My Response to Lisa Garza

Dear Lisa,

Thanks for stopping by. I can tell by reading your comment that you're proud of your accomplishments and are honestly hurt by people writing things about you that you know to be untrue.

And while I understand the natural desire to defend yourself, please know that by attempting to do so you've broken a cardinal rule for reality show contestants: thou shall not try and defend oneself to viewers who don't care to listen or don't understand it's just a TV show.

Some people just think what they want to think and nothing you do can change that. They like being able to categorize the contestants into easily definable characters: hunk, goofy guy, smartie, hyper blond girl, bitch, and so on.

On the other hand, a good majority of us are hoping to see a different side of you than what came out in the first episode. Oftentimes, that's not up to you at all--it's the editors' decision.

If someone bases their hatred of you simply on that edited TV version they saw on episode 1, then there's really no point in trying to reason with them. They don't want to hear it and anything you do will most likely bring about more criticism.

Saying that the "only reason" you did the show was "[...] to use the attention and possible celeb status to [...] feed the homeless, care for impoverished children and make a damn difference in this shitty ass selfish world" makes you sound a bit grandiose. Despite being highly honorable causes, no one's gonna buy that a six episode deal with Food Network will cure world hunger. I understand your argument, but no viewer caught that from watching episode 1 (again, not necessarily your fault).

Perhaps you weren't keen to the fact that you'd get cast in the "bitch" character on the show. One of the reasons they put you on was because they knew people would be talking about you. And lucky for you, the bitch character usually stays on the show for quite a while.

So it really shouldn't come as a surprise that some people are not liking you at this point. That's how the editors framed your character.

But I'm open to discovering more. I'll contact FN and set up an interview soon. Maybe that will change a few minds.

'til then... good luck!

Give her a bit of credit for wanting to fight back. Shows she has spunk. Not too sure if I buy all that stuff about community and the homeless(or hoeless), but hey we all need some platform to build upon.

I do believe she has apprenticed under the executive chef and as she married the guy, probably paid her dues. Maybe another reason she desparately wants to get away from the business.

Interesting. I just read Jacob's two original posts and the full line of blogger responses to which Lisa so objected. Apart from several complaints about her intellectually obscure "3 C's," no one really attacked her and no one called her a "diva" - except Lisa herself, with obvious pride. I suspect her real bee, if she has one, is with the FN film editors rather than the blog but a careful reread of these exchanges reveals more self-promotion than outrage.

I wonder about the timing of all of this. If Giada was six months pregnant for the first show, isn't the series pretty much already in the can, except for choosing a winner? (And that may be a foregone conclusion as well?) And isn't it a pretty good bet that Lisa knows whether or not she's in the final two (but we don't)? And if she is, why would she risk antagonizing FN and the viewers with this kind of attack? It's more likely that she isn't, and wants to extend her 15 minutes of fame...

Bob Tuschman revealed in his interview with me that, yes, the winner was already chosen and that the finalist's show will debut the weekend immediately following the finale. I would assume that whoever won has already taped his/her six episodes.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Lisa knows who the winner is, if she didn't happen to be in the bottom 2.

but I have a feeling they taped a final episode with all the finalists when the winner was revealed. Hmm...

Well, to be fair, I'll concede perhaps it was mostly editing that made her appear the way she did. It would be awful to be scrutinized like that but then again, each contestant knew to expect that. Perhaps she is simply misunderstood so I'll keep that in mind as I watch .But really, is it plausible it's all in clever editing and that note one iota lies in her actual behavior?

I can tell you that her response was not only replete with spelling errors, but only surpassed by attitude and a hearty helping of self-importance. I say you should boycott her "bob" from now on.

as lisa's sister, i know a good deal more about her than any of the people posting here. honestly, i love the vulcan references, i think its all in good fun for the most part, and i agree that most of the comments shouldnt be worth entertaining because they are from people whose only exposure to her is 5-10 minutes of edited t.v. face time, but i would venture to say that most people would want to have a say in how people perceive them, even more so when "reality t.v." distorts your true self.in reference to the title "the diva from dallas" that's been bestowed upon her, i dont think its the fact that shes being called a diva that upsets her (i think all girls/women like to diva-it-up sometimes) i think its the fact that no one can seem to believe that all she wants to do is help people. she wont embrace the diva/bitch typecast that shes been given, even if it means 10 more minutes of fame, because its not who she is. i tried to tell her thats not what anyone wants to hear about, but she insists that people need to know so that she can find the support she needs to bring her dreams of helping others to fruition. obviously no one can singlehandedly end world hunger, but does that mean that no one should try to help those in need within their own community? or even on a larger scale? i admit its a bit hard to believe in any true form of altruism these days, but she'll walk the walk and you'll be amazed at what one person can do for others. its hard to read her response and not see some kind of grandiose notions and self-importance, but when did people lose the idea of dreaming big? from elementary school forward we are taught of average people who go on to be great leaders and humanitarians, and told that one person CAN make a difference. it's sad when we get into the "real world" and stop believing that we have the power to do anything to make a change. give her the time and id bet all i have that she won't disappoint.

it's probably easy to dismiss this as the "heartfelt plea from the little sister for america to love lisa" (smirking), but the woman is 12 years older than me; we didnt grow up together,so i know her as a person and friend, not just a sister. it's hard even for me to listen to these big "saving the orphans and the world" plans, but mostly just because it makes me realize how selfish people can be, including myself. it's sad that people dont make the effort to help each other, and that we put down the people who want to make a change.

and now you can rip my post to shreds :) haha

I'm more confused about Lisa after reading Paige's post than before. Who bestowed title of "Diva" on Lisa? Also, how is she fighting embracing this bestowed title? Unless she meant to come off as sarcastic, she seems to flaunt and embrace that title since I don't recall other posters calling her that.

They crowned her Diva on the show, if you were watching??? Kevin very dramatically announces she is "The Diva od Dallas", which means they edited it that way on purpose, she is the only one they have people talking smack about, all men, if she"s such a b****, why aren't the gals talking smack?? If she were a hot 30 something, in it, to win it, man, she wouldn't be slammed, she'd be the fav, If I remember correctly, Jag said he wasn't there to make friends from day one, he would've won if he wouldn't have lied, also find it interesting that her salmon is the only dish we never hear about?? If your gonna be called Diva B****, what else can you do but embrace it, she's getting blogged all over the net, somebody has to spice things up and it ain't the real Diva of the show, the"spice Queen" or the rest of the raw foods movement they have going so far.
