Is Bobby Deen Being Blurred Out of Paula's Pic?
Back in November I posted a video of Bobby Deen being interviewed by Katie Lee Joel about his "perfect date." Bobby seemed agitated and uncomfortable during the segment, even saying that his idea of the perfect date would be, "[...] dinner, dessert, a glass of wine and she'd be gone... it'd be perfect."
There's been some speculation online as to whether Bobby prefers the shes or the hes. Lots of people (166 so far) have expressed their opinion, but no real evidence to prove either side has surfaced. I don't know him, so it's not really my place to say either way.
Then an anonymous commenter pointed out that in the Deen Family Vacation special a photo of what's rumored to be Bobby Deen and another man appears blurred out in the background.
I caught a re-airing of the special on Saturday and there is indeed a blurred photo behind Paula during her interview segments.
The photo to the right is of her other son Jamie and his wife. There's another photo to the right of that one that was shown in other shots that appeared to be Jamie and his wife on their wedding day.
The blurry photo does appear to be of two men, but I can't be sure one is Bobby. It's likely she'd have pictures of both her sons (and their significant other if there was one) in this area.
It seems odd that the editors would go to the trouble of blurring out a photo if there wasn't a truly significant reason to do so.
Did anyone else see it? What do you think?

I'd like to think the best. May be Bobby's boyfriend isn't out so the Deen family is trying to protect him.

Well, Well. Good timely post. Several female friends of mine think Bobby Deen is a total STUD and wonder why he isn't married like his brother. In the South, boys of this ilk usually get paired with a drop dead gorgeous trophy wife and live happily ever after. I guess this might explain why.
Maybe if the Deen's show was on Bravo, he would be allowed to come out.
I too saw the blurred photo. I believe it is Bobby and his friend Michael. If he is gay, then just come out and be yourself, the longer he hides it, the harder and more destroying it can be.
The way that they blurred the photo makes for more speculation. If Bobby is gay, is it Paula that doesn't want him to come out, is she ashamed of who he is? Has he had to present a lie in order to please the fans? All this blurred picture has done is create questions, it's time to tell the truth!
I saw it too. It appeared more than once and on the others you could really tell it is two men, I suspect too that it is Bobby and his friend Michael. The big question is, why did they blur it?
Well, I saw it too. My guess is that it IS his "best friend", Michael. Make your own determination as to the definition of "best friend".
Although, I did recently read on the IMBd.com website that Bobby has a "girlfriend" in Alabama that he is having a "long distance relationship" with (convenient that it's long distance?) Of course, that begs the question as to why he appeared on the Extra segment.
I agree that the longer he waits to come out the harder and more hurtful it will be, especially for any of his recent girlfriends.
It looks to me as a business decision to blur the photo. I would guess that much of her fan base wouldn't look too kindly on her pushing the "evil gay agenda."
As a consultant I tend to have a lot of short term assignments. I usually find it best to avoid the whole relationship status question. First its really none of their business and secondly people aren't as enlighten as we would like them to be. For longer term assignments - I usually throw a picture of my boyfriend on my desk and that clears things up quickly.
Interesting. I was watching an episode of "Paula's Party" this weekend (not sure when it was filmed), and a woman asked about Bobby. Paula responded kind of oddly -- I wish I could remember exactly what she said, but I just remember it being awkward.
Hmmm...as much as I agree that there is something about Bobby Deen, I do remember an episode of Paula's Party where Paula tried to set Bobby up with a date right on the show. If she knew he was gay, why even push the issue at all and make him sit down with some random young woman from the audience?
Alec had an interesting idea--maybe Bobby can have his own show on Bravo: Bobby's Party. It would be like Soul Train! :-Þ
Also, I believe sometimes faces and pictures may be blurred not out of some sense of privacy, but simply because the producers do not have a legal release permitting them to show the faces on-air. Maybe blurring out the faces is easier than trying to track them down and getting them to agree to having their faces shown in the background of a 5-second Chefography clip.
On the "Paula's Party" show where she set Bobby up with a girl, if you remember, Bobby was not pleased with her and Paula asked him if he was going to yell at her later! Also on a TV interview in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, the interviewer asked Bobby why he always has only boy parties, Bobby never answered the question. Now a blurred photo, makes one wonder!
If Bobby is indeed gay and chooses not to reveal his sexual preference that's one thing, but if it's being done because it might upset the fan base there is something that is not right about that.
First of all, it's not fair to the legion of female fans that have hopes of meeting him and becoming his next girlfriend.
Secondly, I think he underestimates his appeal. He even alluded to that in the piece that was on Extra when he said something about women only being interested in him so that they can meet his mother. Come on, Bobby, you have got to be kidding!! As a female fan, I can tell you that's just not true. And, even if he is gay, I would still think he's a TOTAL HUNK. Of course, I'm not from the southern bible belt.
As for Paula setting him up with a 'date' on her show - that could have been just for ratings - especially if she does not want her fans to know.
This is giving me one more reason to feel sad for Bobby Deen--I saw the episode (again) this weekend where Paula tricks him into making his own birthday dinner, and you just know she'd never pull that crap with Jamie. . .
I will continue to love Bobby Deen whatever his orientation is. I hope that his family feels the same way. And if he's staying under the radar to avoid alienating their fan base, what can we say? He's not the first; he won't be the last; I hope the financial rewards are worth the emotional cost.
The picture does look like two men. If he is gay who cares, he's still my favorite Deen son. Jamie is annoying. If Paula is trying to hide it from the world to make herself look better then that is sad, you should love your children no matter what. I thought she was cool with gays, she's had Carson Kressley on Paula's Party twice I believe.

