New Barefoot Contessa Coming Oct. 18 - Best Birthday Ever!
You begged. You pleaded. You endured months without her on the weekends.
But on Oct. 18 (my birthday) Ina Garten finally returns!
You got 'em, Ina!
Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics premieres Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1:30pm ET *NOTE NEW TIME
Steak & Sides
Premieres: Saturday, October 18th 1:30PM
It’s back to basics on everyone’s favorite autumn meal: classic steak and sides. Ina’s turning up the volume on steak house classics and she’s getting her friend TR to taste test the recipes for her. Filet steaks are sautéed then oven roasted to perfection with a fabulous Roquefort and chive sauce. Then she’s offering some delicious sides - sautéed wild mushrooms and crispy cornmeal fried onions rings.
Perfect Dinner Party
Premieres: Saturday, October 25th 1:30PM
Who better to throw the perfect dinner party than Ina Garten herself? The secret is a three-part meal with a perfect candy ending. To start, easy appetizers, then Bay Scallop Gratins and to finish, two delicious homemade candies – White Chocolate Bark and Fleur de Sel Caramels.
As you know, Giada De Laurentiis' new show Giada at Home premieres Oct. 18 as well, and The Chef Jeff Project has its first episode on Oct. 12 at 10pm ET.
Lots of greatness in October. The best month of the year, in my opinion.

That's REALLY GOOD news.
And TR appearing in the premiere...naturally.
LOL, TR again. He's so fierce.
Yay, so excited for more Ina!
This is great news :) Can't wait for the new shows to start.
Thanks for the update. I'll be there.
OMG! My husband will flip for the first episode! Hooray-I am so glad she is coming back.
yay! i love her simple and classy food!
Hey maybe FN does read the blog. She is so classy. Probably one of the better shows on FN. Makes me happy!!!!!
Finally! Looking forward to all the new episodes. Ina is awesome!
I can't wait to get my Ina on!!!
Jeffery Garten's Wiki entry is quite impressive.
Yes he did serve a number of US presidents and yes he is a professor at Yale. The guy is a titan of industry as I see it, serving on several boards and is revered by many .He contributes to the NYTimes, Business Week etc..
It must pain him to watch how the Food Network is run. Maybe why Ina does her show, and keeps to herself and the boys in East Hampton.
Sound great! But 1:30 on Sat does that mean they're cutting Ellie Kreiger? I hope not!
I can't blame Ina for keeping to herself. She's got to have a life, and I'm glad she's chosen to do so. Overexposure is not going to necessarily help any TV personality's career. Look at Guy Fieri. Never mind. DON'T look at Guy Fieri. BTW, her friend TR is hot.
I just don't get the adoration of Ina Garten.
Maybe you have to be gay.
Oh mah gawd! Ina is coming back and so is TR.
I'm gonna lose it.
Yea! Ina AND TR! Yum! :D
I'm happy that Ina is back, but I hope they don't cut Ellie Krieger's show. Her show is really great and inspiring. Hey the Neelys got two time slots on the weekend.
Throw me into the big pot of steaming Ina love. She's classy, makes good food, has an adoring husband and a coterie of lovely gay friends (where do I get my application?) and she literally *purrs* sometimes when she's cooking! Close your eyes and just listen to her talk - it's a sensuous treat. Besides, she DOESN'T YELL WHEN SHE'S COOKING (are you listening, Rachel?).
FN could stand more class - and Ina's got it.
INA!! Queen of the Queens.
The best show..... thank god she is back with new stuff....
I love her food but don't really like her personality. There's something creepy about her -- like I could totally believe she's a serial killer on the side and she buries the male hitchhikers she knocks off under her house. There's a little Annie Wilkes in her. But hey, the food is great.
Anon 6:26- I'm an Ina fanatic and I am not gay! I think everyone loves her!
i am at the point where i no longer enjoy the food network....being able to enjoy ina is good news, but where is BIG DADDY?????has he already gone the way of THE GOURMET NEXT DOOR?????????????
I GOT NEWS FOR YOU.....THERE IS "SOMETHING CREEPY" ABOUT EVERYONE ON THAT NETWORK......
She is great. Very calming to watch. Here that RR she doesn't have to scream/yell and put herself out there to be great!!!!
