Next Food Network Stars on Rachael Ray

I don't TiVo Rachael Ray's daytime talk show, so I completely missed the show this past Thursday where the final 6 contestants on The Next Food Network Star appeared. Thanks for the zero cross-promotion, guys!

Unlike past appearances on RayRay's show (this one happened much earlier in the contest), the contestants had to cook in pairs. That could be disastrous, as the judges love to call out anyone who appears to not be cooking/talking/engaging enough during this challenge. (Remember Lisa Garza's freak out about "being censored" last year?)

Soooo, watch the videos online and then see how the producers edit their demos to suit their story. ;-)

Also, I hope everyone (in the U.S., that is) has a great and restful Independence Day. Thanks for reading!

Boy, the RR show must have used a wide angle lens to get Shamu in that shot.

That was uncalled for...

Agree with 8:52. That's just downright mean. When did that poor whale at Sea World do to be compared to Debbie?!

Man, I'm auditioning for NFNS next year. Kickin' it @ Ina's and being on RR, that's sofaking cool! I have no real culinary skills but apparently a lot of these others that are picked don't either and still get to do cool stuff.

Shamu didn't do anything to deserve to be compared with Debbie. I just like the nickname.

Meh.
Rachel Ray, the NFNS Contestants and Larry, Moe & Curley? Sounds like a day in Hell. Or watching one.

I think it'll be really interesting to see how the show edits the demos as well. Someone already said that Teddy's speech on the Intreped was actually really nice in person, but had been edited to make him seem like a idiot. PS Michael was completely annoying on RR. If I heard "MMMMMM" one more time I was going to scream. That was like his audition to have a show filmed in front of a live studio audience and he still blew it. My guess is he'll be canned this week.

Wow. Just... wow. Are these really the best cooks they could find? Seeing them unedited pretty much confirms what we already knew: none of these people deserve their own show on the FN. Boy, is Mellisa fucking ANNOYING! Shut up, woman. Her energy level goes to the "man strapped with a ticking bomb to his chest" frenzy. Anne Burrell was dead-on when she said Mellisa would leave you feeling twitchy. Michael wasn't much better, but I guess it's hard to get a word in when your partner is jabbering like a crackhead. Debbie, Jeffrey and Jamika were all blah. Jamika let Jeffrey dominate. Jeffrey's food has become predictable and he's right on the edge of condescending to the audience. Katie, who's looked like a total failure on the show, came off rather well. That mac 'n' cheese they made sounds a bit gross, but Katie seemed comfortable in front of the camera. Based on a comfort level of dealing with an audience and a camera, Katie easily won this challenge.

This show is phony and predictable, a complete waste of time. It bores me like nothing on the FN ever has.

reading all this stuff really takes the edge off of NOT having cable tv anymore!! so i cannot watch this dreck.

Shamu, the one at Seaworld, tells better stories.

It's good too read how many want one trick pony to leave NFNS. I believe Shamu the Orca is far and above Debbie, he knows many tricks.

Sad that not just here ,but many of places (blogs)share the sentiment of who cares about the FN, and sad to say , the shamu comments make me LOL, and i do not apologize for it...

Wow you guys reeaallyy write or comment on a show that you seem to hate... why even bother watching if it's so "fixed" as you say...

8:25 AM. I totally agree with you.

I love watching it. I always watch it twice. I can't help it. I could also watch Top Chef marathons. I can't get enough.

Anon 8:35, just because a show is "fixed," doesn't mean it isn't entertaining to watch.

Like, I know how the Alien vs. Predator movies end ... but I still watch 'em. In fact, now that I think on it, TNFNS is really similar. Hmmm ... co-inky-dink?

5:58 - assuming you mean that Katie looks like a Predator, and Debbie looks like a Queen Alien is about to pop out of her stomach... then I agree!