It could just be a case where someone hasn't given a photo release to Food Network. It could be a male relative or something.
Whether or not Bobby is gay is really his business and if he wants to keep it private, that's his business too.
Although that comment from anonymous about him having a long distance relationship in Alabama reminds of that song Rod sings in Avenue Q about having a girlfriend in Canada.

If that show happened, we should both sign up and fight over him.
Both Bobby's friend, Mike, and his dad, Jimmy, have appeared on Paula's Party. And many of her relatives have appeared on her holiday specials and such so I can't see why they would not sign a release if needed.
Having said that, here are some excerpts from an interview Bobby did with wsav.com in August 2006:
**"Right now, Randi, I'm having a great deal of fun. I have great friends. My best friend in the world lives right next door to me.” Bobby continues. “We're out in the boat, fishing and we jump on the jet skis and we're running around being boys.” Bobby adds. "I don't think that the girl I'm going to meet and marry is going to be a Paula fan. It's not going to be somebody who's seen my mom on television and just wants to be Paula Deen's daughter in-law.”
**"I just haven't met the right person who's blew me away yet. And really, the way that I've looked at is I've just. Why am I still single? I don't ever want to be a bad father. I don't ever want to be a bad husband and I never want to get divorced." answers Bobby.
So maybe it comes down to: 1. He hasn't found the one that blew him away. 2. He's having the time of his life right now and likes things the way they are. 3. He's reluctant to enter into a marriage that ends up as difficult as his parents' was - and if you read Paula's memoirs, you know what I mean.
Maybe, we should all just stop speculating and let him enjoy his life and find happiness wherever and with whoever he can!
That interview was written over a year and a half ago,and in the interview he didn't really want to talk about dating but the interviewer would not stop asking. After this about of time, it seems that we should of heard about some girlfriend or two. I know he tends to be private but former girlfriends don't seem to say anything which makes me wonder. A man of his good looks, popularity and wealth would have opportunity for many dates and I believe some of the girls would have said something by now.
If he dates women, then why was he so uncomfortable in the extra interview? His idea of a perfect date also doesn't sound right for someone who dates a lot, in fact it was really weird (dinner, dessert, glass of wine, she'd be gone...it would be perfect), you would think he would make it at least with a movie or something. I wonder if how he appears (as to who he is) to his fans is beginning to catch up to him and making him very uncomfortable.
Ok these post make me mad yes i know if i don't like it i shouldn't read it but man some of ya'll are harsh I've meet Bobby and Bobby is one of the nicest guys in the world . But i don't think he is gay at all and don't you think if he were gay it would be out already? Somebody would have found something out by now. Man just leave the guy alone already
The question still remains, regardless of whether Bobby is straight or gay, why is the picture blurred? What are they trying to hide?
maybe its one of michael kids and they didn't want to be shown did anybody ever think of that? They only show michellce .. Like I said I think people need to leave him alone!!! He truly is a nice guy . Weather he is or isn't I don't care .