Great news, and I hate to look a gift Ina in the mouth, but is Back to Basics a second show running in addition to new episodes of Barefoot COntessa or is it replacing Barefoot Contessa completely? Not sure since I've seen reports that suggest she has filmed episodes of both shows. Anyone know for sure?
Great news!!! I too love to watch Ina and am not gay.
Ina is very calming to watch. She is classy and does make very good food. As the above poster said, I hope that this is a new series to go along with the Barefoot Contessa episodes.
I always enjoy watching Ina and Giada for the same calming effect. Even though Ina is not a trained chef, I think she is very talented. I have used more of her ideas and recipes over anyone else on the FN.
J
Wonderful news...
the calming effect of INA.
i agree.
Giada also.....
i really miss the old martha stewart show from before her time in the clink as well. I LOVED that show. it was like a meditation for me.
then hollywood ruined it ( and obviously she agreed, sadly) by making her have guests ect.....never the same.
yes..........martha is definitely my favorite when it comes to class...but ina does come a close second....i am glad she's back....................................................
I'm so excited...oops I crapped my pants.
Ina is WAY classier and much more stylish than Martha! I adore Ina and I'm not gay either.
I'm thrilled she will be back with some new stuff.
I was wondering does Ina ever check this site? I hope she does, She is most likely THE most adored person on FN...at least in my opinion!

I also noticed, like Hazel, that Big Daddy was not on this weekend. Any news on that, Jacob?
I read that he did get a second season. They probably are filmong or about to. Don't like Big Daddy. Sorry guy.
This is wonderful news -- I've so missed new episodes. But I did have to smirk a bit when I heard TR was gonna be the guest on the new show. I guess they could title the show: "Perfect Steak with a Side of TR"
:-)
please forgive my ignorance, but WHO on earth is TR??????????????
TR is Ina's boyfriend LOL. Don't tell her husband.
Bout' time! I can't wait for her book signing @ KOP next month heeeeeeyyyyy! And TR is crazy handsome. Met him briefly earlier this year @ Chelsea Market and he is a good looking guy and personable. He just HAD to mention that Ina just emailed him about a dinner invte for later that week. I smacked his damn palm pilot right out his hand and said, "take that, b***h!" HAHA!
Maybe LORD OF LIGHT AND CHARLES are the ones that are ignorant, not me!!! In the meantime....who is TR??????????
TR is gorgeous but he's gay so that won't do me any good. He models I believe. Wasn't there an underwear ad?
He's a guest on some of Ina's episodes.
"Perfect Steak with a Side of TR"
Good one. Let's serve it tartre(sp?)
why do some posts in comments run 2 or three times?? makes me crazy..... like Ina... when Jeffrey is away on a long business trip.
TR evidently worked with Ina at "Barefoot Contessa". He was on the episode where they fixed a meal for the folks that used to work at BC with them. He is also one of her bff and has dinner with her often. Another funny TR episode was when he had the visiting couple and they toured the Hamptons. Ina fixed them a sandwich to take and have for lunch and then fixed them dinner "to go". I thought it was kinda funny that they didn't get to eat with Ina, just had the food to go. At least Ina got cheese and wine out of the deal. LOL
J
thank you for the background on TR......................
Couldn't have said it better myself...there is lots of greatness in October :-)
I hate to sound uber-stalkerish, but I'm hoping at some point for a tour of the garden and faux kitchen Ina has created for the filming of her show. I love the glimpses I've gotten of each, but would really love more info on the beds themselves (What does Ina consider garden "musts"?) and I'd love to know what appliances and surfaces were used in her studio kitchen. It all looks fab, but I'm missing the details. (Yikes - I DO sound like a stalker... really, I'm just a gardener with a big kitchen and bigger family of eaters!) Anyway, how about an episode that focuses on the surroundings of the Contessa's kingdom???
