Anne Burrell's Set Gets Bluer, Less Granny-esque

Everyone's favorite Grover-sounding, platinum blonde sportin', delicious food cooking chef, Anne Burrell has one of the best new shows on Food Network. I looooooooved the first episode of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, as you know.

And while Anne came off like a natural right from the start, her set did need a few tweaks to really pop. For one, they got rid of most of the pieces that made it look like a granny's Greenwich Village apartment. Take a look:

Gone are the granny lamps and chandelier. The main wall behind Anne is now a brilliant blue instead of a dull pink. Things in general just seem to better match Anne's energetic, slightly zany style.

I kind of put my foot in my mouth when I talked to Anne about her set last Oct. at the NYC Wine and Food Fest. I mentioned how much I liked the new one compared to the old and how I was sure it wasn't her wanting it to look like a granny house. She said something like, "Well, it kind of was." She's into antiques and that style.

There's a nice balance now, though. When they shoot the little "den" area, you still see some antiquey looking pieces. I like it. It's almost... bipolar. Kinda like Anne? ;-)

UPDATE: The FN Dish just posted a new new pic of Anne's set, as she's back in the studio shooting new episodes. Looks like there are more changes. The pink walls are all gone.

Did Anne get to keep even one antique?

I kind of hate the blue/pink combo. It's like a nursery furniture showroom at Babies 'R Us.

Am I alone in thinking Anne is kinda... hot? I know, people will say she's "fat," blah, blah, blah. I find her quite attractive.

I think Anne is terrific. She has an edge like no other. I like her no bs attitude. It's refreshing.

I really didn't like the blue/pink combo. It looked weird in the background, like she was always in various stages of repainting and renovation.

I looooooooooove the show. One of the few I watch on FN.

Set design leaves something to the imagination. No on lives with a kitchen like either of the ones shown. Why try to pull that off?

I like Anne. She's got the chops to pull off the series and doesn't need to be molded like many of Gorden Elliot's people. I hate when the Talent talks to the food, dishes, salt shaker.

I love Anne and as an intermediate to advance cook, it is nice to see recipes with a little more umph to them.

What I don't like are the little saying she has olive oil and other items but not the end of the world.

Anon @ 11:54, I think she is beautiful. I also think she is a fun host who has really grown in the role, and whose food is FANTASTIC.

I think the new set is an improvement. Now if they could just get her to wear clothes that fit her properly!

I find her so cool, I love the way she talks to the food, and well I do the same thing. Her show is one of the few I now watch or DVR I have not missed an episode. As a chef she offers so much more to the home cook, than 90% of the home cooks on the network. I would not care what color her set is, or what is in the back ground, up till now I have been watching her cook to see if maybe I can pick up things that would normaly be missed. BEST DAMN SHOW THE NETWORK HAS COME OUT WITH the past year or so.

I love her. I watch her show all the time. Yea she is quirky but it is who she is and wow can she cook and teach us. Is she still a major chef? Or has has her FN gig taking up all her time... Anyone out there know?

I like her too, but between the hair and the wall color, yes, it's less 'granny-esque', but more burlesque! Please, tone it down! There should be a pole for dancing in the background. Periwinkle and mauve. So 80's. It's way too much for my HDTV to handle.

I think she is terrific and has a great show. What is appealing is how into the food she seems to be. I like how she makes dishes that the home cook could do or at least techniques that we can use.

I love this show! Guess I'm more into the food and recipes than decor of the kitchen because I never even noticed the set - how observant was that! She and Ina are my two faves on FN and I actually learn something and use it! I have cooked her bolognese sauce more than a few times since that first episode and my husband and friends rave about it.

Everything about this show is wrong. I appreciate the concept, but it should be shot documentary style on a set that looks like a restaurant kitchen. And she should wear a chef's uniform instead of squeezing herself sausage style into Rachel Ray's cast off wardrobe from two years ago. And that "Grover" voice makes me ill every time I hear it, which is about every 5 minutes. And what's with up with the handfuls of salt?

Anne does have certain something about her.

Actually one of the better shows FN have released in ions.

Her crediblity as a host is evident having attended a real recognized culinary school.

I love this show too. I hope it's not a bad sign that they will take it away.

OMG I want to meet her tell her to do a book signing or something. The heavy hand on the salt is for the FLAVOR! Heeeellllooo! She even said that it's a fact people why when you go out to eat and your food tastes so good cuz the heavy use of the salt brings out the flava! FLava flav!!!!! I don't care if she's half man, half woman, beast, what she wears, what her set looks like, she is the best right now on FN!!!!! AAaaaahhh!!!!! *crash! (jumps out the window from the excitement)

At the end of the day, she knows her stuff. I've tried some of her recipes and they turned out well. I backed off the salt amount, but I understand that real restaurant chefs do use that much salt.

I'm hooked. She'll stay on my DVR record list. Go Anne!

Hey Anon @ 4:08pm x's 3....no need to call her a bitch. I mean, she could be, but it's still not nice. And I just don't see her being one. She knows her way around the kitchen. My heart is all a flutter. aaaaahhhhhh

She's AWESOME. She did an appearance recently in her home town (I live in one nearby) and she did a demo for a fund-raiser. She even explained about the salt. Both that Kosher is MUCH larger than "regular" and her pinch is exactly 3/4 tsp. every time.

I used to work with her at centro vinoteca and can honestly say that this woman is a monster. She is the most vulgar, mean, petronizing person I have ever met. She made most of the women cry, the whole kitchen staff quit several times over, and yelled all the time. Not smart in an open kitchen ..... Some patrons would leave the restaurant saying they didn't appreciate the way she treated employees.....
Anne it's been two years now and I still have nasty memories. You are a bitch.