I don't think we will ever know the truth about Bobby Deen! He seems to be somewhat of a mystery and that's part of his appeal. The talking will continue, but who's to say he isn't enjoying it.
And I wouldn't put much stock in the whole "Keeping it under wraps because of the Southern fan base" thing - Atlanta & Savannah are incredibly gay-friendly as are most other major cities in the south. Hmmm...poor Bobby - the saga contiues!

I guess my question would be..If they did not want the picture to be in the shop, then why not just take it down and put it away. Or it they did not notice it until after shooting was done, could it not have been edited out?
I saw a lot of this episode, but where was Brooke while the guys and Michaels daughter were out playing?
Not only is the blurred picture weird, but Brooke seemed not to fit in. I didn't see any interaction with Brooke and Bobby, or even Paula. She disappeared after the first 20 minutes and never returned, not even for the final evening dinner.
As for Bobby, I wonder if Michael joined him on the trip?

Paula Deen is about as dysfunctional a person, let alone a mother you can find anywhere.
Don't let her mislead you. The woman is a witch that deserves disdain.
I don't believe that Bobby and Jamie had the best environment to grow up in, but they seem to have come through it becoming nice, generous, loving individuals.
If Bobby is indeed gay, I don't feel that coming out would lose any fans, in fact, I think the opposite would happen. Many would respect him for having the courage to be himself.
I always took Bobby's comment during that interview (about dinner, drinks...gone) to be very playboyish. It was the first time this married mother of two came to a staunch reality that 1) she'd never have Bobby D. LOL and 2) maybe he is that player type he can sometimes come off as being (that attitude) and not the sweetheart all us girls swoon over.
Anywhoot, I'm a GRITS, rasied strict Southern Baptist, now staunch atheist (I carry the banner for Richard Dawkins) so I guess I'm not the typical one to look to but I don't care if he's gay or not, if he wants to keep it secret or if he wants to get it on with a different guy every night for our viewing pleasure right on Bravo! (oops! did I just say all that???)
It would certainly ruin my high esteem of Paula is she wanted to keep such a thing "hush hush"... I adore that woman, as far as I'm concerned, SHE walks on water.
I think he's gay. I've thought it long before I read this post and learned some of this interesting information about these interviews and whatnot. The whole idea that he just hasn't found the right girl yet just doesn't hold water. It's the classic way gays get out of revealing themselves. Rock Hudson did it all the time.
And it might not be Paula or Bobby hiding the truth. I suspect it's Food Network. Think about it. How many gays do they ever show (other than all of Ina Garten's friends and a few Next Food Network Star contestants that clearly were never going to win)? I mean, Food network hardly even shows any ethnic groups. They want to appeal to the widest fan base possible and to do so, no one can be offended by anything.
Bobby may well be gay, but maybe this is just a case where the producers f'ed up and didn't get a release from the other person in the picture. Or they're both wearing PEPSI shirt. Not everything is a huge controversy.
If he is gay we would LOVE to have him on our team! I can only hope.
Heard that Bobby Deen really had a temper fit at the hotel in South Beach. Yelling and screaming along with banging the wall and slamming doors around 2am in the morning. I wonder if someone asked him if he was gay?

This morning, April 26 on Paula's show she said, "I not only have two sons to feed, I also have a daughter (Jamie's wife), ANOTHER SON (???), and grandchildren to feed.

I hate to admit it; but I too have wondered about his orientation. Paula made a comment during the show where Bubba's wedding was featured and said something like this is her family's last wedding.... Did anyone see that too?
Some people just aren't into dating and don't have a desire to get married or have children. Just because Bobby is close to 40 and isn't married or open about his personal life doen't necessarily mean he is gay.
Unless yoiu know Bobby Deen personally, I believe that you shouldn't speak for him.