You know why I love Ina so much...she's very lowkey & relaxed, not cutely & condescendingly yelling at us (ala Rachel), doesn't resort to wearing plunging necklines for that glamour factor (ala Giada), doesn't try to be all cutsie (ala Paula) and just shares her recipes in a classy, calm, loving way. She's #1 on the network as far as I'm concerned. My guess is they bring in the Dives guy and some others because they want to appeal to a younger demographic maybe, and that's fine... but trust me, I'm young and what appeals to me most when I turn on a network about food is not to see hip glamour, but to see real people preparing beautiful, creative recipes. Ina is a class act and Food Network is doing well to give her new shows. I just hope they don't make her spend too much time with the interviews of her guests. I mean we all love her regular show that's mostly with her being on camera in her relaxing style preparing the foods...and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I for one will program my DVR to not miss a single episode. :)
to:peachy girl...i agree....are u INA??????
to:peachy girl...i agree....are u INA??????
Hahahahahaha! Hi Anonymous! Nope, I'm not Ina but I see why you think I could be. Guess I was a little heavy on the praise. I don't know, she's just so nice and down to earth and that appeals to me. She's actually the REAL gourmet next door as far as I'm concerned. She's knowledgeable but isn't afraid to share the semi fancy stuff in a simple way so even novices in the kitchen like I am don't feel intimidated. By the way, now that I think of it, can anyone tell me what happened to the real Gourmet Next Door show? I know it's not on anymore but I’m just wondering why. Was it due to low ratings or maybe she wanted to be home more? I just never heard. Thanks. P.S. Go Ina! Can't wait for her new show tomorrow! And again, I’m really not Ina! :)
the "gourmet next door" according to rumor.....resigned after six episodes and, last i heard, was in paris!!!!! she apparently coud not deal with the food network executives.....can you blame her???
Wow, is that right?! Hard to imagine but really interesting! I really liked her, but I guess we each have to do what we think is best in life. As much as we all support the Food Network when we get into the competition shows each time, I kind of wish they'd do a better job of letting us know the status of things like that. I never even knew for sure when Gourmet Next Door was on...and I, like the other poster here, don't actually know for sure what the heck happened to Big Daddy. Maybe I just missed the announcements but it would be a nice gesture to us foodie viewers out here to at least keep us informed. And then there was that deal with the Dinner Impossible guy...that he was less than truthful in his resume when he came onboard and it was discovered later. That lead to the demise of his show and then came his replacement. Ah well, I whine too much sometimes. I love the Food Network and trust me, it's been an especially great diversion from the horrific financial and political fronts of late! By the way, since every time I turned it on, it seemed like Emeril was on...twice a night and an hour each time, talk about overkill...I wised up and just started setting my DVR to pick up my favorite shows: Barefoot Contessa, Semi Homemade and any show Bobby Flay is on. Fabulous!
good morning peachy girl.....i agree with everything you have to say....but have a real hard time with bobby flay.....he is my emeril......as for BIG DADDY...he will be back in january with 13 new episodes and i am happy about that....i particularly enjoyed his recipe for carrot slaw and believe he puts paula dean and the neeley's shows to shame, ...in the meantime, i, too am looking forward to ina's new season starting today...i know her fans won't be disappointed........
Hi Anonymous! Thanks for letting me know when Big Daddy is going to be on. At this point, I can't even remember what foods he specializes in...but I remember what a genuinely nice person he was. And you know what, these days with all the stuff that's going on this crazy world and all the hateful political articles & TV commentaries, "nice" goes a long way with me! I'll be sure to tune in Big Daddy in January. In the meantime, I watched Ina's first new show on Saturday and really liked it. I can't say it bowled me over but she was her usual, wonderful self with no pretentiousness or condescending cutsie crap, presenting the basics with a little added pizazz. And again, since I'm not very good in the kitchen, I need really basic recipes and I notice she gives little tips along the way that I find very helpful. And yeah, that T.R. is totally cute...kinda wish he wasn't gay! Ha! By the way, I read the other day that Ina's husband used to work in D.C. as Ina did...I guess that's how they met...and that, get this, he spent several years as the dean of the Yale school of...something. Ha! I think it was school of business administration but I need to go double check that. But my point in bringing this up is that here these two sweet people have every reason to flaunt the fact that they are rich, very intelligent and been in very high places...and they don't do any of that. They just come across as this loving couple who enjoys hanging out together over good meals and we get to see that part of their lives. Ok, I'll stop this admiration society for Ina & Jeffrey now before somebody yells at me! Ha! I'd be interested in others' favorite shows on the Food Network and why they're your favorite if you get a chance. Thanks a bunch!
hi peachy girl...........it's a beautiful tuesday morning and to refresh your memory, big dadddy, in my humble opinion, is somewhere in between paula dean and the neeley's, with some bobby flay thrown in, because he luvs to grill.....he uses excellent seasonings but does not choose expensive cuts of meats, fowl or fish but just goes for the flavor we find in less expensive fare...........he cooks in huge quantities, so one must pare down his recipes if you have a small family....anyway why are we talking about him on ina's blog????...oh well...i missed her premiere show on saturday....is TR her florist??
