Emeril Lagasse To Guest Judge Top Chef Finale

Emeril Lagasse isn't letting his nearly complete absence on Food Network get him down. He's got a new show on the Planet Green cable network, got $50 million in spending money from Martha Stewart, and still has episodes of his classic Food Network show Emeril Live airing on sister network Fine Living.

And now he's going to Bravo!

Lagasse will be the guest judge on the final episodes of Top Chef: New York, set to air on Feb. 18 and 25. Bravo says a "shocking twist" will narrow the four down to three on the 18th, with the winner being revealed on the 25th.

Also, the supersized finale was filmed in Emeril's hood of New Orleans.
"In Louisiana, we have an amazing selection of local ingredients: andouille sausage, frog legs, turtle, catfish and rabbit. I was interested in seeing if the chefs would venture out and really try to explore our local flavors and culture. The challenge for some was finding a balance between the bold spices we love and their own personal style. All I can say is that you'll definitely want to go back for seconds for some of their final dishes!"

************

I've been a bad Top Chef viewer this season (yes, I do watch other networks), so I'll have to catch up before the 18th. I'm sure Bravo will have about 7 mini-marathons before then to help me.

I'm sorry but I miss Emeril on the FN - Everytime I see him on Martha's show.. I cringe -- it's like she has put his spirit and his balls sealed in a mason jar. That old hag...

I really think Top Chef suffers this year due to Ted Allen's absence. This Brit nitwit they brought in to replace him is just there to start a ruckus. What an asswipe.

I am not sure what is up with some judges on food shows or competitions. Some of them turn into total twatwaffles when they don the judges cap. Colicchio has turned up the douche factor bigtime this year.I'd love to cuff him good.
I am so freakin sick of hearing " someone is going to be sent home tonight". I need to watch more PBS.

I dunno about you all, but it really seems that the Top Chef contestants just way suck this season. I think Colicchio sees that, and is getting pretty frustrated with their un-inspiring performances.

Awesoem that Emeril will be there to close out the season. He's iconic. Right on.

Agreed about the new "Top Chef" judge. He clearly knows his stuff, but the focus has been on what crazy! outrageous! thing he's going to say next. They're trying too hard and it shows.

They are suffering from the absence of Ted Allen, who is being wasted on "Chopped" on FN, and Gail Simmons.

Agreed about Colicchio being extra cranky and pissy this season, but yeah, I think it's because he can see the talent level just isn't there.

Stefan is easily top-three, unless he completely falls apart. He may be a jerk but he is an excellent all-around chef, whereas most of the others are good, or just okay, in narrowly focused ways.

P.S. Speaking of "Chopped," as much as I like our Ted, it's not all that different from "Food Network Challenge" or "Ultimate Recipe Showdown" or "Iron Chef America":

* Each has a small number of competitors
* Each has a roving host
* Each has a ticking clock
* Each has three judges (one of them cranky) huddling over a table nearby passing judgment.
* Three of four have mystery ingredients/themes

The Ted that I kinda liked on Top Chef is different from the cardboard cutout Ted that works on his two Food Network shows.

I miss Gail, I'm not buying the Brit's schtick.

"Top Chef" sucked this year even before the new judge arrived. He doesn't help, though -- he utters a pre-scripted "quip" and that's about it. He's useless.

They just have a really crappy collection of cooks. You knew you were in trouble when they started out with a kid that was still in culinary school. That's the best they could do? They also had on a guy named Daniel who clearly had no idea what the hell he was doing, but he spoke with a mushy-mouthed "New York accent" and said a bunch of crazy stuff, so he got on. It's obvious they cast this year with personality first and cooking chops second. Which is a shame, because the reason everyone loves "Top Chef" is that it focuses on food.

Stefan looks like the clear winner right now, but I wouldn't count out Leah, who's very insecure but a good cook.

PADMA BLOWS. Cannot STAND her vocal deliveries...she sounds like an overactive 3 year old at a sugar party.....totally annoying. why can't she speak like a mature woman??
she sounds like she is ready to pee her pants all the time....

ted allen still sucks.no matter what show they put him on.

emeril sold his soul to the devil and needs to go away with all his millions.....

i love fabio, stefan is a control freak, and the 2 lovebirds who were making out need to just GO AWAY.

Kind of wish Top Chef would move to Showtime, then Lean and Hosea would be doing the "wild thing" on camera. Well at least they are now "uncomfortable" with each other. One has to wonder what their SO's think about their little trysts.

Even though Emeril is out on FN, they know that he is a winner. They keep airing his shows. I know that if I hear he is going to be on a show somewhere I will watch it.

Stefan sure can cook. I think the smart guy this week was Fabio, he knew he was not good at the selected cuisine, and opted to be the front man, and did a great job at that. I think they sent the wrong one home this week, but I often think that. A pastry chef that totally fucks up and she gets to stay, come on.

It will be interesting to see Emeril on Top Chef. He always has to act so nice, it will be fun to see him have to be critical.

Yeah, Lord, Carla should have gone home. I like the idea that just because her "boss" didn't give her any real feedback on her desserts, it's an excuse to send out melted sorbet to the judges. Neither team had a working freezer. So what do you do -- make something that sucks, or figure out an alternative like Stefan did? Any cook willing to send out something they know is bad -- and then say it was okay because she "sent it with love" -- should have been sent packing.

I miss Emeril too. I still tune in from time to time weeknights at 8 he's on the FLN. I'm so excited he will be a guest judge for the finale. I miss Bourdain and Gail (she was replaced by Toby due to her getting married). Not a fan of Toby. He compares food to movies and such. Leah has got to go!

The last elimination should have been based on individuals even though it was teams. It was a tie then. FOOD>DESSERT

Too bad Leah doesn't care about being Top Chef. It's a real shame.

Emeril Green is his newest show. Not as good as Emeril Live. It takes place in a Whole Foods somewhere in N.C.

For me Emeril was food network, when he left it went to the dogs, I feel for Alton, he is good but stuck in a rock and hard spot. I watched Top Chef since it onset, it really needs a booster and That is why they brought Emeril to the table. I do not see him being a mean judge but he will tell them politely either your food is good, or here is why it sucked. As for Ted he has gotten so boring, there is no excitement in his voice, his presentation, he is trying to be way to serious to authoritative, in his actions and words. At least when he was on Top Chef, he had a sense of humor about him. I really looking for Martha and Emeril to start their own TV network ?