I seen the rerun of the show last night..since it is blurred out how does anyone know it is Bobby for sure? Also if you look close the person to the left looks like a female in a lower cut shirt..please. Some people apparently have no life. If you look really close it looks like a female in the picture with the male so if someone don't give the rights to be shown then they blurr them out. I was born and raised 30 minutes south of their hometown of Albany, GA, and was also born and raised strict Southern Baptist. I am from the southern bible-belt, as it was referred to in an earlier post, and I don't care about the man's orientation. I don't know many people who do or even many that would! He's a good-looking man who loves his family and seems pretty devoted to, not only his family, but also his business. Good for him! Whether or not he's gay, those facts won't change and they are what's most important. I am still a fan, God love him....
I'm a single mom who has never been married who is not dating anyone right now and I am not gay; I just haven't found someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. Perhaps Bobby hasn't found the right person either or maybe he is enjoying his bachelor status. It's sad that people feel the need to speculate about someone they do not know. As for the photo, if you look closely at it, the person in the left is a woman. Perhaps the people in the photo are from Michael's family and are blocked out b/c the network did not get their permission to be on TV. It's very rude to speculate about someone without knowing them. How would you feel if someone did that to you?

Ok, I met Bobby Deen in Miami during the Food & Wine Festival in 08. He's not gay! He asked me out for a drink & gave me his number! As a matter of fact, I just saw him again the other day for this years Food & Wine Festival. He is just a nice guy who's private. He does however seem to be drinking a great deal. I still have his number but don't call him since I'm in a serious relationship myself. You all need not worry, he's definately not GAY! I know. ;-)

Well, if I had to stand on stage with my mother while she told an embarassing story like defecating in her own driveway, I might be drinking a great deal, too.
I personally wish Bobby was gay (!) -- but, the blurred photo most likely has a completely different reason: If the person in the photo -- friend, boyfriend or otherwise -- hasn't signed a release, the producers won't want to show it on the air! Keep a close eye on all of your favorite "reality" (non-scripted) shows, and you'll see blurred out people all over the place!

Don't you think it's strange how he gave her his number but she didn't mentioned if he asked for her's. If he liked her enough to give his number, would he not be also calling her too. Jamie wasn't in South Beach, he was home with his family.
My best friend and I went to Lady and Sons a couple years ago; Bobby and Jamie were in a room meeting people, signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. We spoke with both of them for a few minutes, had items autographed and they posed for photos with us. They are both very personable and totally down to earth. Not for a second did I get a feeling that Bobby was gay...wouldn't change my opinion about him one bit if he was but I sense that he just hasn't found the right gal yet. Both of the Deen brothers are total hunks in person. My best friend and I have been happily
married to our husbands for 19 years but walking back to our hotel we were like a couple of teenagers- giggling hysterically, like we had just met a couple

It's amazing how many people have knowledge from "someone in the know" that Bobby is gay, and there are as many that have knowledge from "someone in the know" that he's straight. Will only know the truth if or when he marries, let's just hope it's for the right reason!!

Whether Bobby Deen is gay or straight is surely secondary to the Oedipal thing he has with his mother -- it's SOOOO painful to watch Paula's relentless emasculation of her youngest whenever they are onscreen together. As the dutiful son, Bobby is studiously respectful and doting, but I get worried whenever he gets close to a knife!!! Rest assured, Bobby Deen won't have a relationship of ANY sort until Paula says so -- her compulsion to control her "baby" is certainly the worst of her. Paula, let him go! Let him possess his own power. He needs that as a man. Ask any adult son.

Barbie, even if you have been with Bobby, and I doubt you have, you would not know if he is in the closet and on the DL. There are LOTS of men on the DL whose wives have no idea. I am not one of them. I don't agree with men who lie about it to their wives, but I do understand why some do it.