Hi Anonymous. It's been beautiful here in Kansas City as well, I love autumn! Hey, I'm not sure what TR does but I don't think he does flowers. That's her friend, Michael, the one who wears the bright pink sweaters...he and his partner (who you don't ever see) has Bridgehampton Florist Shop. Anyway, I'm wondering as well just what TR does for a living...I thought I read it somewhere but I can't recall. I liked the Halloween show that appeared here today...I'm writing her recipe down for the chocolate cake with orange icing. For whatever reason, first thing in the show when she tells us what she's about to prepare, even if it's nothing I'm interested in (rarely), I find myself still watching just because it's so relaxing! I'm anxious to see her next "new" show on Saturday, "Back to the Basics." I guess it's just on the weekends. I need some really good basic recipes so I think I'll learn a lot from her. One thing that always puzzles me a bit is when she says something like, "1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, REALLY GOOD vanilla extract." I buy what's on the shelf at the grocery store...where do you get "really good" vanilla? She's said that about other ingredients as well...does it mean we need to find a gourmet type store and is there really a big difference if I just use the regular stuff? Thanks.
i believe all basic recipes can be changed or augmented with the quality of the ingredients you use...the more natural their contents, the more flavor they imbibe....hence more delicious the recipe tastes....just check your labels...............tal to you soon..........................
hi peachy girl...i forgot to ask you the other day what you think of martha stewart....i think she has SOME class, considering HER background, as opposed to ina's...don't you??????????
Hi Anonymous,
I love Martha Stewart too. I think she used to at least appear to be a little haughty but a stretch in the slammer brought her down a couple of notches. Ha. Actually, I'm guessing that it probably helped her appreciate her real life and real friends a little more. But yeah, I think Ina is every bit as classy as Martha...she just doesn't act quite as lofty...much more down to earth and friendly and that's why if I had to choose to hang out with one or the other, I would choose Ina. But then, Martha sure has a lot of ideas and knowledge that she shares beyond cooking that I appreciate a lot as well. So bottom line, pretty much a toss up. :)
i. love. ina.
y?????????
Hi Anonymous. Oops, I guess I forgot to type in my name when I answered your question above about comparing Martha to Ina. Anyway, they both have sooooo much to offer. I miss Martha though, she's now on some other network that's not included in my cable package...fine living network, so I guess I'll be sticking to Ina's recipes from now on along with my other favorites on The Food Network! :)
I've seen TR on a couple of commercials. One is a car commercial and he rappels down from a helicopter to the roof of a parking garage looking cool and hip. Very handsome.
In reference to TR,
I'm Sorry, but just what is attractive or "hot" about a gay man in his 50's who trying to look and act like an obnoxious, spoiled twenty-something? I'm gay and find myself horridly turned off by this type. Act your age already and stop trying be a kid. And he never has anything intelligent to say. Everything that comes out of his mouth seems so dismissive, smug and downright condescending but I guess it's a perfect match for Ina and the rest of her company.
God I hate that show.
good morning "i hate snobs"...it's a beautiful day and i am so sorry you feel this way....maybe you shouldn't watch the show...gay people have to eat too and i suspect TR loves ina for her great food..........
good morning "peachy girl"...hope all is well in kansas city...it's perfect here...ina made a mean chicken today...hope you enjoy her show and take care..........p.s. do you think she has a MY SPACE????
