Robert Irvine Back for Another Season of Dinner: Impossible

It was announced this morning that professional resume embellisher Robert Irvine has begun production on a new season of Dinner: Impossible. The popular Food Network show originally premiered with Irvine, then swapped out Irvine for Michael Symon, and then swapped Irvine back in after ratings weren't so hot for the Iron Chef... or so I believe.


While it's never been my favorite show, Dinner: Impossible does have a big following, obviously. People apparently love Robert. It did always feel like it was Robert's show, even when Michael tried to come in and save the day.

It looks like Robert is pretty much back to his old self on the show. This funny video that Eat Me Daily has up kind of makes me want to watch the show again... but they I hear those awkward "I gotta figure this out!" voiceovers by Robert and I think otherwise.

Robert Irvine Coming BACK to Dinner: Impossible... What?!

I NEVER thought this would happen, but it did!

Production of six new episodes starring Robert Irvine will begin this month, reports the AP.

"Our audience has continued to demonstrate its interest in and support for Robert. He has taken responsibility and made a conscious effort to clear the air, rebuild the relationship with Food Network and apologize for the earlier inaccuracies," said Food Network spokeswoman Carrie Welch said in a written statement.


Guess this really means: Michael Symon was a ratings loser. Sorry Mike!

I personally didn't watch the show that much--didn't matter if it was a Robert of Symon episode. But from what you fans tell me, Michael Symon just wasn't cutting it.

New episodes starring Irvine will begin airing March 2009.

Michael Symon Not Getting Equal Attention on FN.com

The reviews are mixed on Michael Symon's performance on Dinner: Impossible. (I find that cackle of his kind of charming, actually). While he's got an impressive new logo treatment and minisite for DI on FoodNetwork.com, Michael's presence on the site for Iron Chef America continues to be unbalanced.

His picture was Photoshopped in behind Mario, but his name still doesn't appear in the page's title (on top) or in the "About the Show" section. What gives?!

I seem to remember some controversy in the blog world shortly after Michael won his spot as the next Iron Chef. Namely, his picture and name wasn't on the ICA site. Quickly, Food Network popped his picture in... then it was gone again... then it came back (does anyone remember this?).

Luckily, Michael Symon lets us know he recently did nine battles for ICA's upcoming season, so there's no reason to worry about his status.

Still... shouldn't Symon get equal credit online?

UPDATE: Food Network has since updated the site, crediting Michael Symon. Yay!

What Happened to 1-hour Dinner: Impossible?

Despite announcements by TV.com and Michael Symon himself, last night's sneak peek of Dinner: Impossible with new host Michael Symon was NOT one hour long.


So, as you know, after that whole Robert Irvine scandal, Marc Summers (Exec. Producer) hired Michael Symon to take over the show, which was to expand to a one-hour format. The new DI officially premieres on Aug. 20 at 10pm ET.

The info on the TV schedule and DI's own page on Food Network's website make it unclear if the show will eventually hit the 60-minute mark. Until then, guess we'll have to settle for a half hour.
