beeyatch. With or without Noah SHE IS DREADFUL.

And note to Benjamin: Stop being a drama queen. Seriously, "pork chops and onions flying around"? That was hardly the case. And I'd say it's the fault of the behind the scenes peeps for the pepper grinder not being filled. And the only ingredient she couldn't find was I think the fennel seeds which wasn't in the pull out cupboard but right next to it. As if.

I agree with Rob. I have to admit, I didn't watch much of this show. However, it was clear that Noah was the show's saving grace. Without him, it's just another cookie-cutter show (no pun intended)with a a lack-luster host...

Charles, relax, I was just having a little fun. Tone of voice doesn't always translate online. I watch 30MM all the time, so it's more obvious to me when RR is a little more manic than usual.

Noah signed a pro sports contract with an English Premiere League team. He is rumored to be the next Wayne Rooney.

I think that’s why she gave her a cooking show, she’s a pretty young thing, with some fundamental knowledge. But it is an unfortunate aspect of society that media consciously avoids women who are too beautiful because there is an overt fear that hotness destroys credibility, and to a certain degree, they are right. By the way, I am a dude, so I don’t think brains and beauty should necessarily be separated. In fact, the holy grail of all women is the brainy hot chick; matter of fact.

Sorry Benjamin, didn't realize you were into 30MM. I took a chill pill since I went on my rant. :)

I actually don't mind this show, never have. What I do find annoying is how she was made up to be more glamorous. Look at her on yesterdays (8/22)show compared to last seasons shows. The same for Giada at Home, look at all the eyemakeup they have on her!!
Somehow makes the shows seem less credible to me.

This show always makes me think of what remedial home ec would be like in high school, with a teacher who was more ignorant than her students. It's actually PAINFUL to watch.

I haven't seen the new show yet but I'm not sorry to see him go.

I understood that someone felt she couldn't carry the show on her own and they added a 'sidekick' but I just didn't think he worked. It was a lot of "huh, who's this? Her brother? Why is he there? What? She can't run a laptop?"

She either needs to be engaging on her own and they need to find some way for her to interact with the questioners or cancel the show.

Yeah, she's a babe. Yeah, she wears tight shirts... but that only gets you so far.

You get the first two viewings with those elements but to keep them coming back and to get more people watching you've got to have a good show, great content and an engaging host.

I never liked Noah as I didn't feel that he brought much of anything to the table. My thoughts were confirmed when I saw him in 2 different commercials a few months ago. So he was just a hired actor anyway!!?? He's not a foodie or a techie. I was very disappointed, but I really like Aida and feel she doesn't need a sidekick anyway. She's very talented and great in front of the camera.

Noah's IMDB page:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1907999/

It says he's filming a project right now, so was likely tied up in pre-production and other things that are typical before shooting begins.

I think it's more of a case of him being useless on the show and the producers saving a salary for this season. He just didn't work for the format, for her or for the enjoyment of the show.

Adios.

I thought he was adorable and fey in his own way. But the Food Net now has Brian Boitano for that, so why keep young Noah around? I'll miss him a LITTLE, but that's negligible since I don't really watch "Ask Aida" all that much.

I tried watching the first few shows without Noah, but have given up. Aida is hot, but she seems to be too aware of it. Noah represented the viewer, and made the show more accessible. They seemed to have good chemistry, and it made it seem like she was showing her friend how to cook. Now, it seems like she's trying to hard to be the sassy cute cook. Ick.

I have tried watching the show without Noah and I just can't! It really bothers me when Aida talks without looking into the camera. At least when Noah was there it seemed she was looking at him and not just dead space!