H Anonymous. That's a very good question, I don't know if Ina has a My Space page or not...but first chance I get, I'll research it. Btw, somehow along the way, I bumped into House Beautiful's website that showcases Ina's beautiful new barn! She wanted it built so she would have a place for all the filming activity of her show besides her actual home and I'm sure it does fulfill all her needs but I swear, I would be more than happy to have a house like that to actually live in! Ha! Anyway, if you have any interest, here's the website. Might have to copy/paste it into your browser if it doesn't take you there when you click on it. http://www.housebeautiful.com/decorating/ina-garten-barn-1108
Oops...again, I forgot to type in my name when I responded to you!
peachygirl
Ok. I really can't stand it when people say "if you don't like it, don't watch it". First of all, why should we ONLY expose ourselves to things we like? Oh I forgot - this ia America, one of the most narrow minded, ignorant countries on the planet (apart from the middle east). Although I may disagree with certain ideas, shows, characters, format, whatever, I still think it's important to expose myself to other points of view. This is how we become well rounded.
And as car as criticism goes, I, as a viewer, have EVERY RIGHT to criticize! After all, the personalities on TV and in the public eye in general, are working FOR ME. I pay their salary. I, as a viewer, am in part responsible for them being there in the first place. So you can darn well figure I am going to make sure that my "employees" are doing their job to my satisfaction.
I don't understand why these concepts are so far beyond the average person.
i agree with you 100% "I HATE SNOBS".....that is why i suggested that TR simply loves INA's good food....afterall, isn't that why she is the BAREFOOT CONTESSA??????????????who really cares about TR's sexual orientation?
INA certainly doesn't....i don't...all i care about are her delicious recipes...you're the only one with a problem with TR....i trust you are not jealous????????this site is not for anger....................have a nice day and remember YOU are far from the average person.....but you still have to eat just like TR........
OMG. This is "one of the most narrow minded, ignorant countries on the planet apart from the middle east" and you still choose to live here? Oh wait, now I get it...it's because it's also one of the few countries left where you can partake of the benefits but still say such horrific things and not get bumped off for it. This board is for discussing Ina and her wonderful show & recipes. Please feel free to stay and say whatever you want...you are very welcome here. But I for one would love to hear what you think about some of Ina's recipes or her new show. I'm learning a lot from her.
anonymous 2......i couldn't have said it better myself.....do you have a MY SPACE????????
Hi Anonymous. Actually I'm one of the regular posters here but I chose to remain anonymous and not use my usual posting name when I decided to answer that person in case there's a nasty response. No, I don't have a My Space...I'll work on it though. :)
anonymous 2....please do...u will have so much fun...i wish ina had one....i believe bobby flay does...and i'm hoping big daddy gets one also...only way to go....talk 2 u soon.........
good news....ina does indeed have a MY SPACE.....i am not sure it is actually her space though, as she has not checked in for a very long time....anyway i sent her a "friend request" just in case...i hope all is well in kansas city.....how is the weather there?????...it's freezing in arizona!!
hi peachygirl......did u see ina today?????as always, great show...
Yes, I saw the show today. I'm not much of a griller but I kind of file all her instructions away for future reference just in case. I don't think I'll be trying her "flat chicken" any time soon but I did like her salad idea...however, my favorite part was how she fixed the bread...so I think I'll just make the bread and skip the salad. Ha! Can't truthfully say it was a great show but at least she's trying new things and I always learn a lot from her no matter what she does. And besides, I really enjoy her relaxed style. No matter how complex her recipes are sometimes, she always makes me feel like I can do them too.
I'm not going to pretend as if I know these TV personalities and their personal lives b/c I don't (and neither do most people who seem to prattle as if they live next door..lol) BUT....am I the only one whose jaw aches when Giada talks or smiles. Seems like overkill. And she has 3 favorite phrases or sounds that I am getting sick of - #1 - the breathy "ahhhhhhhh" #2 - "right on top" and #3 - "just like that".
Oh! one more...the "secrets of a restaurant chef" gal (can't remember her name). Am I the only one that believe that she MUST be some gumba's sister like from the Sopranos whose big brother forced the Food Network into giving her a show. What producer in their right mind would give that slob a show??????????? NOTHING of hers is appetizing, especially watch her make it or dip her nasty fingers in it. Makes me nauseated!!!!
TR is an obnoxious, snobbish, stupid 16 yo-acting, 50 yo gay which loves to eat good, but cannot cook himself. I love Ina, but skip all the episodes with that self-loving jerk.