I was watching Paula's Home Cooking just now, and Michael Groover and Paula were talking about his son Anthony who works on a boat and she said something about someone named Daniel being on the boat too. She said Anthony would call her all the time asking how to make so and so for him and Daniel. So my guess is that the blurred out photo is Anthony and Daniel. And the photo next to it is probably her step daughter michelle and her husband/boyfriend (not sure if she's married...I haven't looked her up before lol)

I tried to find that episode on line but I couldn't. She's making okra hoecakes and ox tails for michael b/c he has to leave for work. Anyone have any luck finding it?
In their new book, Bobby thanks someone (a trainer, I think) for "making him a better man." The "trainer" cover is something well known in Hollywood as a euphemism for "lover" ("business associate" is another). But as someone else commented her, it's a sad, scary and, yes, somewhat disgusting thing if Paula has to conspire to keep her son in the closet for fear of alienating her fan base. Who wants a fan base full of small-minded, prejudiced, hate-and-fear-filled "fans," anyway? They're the ones who are disgusting, not her son and his possible boyfriend. She should be as proud of them as she is of Jamie and his family.
Paula Deen would not be ashamed of her son coming out of the closet. If anyone saw the the Kathy Griffin episode with Paula on it you would know that. Paula has a flamboyantly, and awesome gay assistant. She is also friends with Rosie O'Donnell. I doubt she would care if Bobby was gay.
I know him personally. He is def not gay. Neither is his trainer who I also happen to know.

I knew Bobby was gay when I saw a photo of his "bachelor pad" in one of Paula's first magazines and he had a book by Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley on his coffee table. Not something the typical straight, southern male would be caught dead having in his apartment.

After all this speculation I've read dating back two years, wasn't Bobby on the show with his girlfriend? He looked very attentive to her and they were very connected. It's the one where they were some kind of dessert. Paula gave her a big kiss so I can tell she's part of the fam. I wondered about Bobby a couple of years ago but didn't give it much thought. Who cares? I love their family.
Bobbie Deen has been dating Katy Mixon, the ditsy sister on Mike & Molly since 2009. I saw them both on an episode of Paula's Best Dishes this afternoon.

Yes he is gay, I know this for a fact because I saw him and his boyfriend and their friends at Ambush, a gay bar in Virginia Beach and they were dancing and kissing.
Gay does not automatically equal "harsh," "wrong" or "shameful." Gay is gay, just as brown eyes are brown eyes, left-handedness is left-handedness, and natural stupidity is natural stupidity. If Deen is gay (and I think he is) HE'S GAY. He's still the same person he ever was: funny, irreverent, curious, a fine businessman, a good son to his mother and a really attractive guy. You people all make it sound as if it's an insult to be considered gay. It's what's wrong with some parts of this country, and probably why poor Paula has to shield her son from the idiocy, bigotry and narrow-mindedness of a large part of her fan base. A pity.

It occurred to me that Bobby's partner might be of another race. While common across the country -- might be tough in the deep South (I, too, come from the South). While Paula might be comfortable with a gay son -- the family might not be ready to cross the bi-racial couple bridge.
If he is gay, that is his personal business and he doesn't have to share it with the entire world if he doesn't want to. There are some gay celebrities that don't talk much about their sexuality and there are some that come out in the open about it.
Did anyone notice how uncomfortable he was when Kathy Griffen went to Paula's resturant and the drag queen impersonating Paula showed up? I know many straight laced gay men who are VERY uncomfortable with drag queens. When I was in the closet any mention of anything gay related made me VERY nervous and anxious to change the subject or get the hell outta wherever I was.
I just watched the episode of Paula Deen's where Bobby and his girlfriend Katy Mixon were on the show...he is definitely NOT gay from what I can see. They seem so much in love and he does not and never showed any signs of being gay as far I can see. Some people just like to spread rumors and actually believe them themselves.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am sick of Bobby and his slutty mother. The way they have to constantly tell each other they love each other and steal kisses on cam makes me want to puke. What if he just prefers keeping his personal life private, a difficult task when in the public eye. If you were avid watcher's of Paula Deen's show you would have seen that Katy Mixon has appeared on the show with Bobby as his girlfriend a couple times and they were very sweet and affectionate with each other, also a picture of her sits on the shelf of his kitchen on his new show. Why does everyone think that being in the public eye means you can no longer have any part of your life that remains "just your own"!
Did anyone see the cooking show with his trainer as the guest? His being gay had never occurred to me before then.

I have been watching Bobby's new show. The boy is gay. Notice who he has as guests on his show. Really buff attractive gay men that most people don't know are gay. But gay men know it. But you are correct it does not matter to me other than he will bring more attention to the gay community. WE are everywhere even though some wish we were not.
